Judah-Garcia: Zab gets another crack at a title

judah2By Allan Fox: 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) will be fighting for another world title when he steps up and faces WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) next month on April 27th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Judah was recently knocked out by Amir Khan in a 5th round TKO in July of 2011, but Judah came back from that loss to defeat fringe 140 lb. contender Vernon Paris to be given another shot at a title.

With the light welterweight division having few recognizable names for casual boxing fans, Judah has kind of become what Evander Holyfield was to the heavyweight division in getting title shots without having to do a whole lot because he’s got a name that fans can recognize.

Judah vs. Garcia winner must face Matthysse next, says WBC

matthysse8By Dan Ambrose: It looks like WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) will finally have to face WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) if Garcia can get past his next title defense against Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) on April 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The World Boxing Council has ordered the Judah-Garcia winner to fight Matthysse in their next fight, according to fightnews.com. That’s probably not what Judah and Garcia wanted to hear because Matthysse is probably the most dangerous fighter in the 140 pound division right now, and he may be the #1 fighter at this weight.

Judah: Garcia’s having second thoughts after seeing Matthysse fight

judah2By Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) thinks WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) started getting cold feet about the idea of facing him on February 9th after seeing how devastating Lucas Matthysse looked this past weekend in destroying Mike Dallas Jr. by a 1st round knockout win. Judah beat Matthysse by a 12 round decision two years ago in a close fight.

Judah thinks an out of shape Garcia decided he wasn’t ready physically or mentally to fight Judah in February after seeing that fight. Garcia has decided to use a fake injury excuse about his ribs to buy more time to get in shape and to try and get ready for the fight, Judah believes.

Judah: Danny Garcia is a faker and a liar!

garcia34By Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah isn’t buying the excuse WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia made for not being able to fight him on February 9th. Garcia reportedly injured his ribs in a sparring session with DeMarcus Corley, and that’s why he can’t fight Judah until April 27th.

When Corley was asked about the injury in an interview from the Koncrete Jungle, Corley said it’s not Garcia’s ribs that are injured, it’s his right thumb. Corley said Garcia had went to the doctor for this problem. What’s unclear is why the thumb wasn’t mentioned as the reason for Garcia postponing the fight?

Malignaggi vs. Maidana possible for Judah-Garcia undercard on April 27th

maidana545By Dan Ambrose: A fight between WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) and former WBA light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (33-3, 30 KO’s) has been tentatively penciled in for the undercard of the Zab Judah vs. Danny Garcia fight card on April 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The Malignaggi-Maidana hasn’t been confirmed as of yet because there’s still a chance that Malignaggi might decide to defend his title against the World Boxing Association ordered #1 WBA challenger Diego Chavez or Malignaggi could still opt for a title-milking fight against the past his best 41-year-old Shane Mosley. Malignaggi sounded unsure when asked if he was still planning on fighting Mosley when asked last Saturday night by Showtime.

garcia56By Dan Ambrose: The previously scheduled February 9th fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia and Zab Judah has been moved to April 27th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Garcia, 24, badly injured his ribs sparring with the hard hitting DeMarcus Corley on January 19th, Rafael says, and Garcia has had problems breathing while working out ever since. Rather than letting the card go on without the main event fight between Judah and Garcia, Showtime has decided just to postpone the entire card until April 27th, at which time Garcia should be fully healed from his rib injury.

Danny Garcia fails to deny rumors he’s pulling out of Judah fight

garcia45By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia is rumored to be pulling out of his fight this Monday with 35-year-old Zab Judah, according to Steve Kim of maxboxing.com. With Judah skewering him in messages on twitter late last night, the only thing Garcia could offer up was this brief comment: “I’m ready for whoever!”

That doesn’t sound like a denial, does it? Boxing fans that were looking forward to the February 9th fight between Garcia and Judah are still hoping this is just a sick joke and that Garcia will choose to fight Judah as scheduled, but you have to wonder why Garcia didn’t confront the rumors head on last night when given the opportunity. Garcia’s usually vocal father, Angel Garcia, has been oddly quiet about the news of Garcia possibly pulling out of the fight.
