Judah: Roach did nothing as a fighter, he’s not a HOF trainer

YouTube video

By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Zab Judah was hopping mad at Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach because of a recent comment that Roach had made about Judah. When Roach was told that Mayweather had reportedly been getting the better of Judah in one of his sparring sessions, Roach made light of it, saying that Judah was an old fighter and that it didn’t matter.

Mayweather wasn’t knocked out by Judah, says Ellberbe

This so called incident has spread like wildfire after starting up somewhere on the internet. First Judah himself denied that it ever happened, and no Ellberbe is saying it’s not true.

“False…nothing like that. It never happened,” Ellerbe told Skysports.com when asked whether Judah had knocked Mayweather down during one of their sparring sessions. Zab is in camp. He’s helping with the preparations along with several other sparring partners.

Judah denies knocking out Mayweather in sparring

judah2By Chris Williams: For the past week there’s been a nasty rumor floating around about how former two division world champion Zab “Super” Judah (42-9, 29 KOs) supposedly knocked WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) out in a sparring session.

Mayweather hired the 37-year-old southpaw to get him ready for southpaw Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“@maven_boxing: @SUPERJUDAH any comment on the KO you delivered to @Floyd Mayweather recently?” (That’s Not True it never happen stop it).”

Jeff Mayweather: This isn’t the same old Floyd, he’s a beast!

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr totally dominated former two division world champion Zab Judah during their sparring session, says his trainer Jeff Mayweather. Judah and Mayweather sparred for three rounds in which all three minutes of each round were totally dominated by Mayweather.

It got so bad that Judah stopped throwing punches after the 2nd round, because he didn’t know what to do. Jeff says that Mayweather wound up giving Judah a beating during the session.

Judah: Mayweather doesn’t need to fight Maidana again

may101By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Zab Judah was impressed with the way that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) figured out Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s) and ended up out-boxing him this month in Mayweather’s 12 round decision win over the Argentinian fighter in Las Vegas, Nevada. Judah liked how Mayweather adapted to the furious attacks from Maidana, and then ended up picking him apart after four rounds of the fight. Judab believes that there’s no reason at all for Mayweather to fight Maidana again, because he has nothing more to prove.

“I think it’s [a Maidana-Mayweather rematch] not necessary. He [Mayweather] did enough,” Judah said. “He knows how to figure guys out and knows how to win. I think Mayweather broke him down excellently. His defense was sharp. He didn’t get hit with no crazy or silly stuff,” Judah said.

Judah and Lamont Peterson say no to Mauricio Herrera fight

herrera2By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-9, 29 KO’s) and IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (32-2-1, 16 KO’s) have reportedly said no to a fight against the recently beaten but very tough Mauricio Herrera (20-4, 7 KO’s), according to Steve Kim. It’s unclear why they turned down Herrera, but given how tough of a time he gave WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in their fight last March, it’s not surprising that they didn’t want anything to do with him.

Herrera lost to Danny Garcia by a 12 round majority decision, but a lot of boxing fans felt that he did more than enough to deserve a victory. Danny thinks he deserved an 8 rounds to 4 win over Herrera. But the fight that I saw, I had Herrera beating Garcia by a couple of rounds.

Zab Judah back in action in April

judah99By Allan Fox: Former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-9, 29 KO’s) will be back in the ring in late April, according to the Boxing Channel. Judah, 36, still doesn’t have an opponent yet for this date, but someone will be selected shortly. Judah is coming off of a disappointing 12 round decision loss to Paulie Malignaggi from last December in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah started out the fight well in dropping Malignaggi in the 2nd round. However, Judah stopped punching after the 3rd round and spent most of the fight doing nothing, and trying to get out of the way of Malignaggi’s shots. Late in the 12th round, Judah finally came alive when he went after Malignaggi in throwing a flurry of shots. However, the punches mostly missed, and Malignaggni openly taunted Judah for this late effort.

Malignaggi dominates Judah; Porter decisions Alexander; Lara defeats Trout

02 Judah vs Malignaggi IMG_4649(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: In a fight between two slightly past it fighters, Paulie Malignaggi (33-5, 7 KO’s) defeated 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-9, 29 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision tonight at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. The final judges scores were 116-111, 117-110, and 117-110. Judah knocked Malignaggi down in the in the 2nd round, and shortly after that Judah stopped throwing punches and let Malignaggi dominate the remainder of the fight.

Taking a page out of Miguel Cotto’s playbook, Malignaggi nailed Judah low in the 3rd round in what appeared to be a move to take the fight out of him. Cotto had done the same thing when he had been hurt by Judah in their fight many years ago, and it worked. Judah seemed to lose his aggression after getting hit low. We saw the same thing tonight, although Malignaggi did a lot more than hit Judah with low blows to get control.

Judah plans on sending Malignaggi into retirement tonight

09 Malignaggi and Judah face off IMG_0685(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) wants to beat Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) bad enough tonight to where he’ll give up the sport and focus on his job as a Showtime analyst full time. Judah is facing the 33-year-old Malignaggi tonight at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. An East coast match-up, with both guys coming from Brooklyn, and both popular in the area, and both guys have been better says career-wise.

Judah said “After I knock him out, then he’ll need to be a full-time commentator and grow old like Larry Merchant [the former HBO analyst] and retire like that, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

That would be an accomplishment if Judah can stop Malignaggi because it’s been two years since he was last stopped in an 11th round TKO defeat the hands of Amir Khan in 2011.
