Image: Yusaf Mack isn't as bad as he looked against FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: I don’t know really what happened with Yusaf Mack (31-5-2, 17 KO’s) in his loss to IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) last Saturday night in Nottingham, because Mack is a lot better than what he showed in that fight.

That wasn’t the true Mack that got mowed down in three quick rounds without even getting some hard licks in. Mack has never been like that before in any of his fights and he just didn’t look right. The way he was all dried out looking, it reminded me a lot of how WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson looked when he drained down to 168 to challenge WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward recently.

Image: Ward blabbering on twitter about Carl FrochBy Marcus Stewart: Reigning WBA and WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward has been going off on one on Twitter about Carl Froch saying things such as “Froch fans keep saying it wasn’t him in the ring the night we fought…then who was it…his twin brother??!!” and “Froch said he wasn’t himself when we fought, because he was HOME SICK.” Oh, do I detect some frustration from Ward? Bless, I mean I know the legendary Brit has made a comeback but it doesn’t mean “S.O.G” has to get jealous.

Andre Ward refuses to fight away from his comfort zone because he knows he will have a good chance of being exposed. He’s never gone into other fighters’ back yard and I really wonder how he’d cope against the Cobra in Nottingham. Personally I could see Ward melting under the pressure and in the process being caught with huge punches from Froch.

I’m not sure exactly why Froch changed the whole subject matter around because it was supposed to have been a question and answer period related to Froch’s 3rd round knockout win over Yusaf Mack last night, but Froch kind of went into a long revery about his loss to Ward instead. What a buzz kill Froch’s mention of Ward turned out to be.

Froch said “I lost the last fight with Andre Ward before I even stepped through the ropes, because mentally I wasn’t switched on. Physically I was drained. I was in Manhattan, sitting in New York a second time before Christmas.

Froch wins in three over Mack: who’s next?

By Gareth Rees: Carl Froch (30-2) defended his IBF Super-Middleweight title against Yusaf Mack (31-5) in supreme style by stopping Mack in three rounds. Mack went down in the first round following a right by Froch hitting Mack near the top of the head followed by a left uppercut, Froch then put Mack down again for the last time in the third following a sickening body shot.

Throughout the fight Froch stuck behind his jab looking for opportunities to attack Mack. After sending Mack down in the first, Froch kept to the game plan he and coach Rob McCracken had set, using his jab throughout the second round and ended the round with a flurry of punches that seemed to hurt Mack.

After Froch planted the brave – but limited – Mack on the canvas courtesy of two hard body shots in the 3rd, Hearn said “I don’t think there is one super middleweight, including Andre Ward, who can beat him [Froch] in Nottingham. We ant the big fighters next year, preferably in Nottingham.”

Mack hit the deck and couldn’t get back up tonight at the Nottingham Arena, in England. The fight was halted at 2:30 of the 3rd.

Mack was also knocked down in the 1st but that was more of a product of getting his feet tangled and then getting tapped on the side of the head as he was stumbling.

In other words, Ward isn’t interested in seeing Froch face a hand-picked opponent selected from the light heavyweight division rather than from the top rungs of the super middleweight division.

Commenting on his social media site on twitter Ward said “Honestly, really not interested in the fight. Looking forward to the HBO fights tonight!! I’m picking [Adrien] Broner and [Seth] Mitchell. They both should be good fights. Froch fans keep saying it wasn’t him in the ring the night we fought…then who was it…his twin brother??!! Froch Fans: Ride with your guy, but the things you say have to make since…ok??!! Froch said he wasn’t himself when we fought, because he was HOME SICK. Question: Why do I HAVE TO rematch Froch in the UK?”

Image: Froch obliterates Mack; Bellew dominates BolontiBy Jim Dower: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) came out on top tonight in stopping challenger Yusaf Mack (31-5-2, 17 KO’s) in the 3rd round in Nottingham, UK.

Froch hit Mack with three hard punches with two of them being debilitating body blows that sent Mack down on all fours on the canvas. He tried to throw a hard left hook just before collapsing on the canvas but Froch easily leaned back to avoid the shot.

Mack never showed any indication that wanted to get back up and the fight was then stopped at at the 2:30 mark.

Image: Froch: I'm going to defend my title in style against MackBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch expects that he’ll look good tonight in beating Yusaf Mack at the Nottingham Arena in front of 9000 screaming Brits. For Froch’s sake he better hope so because he has a lot riding on this fight. If he loses he can forget about fighting Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler.

Froch may still fight Lucian Bute in a rematch, because as Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently said that Froch is contractually obligated to face Bute again, but facing just Bute isn’t what Froch had in mind. He and his promoter Hearn want 2013 to be a big year of rematches for Froch.
