Victor Ortiz wants rematches against Maidana, Collazo and Lopez

ortiz1By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (30-5-2, 23 KOs) has seen his once promising career go downhill since his 4th round knockout loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2011.

Ortiz, still young at just 28, has fought only three times since the Mayweather fight, and has lost two of those three fights. Ortiz did win his last bout against Manuel Perez by a 3rd round stoppage, but Ortiz suffered a hand injury that fight that required surgery to repair the problem.

Will either Andre Berto or Victor Ortiz regain world titles?

ortiz32By James P Sexton: The 2011 Ring Magazine Fight of the Year took place in April and was a WBC World Welterweight Title bout between undefeated champion Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz. The fight got off to a great start with Berto going down in the opening round, and then Ortiz down in the second.

The fast pace was maintained throughout the fight and the sixth round was one to remember with both warriors touching the canvas. Despite a late point deduction for Ortiz, he walked away with the unanimous 12 round decision as well as Berto’s title.

Victor Ortiz expects to be a pound-for-pound world champion

ortiz1By Jim Dower: Former WBC 147 pound champion Victor Ortiz (29-5-2, 22 KOs) hopes to turn his sagging boxing career around this Saturday night in a 10 round bout against light welterweight Manuel Perez (22-10-1, 4 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ortiz is coming into this fight having lost his last three fights by knockout, and things obviously are looking bleak for him career-wise. However, Ortiz still believes he has the talent to become a world champion again in the near future, and he also thinks he’s going to become one of the pound-for-pound fighters.

Victor Ortiz faces Manuel Perez on December 13th in Las Vegas, Nevada

Ortiz gets between Khan and Alexander(Photo Credit: Craig Bennett/Hogan Photos) By Jim Dower: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-5-2, 22 KOs) will be fighting on December 13th against 30-year-old journeyman Manuel Perez (22-10-1, 4 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander fight on Showtime from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 27-year-old Ortiz’s career could really use a shot of adrenalin right now, as he hasn’t fought since last January and he’s been knocked out three consecutive times. You can blame some of the losses on bad match-making, because Ortiz clearly needed to take it easy after his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr in September of 2011.

Can Victor Ortiz rise from the ashes?

By Robbie Bannatyneortiz654: If there is one boxer whose real life fighting career most closely mirrors the fantasy of Slyvester Stallone’s classic Rocky series it is Victor Ortiz.

Despite being on 27 years old, Ortiz’s short life and career is colourful enough to have come straight from the creative mind of a Hollywood script writer.

However, fantasy and reality have overlapped as both Ortiz and Sly Stallone have become close after the former featured in the latest Expendables film at the behest of the Hollywood legend.

Victor Ortiz returns to the ring on December 13th in Las Vegas, Nevada

ortiz1 - CopyBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-5-2, 22 KOs) will be returning to the ring on December 13th after 10 months of inactivity to face an opponent still to be determined on the Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander card on Showtime from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Ortiz, 27, will be fighting an opponent still to be determined in a 10 round bout. Ortiz last fought in January of this year when he was quickly knocked out in 2 rounds by Luis Collazo. Ortiz made Collazo look like a great fighter, and this led to Collazo getting ranked highly by the WBA despite the fact that Collazo hadn’t beaten anyone of quality in years.

Victor Ortiz: What next?

ortiz1 - CopyBy Jamie Eskdale: After Victor Ortiz’ catastrophic defeat at the hands of Luis Collazo this past Thursday night where can he go from here? Going into the fight it seemed everyone was of the opinion that this was a real must win fight for Ortiz. After his self imposed exile from the game following his nasty jaw break in his bout against Josesito Lopez, Ortiz really had to hit the ground running. This made Collazo as the choice of opponent all the more baffling.

Collazo himself was at a crossroads. The victim of some dodgy decisions in the past, Collazo had slipped under the radar.

The last I had seen of him was on the Hopkins Dawson undercard in his defeat against Freddy Hernandez. I must admit I lost track of him after this, and was surprised to see his name floated around as an opponent for Ortiz.

Can Collazo claim a second world title?

collazo66By Timothy Medina: On Thursday at the Barclays Center located in Brooklyn, New York, Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) retained his WBA International Welterweight title against Victor Ortiz (29-5-2, 22 KO’s). Collazo winning the fight was no surprise to me. What surprised me was how Collazo won. The fight ended much earlier than anyone had expected when Collazo landed a thunderous right hook on Ortiz’s chin that would leave Ortiz on his knees, unsure of what he got hit with, at the end of the second round.

Collazo’s victory over Ortiz was alarming and he has once again made himself noticed in the welterweight class. Even though he disposed of Ortiz, he has not made his mark in the welterweight class. Collazo has defeated a once very good fighter, yet, Ortiz had not fought since June of 2012, and is not the same as he was three years ago.
