Berto wants revenge against Ortiz

Berto was knocked down twice in that fight in losing by a close 12 round decision in their fight of the year contest. Berto and Ortiz will be facing each other next month on April 30th on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox from the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Since his loss to Ortiz five years ago, Berto’s career has been rocky.

The two originally fought each other five years ago in 2011, when the two of them were still in the prime of their careers. Now five years later, Ortiz and Berto are arguably over-the-hill and no longer truly relevant in the 147lb division.

The Berto-Ortiz fight is expected to be announced this coming week, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. PBC will be announcing a series of fights this week just as Showtime Sports made a big announcement of fights last week for their network.

A long-going personal feud between these two lead up to an amazing fight, known as “Bad Blood”. De La Hoya eventually won by TKO in the 11th round. Drawn to the rivalry, the fight delivered for boxing fans and this type of fight is something we must have again for the sake of boxing history.

ortiz1By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (30-5-2, 23 KOs) comes into this Saturday night’s fight against journeyman Gilberto Sanchez Leon (33-13-2, 13 KOs) in poor shape career-wise in his fight on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC Sports Net from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Ortiz, 28, hasn’t fought in over a year after dealing with an injury from his last fight against Manuel Perez that sidelined him all this time since December of last year. Ortiz suffered a fractured left wrist in that fight, and it was an injury that required surgery and a lot of rehab for it to finally heal.

Berto, 32, was recently beaten by WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision on September 12th.

ortiz54By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (30-5-2, 23 KOs) says he doesn’t even see the September 12th match-up between WBA/WBC 147lb champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) and former IBF/WBC welterweight champ Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) as an actual fight. Ortiz says he sees it as an embarrassing fight, and that he thinks both guys should retire from the sport. However, Ortiz, 28, says he would still like a rematch with Mayweather so that he can try and avenge his 4th round knockout defeat that he suffered against him in their fight in September 2011.

“You know what? It’s embarrassing, bro,” Ortiz said to TMZ.com about the Mayweather vs. Berto fight on September 12th. “That’s not even a fight.

Brandon Rios wants Victor Ortiz fight

rios99By Dan Ambrose: Having no luck in trying to negotiate a fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (33-2-1, 24 KOs) is interested in facing former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (30-5-2, 23 KOs) next if he’s game.

The two fighters have been exchanging words back and forth with one another, and wants to get the 28-year-old Ortiz in the ring so that he can shut him up once and for all. However, Ortiz is recovering from a hand injury, and it’s not likely that he’ll be able to face Rios this summer unless the injury heals quickly.

Mayweather knocked Ortiz out in the 4th round in that fight shortly after Ortiz had fouled him with what appeared to be an intentional head-butt.

Ortiz feels that Mayweather owes him the rematch due to the way he cold-cocked him with a left-right combination while he was apologizing to him over his head-butt.
