Hughie Fury’s team made offer to Tony Thompson for fight?

fury5656By Scott Gilfoid: According to Boxingroundup, heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury’s team has made an offer to American heavyweight Tony Thompson to fight the young 18-year-old Hughie. Thompson, however, is calling the offer a lie and he’s not happy with people saying that an offer was made to him by Hughie’s team.

Thompson said on his social media site today “@Peterfuy @tyson_fury, this is a f***ing lie. Stop printing this s**t!. Ain’t s**t to clear up. This is some bulls***.”

Oh, this is sad. Does this mean a bogus offer was made just to get Hughie’s name mentioned in the same breath as a talented fighter like Tony Thompson? Gee, that sounds like name dropping in a way. Was Thompson’s name mentioned to get Hughie some badly needed attention in the media?

David Price needs to improve

price455By Tom Drury: The dust has now well and truly settled after David Price’s stoppage defeat at the hands of American Tony Thompson. David Price is a prime example of how hard boxing as a sport is, size and physical strength alone are not nearly enough to succeed in this sport. I do not agree with the people who said it was not a good idea to put Price straight back in there with Thompson. Thompson is a “C” level fighter at best and without question is over the hill.

Price not so long ago was tipped to go on and achieve Heavyweight success, how wrong were those who voiced that opinion, not just fans but experts, trainers and fighters. Price in my opinion was never destined for big things, he doesn’t move well, his hands are slow and he doesn’t have many punches in his arsenal.

Lennox Lewis surprised he’s being blamed for David Price’s loss

price555By Scott Gilfoid: Lennox Lewis says he was only given 3 weeks to train former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) for his fight last Saturday night against Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Lewis says he wanted to train the 29-year-old Price for 5 weeks to get him ready for this important bout, but was only allowed to get a mere 3 weeks. Needless to say it’s almost impossible to make any lasting changes to a fighter after only 3 weeks working with them unless they have a brain like a sponge and can learn things quickly.

Usually the younger fighters are the ones that a lot more moldable in changing their fighting style. Price is a bit up there in age and about to hit 30. It’s not usual for fighters that old to be slow in making any lasting changes to their style with just a few weeks of work.

Paying the ultimate Price

price676By T. Charles: Hindsight in boxing, just as in any aspect of life is a great thing. After the second David Price v Tony Thompson fight several observers were quick to comment on the fact that they felt Price should have had a warm up fight before jumping straight back in with Thompson, likewise the relationship forged between Lennox Lewis and Price was criticized because of the effect it might have had on the equilibrium of the Price Team.

However before the first bell rang of Price v Thompson 2 the general consensus was that Price was unlucky in the first fight, as Thompson had caught him in a spot whereby a ‘lucky punch’ would drop anybody, iron or glass chin – when a fighter gets hit around the ear it ‘scrambles the senses’ etc etc, – insert whatever boxing cliché you prefer.

In hindsight: Price’s career was poorly planned and rushed

price66By Boxingmuse: @BoxingMuse – Merseyside’s David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) was once again halted by ‘The Tiger’ Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) in another shock night in Liverpool.

I am not a fan of Price or Thompson but in reflection of both bouts, it is accurate to say David Price’s professional career was poorly planned and rushed.

Before the proposed match up with Thompson, Price owned a resume of 15 wins and 13 by knockout, against journeymen, overmatched fighters and domestic level boxers. Although looking very impressive in these bouts it is obvious there was a fatal era in the progression of this boxer’s career.

Tony Thompson: I want that big bum [Fury]; I need his ranking

thompson4543By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) is looking to add another British scalp to his collection after taking David Price’s for the second and likely the final time last Saturday night in their rematch at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Thompson now wants to pick off Fury and take his scalp in front of his own fans in the UK if he’ll accept the fight. Thompson doesn’t think he will, but he’s putting it out there just the same that he wants the 6’9” fighter.

Thompson said to Sky Sports “I’ll do the same thing to Fury;

Lewis thinks he can fix Price’s stamina problems

lewis4By Scott Gilfoid: Last night we saw David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) start off well against ring veteran Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) in the first three rounds, but then run out of gas in the process of getting stopped in the 5th. Lennox Lewis, who helped train the 29-year-old Price for the fight, thinks the 6’8” Price’s stamina problems can easily be fixed on working on this area of his game.

Lewis said to Sky Sports “You have to have stamina. You have to be able to box on the inside and the outside…we find that David’s got a stamina problem; all we have to do is fix that.”

Is Lewis kidding? How in the heck are they going to fix a stamina problem on a fighter as big as Price and as old as him.

Price’s tactics costs him the fight with Thompson

By James Smith: Mark Twain once suggested “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” Tony ‘The Tiger’ Thompson once again showed that this saying is equally applicable to big cats, as he walked through 6’8 Liverpudlian David Price in 5 rounds last night.
