Arum moving Crawford & Bradley to Showtime?

crawford754

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is interested in moving several of his top fighters – Terence Crawford, Vasyl Lomachenko and Tim Bradley – to Showtime Boxing in order to get them fight dates. According to Arum, HBO doesn’t have the available budget to get fight dates for all of these guys.

Arum doesn’t want them to just sit and do nothing, so he’s looking to bring them over to Showtime. Arum likes the idea of matching WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (29-0, 20 KOs) against fighters from Al Haymon’s stable. Haymon has a lot of good fighters like Adrien Broner that Arum could match Crawford against at 140.

Cotto vs. Bradley or Kirkland possible for December

Image: Cotto vs. Bradley or Kirkland possible for December

By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) is still looking to lockdown an opponent for his next fight in December. The two options that are being talked about for the 35-year-old Cotto right now is James Kirkland (32-2, 28 KOs) and Tim Bradley (32-2-1, 13 KOs).

Yuriorkis Gamboa recently revealed that he’s a possibility too for Cotto’s next fight on HBO pay-per-view, but that’s just so hard to believe that the former four division world champion would go that route in selecting a super featherweight to fight. However, Cotto has shown interest recently in fighting former featherweight Juan Manuel Marquez and former WBA lightweight champion Brand Rios.

Tim Bradley re-ups with Top Rank for two more years

Image: Tim Bradley re-ups with Top Rank for two more years

By Chris Williams: Rather than testing the free market to fight some of the biggest names at 147, former two division world champion Tim Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs) has signed a two-year extension with Top Rank.

This isn’t the first time the 32-year-old Bradley has re-upped with Top Rank. He already did it before and got a nice payday against Manny Pacquiao for a third fight. However, with the Pacquiao seemingly exhausted after the less than spectacular pay-per-view numbers from their last fight in April, there doesn’t appear to be anyone in the Top Rank stable for Bradley to fight.

He won’t fight his good friend Terence Crawford, because they’re good buddies. Once you remove Crawford from the mix, it leaves Bradley fighting rematches against Top Rank fighters Brandon Rios and Jessie Vargas, and maybe someone like Viktor Postol. Those are not big fights.

Donaire: Crawford needs Pacquiao to become a star

1-crawford (5)

By Patrick McHugh: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire believes that light welterweight champion Terence Crawford is at the point where he absolutely needs a win over a big name like Manny Pacquiao for him to become the new star in the sport of boxing. Donaire sees it as a passing of the torch. He notes that Pacquiao become a huge PPV attraction in his own right after he beat an old lion in Oscar De La Hoya in 2008, and now it’s Crawford’s turn in needing a big name for him to get to the next level.

Donaire doesn’t think Pacquiao should take the fight with Crawford in his next fight. He thinks he should fight WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas in his next fight.

Bradley: Kell Brook has an chance against Golovkin

Image: Bradley: Kell Brook has an chance against Golovkin

By Dan Ambrose: Both Roy Jones Jr. and Tim Bradley both are on the same side in their belief that undefeated 30-year-old IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has a good chance of beating knockout artist IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Bradley takes a rather simplistic outlook to the Golovkin-Brook fight by pointing out that Brook has two hands like GGG, and ties his shoes like him. In other words, Brook has a chance because he breathes oxygen, drinks water, has two eyes, a nose and ears. He exists on earth, so therefore he has a chance.

Bradley favors Crawford over Pacquiao

crawford944444

(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: Former world champion Tim Bradley says he’s picking WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford to defeat Manny Pacquiao if the two of them face each other next on November 5. Bradley thinks the combination of Crawford’s size, power, boxing IQ and ring movement will be enough for him to defeat the 37-year-old Pacquiao. However, Bradley sees it as a tough fight for Crawford because Pacquiao isn’t one-dimensional like Crawford’s opponent from last Saturday night former WBC 140lb champion Viktor Postol (28-1, 12 KOs), who Bradley beat by a 12 round unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“He looked sensational. He has so many dimensions to his game,” said Bradley about Crawford to Hoopjab. “It’s a tough match [Crawford vs. Pacquiao]. I’m going to go with my boy, Terence. I think the IQ, and the movement. I think he will definitely give Manny problems with all that movement. I would favor my boy, Terence. With his size, I would favor him in a fight. With Manny, you can never count that guy out. He’s a beast,” said Bradley.

Arum says Pacquiao-Bradley III generated 400-500K PPV buys

pac55By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says the April 9 fight between Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) and Tim Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs), which was their third fight together, lost money. Arum says the fight generated between 400,000 to 500,000 PPV buys. That sounds way too high to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fight card generated only 300,000 PPV buys. The Pacquiao-Bradley 3 fight was televised on HBO pay-per-view, and both fighters were given big guaranteed money for the fight. Pacquiao received $20 million in guaranteed money, and Bradley got $4 million.

According to Arum, the Pacquiao-Bradley 3 event lost money. Just how much is unclear. Arum should have matched Pacquiao against a dangerous opponent if he wanted to bring in a lot of PPV buys. It would have probably taken someone like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to lure angry fans back to see Pacquiao fight again after many of the fans felt burned by his previous fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Tim Bradley: I still can fight, man!

bradley833By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Tim Bradley (33-2-1, 14 KOs) suffered his second loss in his last five fights last Saturday night in a 12 round unanimous decision loss to Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley, 32, has won only two out of his last five fights, and those wins were against his promoter Bob Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters Jessie Vargas and Brandon Rios. Bradley didn’t face anyone actually good other than Pacquiao. Bradley says he wants to continue his boxing career, but he wants the big fights that will help his legacy.

Arum expects Pacquiao-Bradley to be between 400K and 500K PPV buys

pac9876By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum now seems to be coming to terms with the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley III fight not bringing in big numbers on HBO pay-per-view last Saturday night. Arum was initially talking about the Pacquiao vs. Bradley III fight bringing in between 700,000 and 800,000 pay-per-view buys on HBO. Arum is now talking about the fight bringing in 400,000 and 500,000, and he’s not happy with those numbers, according to Dan Rafael. What a disappointment.

If Arum had taken a poll or asked yours truly whether it was a good idea for him to trot out Bradley for yet another fight against Pacquiao, I think the 84-year-old Top Rank promoter would have found out that it was horrible idea.

Mayweather thought Pacquiao-Bradley 3 was a draw

Image: Mayweather thought Pacquiao-Bradley 3 was a drawBy Jeff Aranow: Floyd Mayweather Jr. reportedly thought last Saturday’s fight between Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) and Tim Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs) was a draw, according to ESPN. For the record, Pacquiao won the fight by a 116-110 score on all three judges’ scorecards. Pacquiao knocked Bradley down twice in the fight in dropping him in the 7th and 9th rounds.

The knockdown in the 7th round was a controversial one in the minds of some boxing fans, as it looked to some like Pacquiao had partially pushed Bradley, causing him to bend forward touch the canvas with his gloves. In the last three rounds, Pacquiao appeared to be in control over the fight.
