Chisora hoping Fury beats Cunningham

598(Photo Credits to Larry Levanti/Main Events) By Scott Gilfoid: Former British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora is pulling for unbeaten Irish heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) to beat American Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) this Saturday in Fury’s pro debut at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA.

Chisora’s reasoning’s for backing Fury are pretty simple and straight forward. Chisora is backing Fury because he sees him as a Brit, although Fury seems to be relating more to his Irish blood as of late.

Fury said to Irish-boxing.com “All my people are from Ireland. I was born in Manchester but I am Irish…when I fight I represent Ireland.”

British fights this weekend: Cleverly-Krasniqi, Fury-Cunningham & Chisora-Avila

cleverly6By Lee Smith: There are a couple of Brits fighting this weekend in some interesting fights. All are at different stages in there career and if any of them were to lose then there careers would be taking a huge huge step back. However, I am predicting that won’t happen.

Derek Chisora is fighting virtually unknown Argentinian Hector Alfredo Avila in a comeback fight having lost his last 3 fights. Chisora is actually a lot better than his 15-4 record shows; having only lost to top class opposition. He is a former British and Commonwealth champion. When he was just 14-0, he signed to fight Wladimir Klitschko for the World Title. The fight never took place and Chisora eventually lost the titles to now World Title Contender Tyson Fury on Points.

Khan: Fury needs to keep quiet and prove himself

fury68By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan thinks unbeaten heavyweight contender should stop talking so much in the media about how great he is and start trying to prove himself instead. Fury has been calling himself the best heavyweight fighter in the planet recently in what some boxing fans see as a poor imitation of Muhammad Ali.

Fury doesn’t have Ali’s skills and instead has been beating 3rd tier heavyweights with his big size advantage over them.

Khan said to the mirror.co.uk “With Tyson Fury, he hasn’t proven anything or won anything big yet…If I were him, I’d stay quiet and show off my skills.”

Fury refuses to take part in coin toss with Cunningham at final press conference

fury45By Scott Gilfoid: Irish heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) flat out said no to the idea of a coin toss at the final press conference with his opponent Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) today to determine who would be the fighter that comes out second for their fight on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

As soon as promoter Kathy Duva produced a coin and announced they were going to do a coin toss, Fury got bent out of shape and went into a long-winded rant, bragging about himself and downgrading Cunningham. It seemed to go on forever before Fury finally closed his yap so that other people could talk.

Tyson Fury: Will you call Steve a bum when I beat him?

fury1qBy Daniel Mcglinchey: Outspoken heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) faces off against two time world champion Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) this Saturday night at MSG, New York. During the press conference between the two heavyweights, a Cunningham fan in the crowd made the comment of “Who have you fought? Bums” Tyson’s reply was quite interesting “Everyone is a bum after Tyson Fury has beaten them, when I beat Steve is he then a bum too?”

Tyson’s last 10 opponents include 4 undefeated fighter’s when he went up against them, 2 world title challengers and the current English Heavyweight title holder (not bad for someone of only 24). Fury was a big underdog in the Derek Chisora battle. Chisora was respected and the clear favorite before the fight, but after Fury came out victorious winning virtually every round. Derek is then automatically a bum in many people’s eyes.

Tyson Fury vs. Steve Cunningham this Saturday, April 20th in Madison Square Garden, New York

fury1By Scott Gilfoid: The moment of truth has arrived for the unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) in his fight this Saturday night against the MUCH more experienced and arguably MUCH more talented Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, New York, USA.

Fury, 24, has two ways to go if he wins this fight. He’s been promised a shot at the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne fight by World Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman to get a shot to become the mandatory challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko or he can choose to go the more dangerous route of fighting unbeaten #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev to try and become the mandatory challenger for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

A look at the upcoming fights in 2013: Mayweather-Guerrero, Fury-Cunningham, more!

floyd91By James Sexton: 2013 started off a little sluggishly, but has really picked up recently. We were treated to several real intense match-ups such as Rios-Alvardo 2, Bradley-Provodnikov, and Donaire-Rigondeaux. However I feel some of the upcoming fights this year are going to be real gems to watch and our view of some of the current ‘prospects’ is going to have changed once it is all said and done.

We have Tyson Fury’s latest outing against Steve Cunningham. A win here could propel Fury that one step closer to a fight for a world title. Although I have been highly critical of Furys chosen opposition, I am pleased to say I feel he is moving in the right direction and if it isnt in this fight, it will be one of his next few which will really show where he belongs to be rated in the heavyweight division.

Hennessy: Tyson Fury is two fights away from Wladimir

fury222By Scott Gilfoid: British promoter Mick Hennessy figures that his fighter unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury is only two fights away from a shot at IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko this year or perhaps next.

Fury has to get past 36-year-old former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham next Saturday night on April 20th at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. If Fury wins that fight, he then will have to face unbeaten #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev this year to become Wladimir’s mandatory challenger.

Fury in a position where he’s going to look bad against Cunningham

569By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury is almost in a no-win situation with his fight this month against 36-year-old Steve Cunningham at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The 6’9” Fury thinks he’s going to impress the American boxing fans with his first fight in the United States, but unless he scores a quick knockout – which is highly unlikely given his complete absence of power – he’s going to end up struggling against Cunningham.
