“Let’s Go Champ” – Shannon Briggs The Real Heavyweight Champion

briggs7774By Listen: With the shocking loss by Wladimir Klitschko, to Tyson Fury the heavyweight division was turned upside down less than two months ago. The boxing community was left stunned as the once invincible Klitschko, who had ruled the heavyweight division for over a decade turned in a lethargic performance losing by unanimous decision to a less than stellar Tyson Fury.

With all respect due to the new world champion, Klitschko essentially gave away his titles, fighting cautiously (to be nice), and scared if we are being truthful throughout the fight. Watching the fight some wondered if Wladimir grew old or uninspired overnight.

Klitschko performance was a surprise to everyone, everyone except, former heavyweight champion of the world, Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs (59-6-1, 52 KO’s).

1-Screen Shot 2015-09-26 at 10.46.45 PMBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) says he’d like to defend his WBC title next month on January 16th against 44-year-old #5 WBA Shannon Briggs (59-6-1, 52 KOs) if he’s willing to accept the money offer for the fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Wilder, 6’7”, was recently disappointed when the opponent that he wanted to fight on 1/16, #3 WBC Vyacheslav Glazkov, jumped ship and decided he preferred to go after the IBF heavyweight title that was recently won by Britain’s Tyson Fury.

Shannon Briggs still targeting Wladimir Klitschko

briggs7774By Allan Fox: #5 WBA Shannon Briggs (59-6-1, 52 KOs) is still pushing hard for a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) despite the lack of interest from the 39-year-old Ukrainian fighter. Briggs, 43, took to Instagram to express his desire to face Klitschko.

Briggs also seems to be interested in facing WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder; although it appears that his main interest is facing Klitschko. The money for a fight against Klitschko would have to be very good for Briggs, who has won his last eight fights since being beaten to a pulp by Wladimir’s older brother former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko five years ago in 2010 in a one-sided fight.

Klitschko says he might fight Shannon Briggs

YouTube video

By Tim Fletcher: After confronting IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) on Thursday at the Lucky Street boxing Gym in Hollywood, Florida, Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs (58-6-1, 51 KOs) was able to get the 39-year-old Klitschko to say that he might get him a title shot in the near future.

It appeared to be an embarrassing meeting for Wladimir. Briggs appeared to be trying to intimidate the Ukrainian confronting him during his workout in front of the media. Briggs openly pawed Wladimir with his hands, and when Wladimir touched Briggs back, he was told by Briggs “Don’t you ever touch me like that. Don’t you ever touch me face. For real. I’ll put hands on you.”

Deontay Wilder has been offered $2 million to face Shannon Briggs

It’s no secret that Briggs and Wilder have had some bad blood for a while.

Should the WBC sanction Deontay Wilder – Shannon Briggs?

deontay32 - Copy (2)By Gav Duthie: Bob Arum recently stated it is impossible to rank the enormity of fights today against those of yesteryear largely because we live in a different time. He was referring to the world of social media and the accessibility of communications. One fighter who has hugely taken advantage of this brand new world is Shannon ‘The Cannon’ Briggs. Briggs to his credit has fought 7 times in exactly 1 year since his comeback in April 2014 after a four year hiatus from the sport.

These fights wouldn’t be described as anything more than bar room brawls but in spite of this he continues to make headlines. Briggs has used the mediums of twitter and Youtube as well as borderline unhealthy stalking to goad Wladimir Klitschko and more recently Deontay Wilder into fighting him. Every piece of work is signed off with #letsgochamp.

Deontay Wilder and Shannon Briggs liven up a dull Klitschko-Jennings weigh-in

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder both lived up what was an otherwise dull weigh-in for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) and challenger Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs). Briggs initially was taunting Wladimir by repeatedly saying “Let’s go champ” in a move that appears to be designed to get the 39-year-old Wladimir to agree to fight him.
