Shannon Briggs to fight in December

briggs86

By Patrick McHugh: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs says he’ll be back inside the ring in December. He’s not saying who his opponent will be other than it not being former two division world champion David Haye.

Briggs was hoping to get a fight against the 35-year-old Haye. Briggs even agreed to fight on Haye’s undercard last May in thinking that it would possibly lead to him getting a fight against him. The fight never materialized and now Briggs is moving on in another direction.

“I just got great news from #KrisLawrence @theheavyweightfactory ceo. I’ll be fighting in December,” said Briggs on his Instagram. “The show must go on. I scared 💩 out of #DavidFeathers aka @mrdavidhaye so now I have to go another route. What’s his excuse? You ain’t ready? I pulled your hair? I cyber bullied you? 😂😂😂 Your toe hurting again? 😂😂😂 I’m dying to see the pie they dig up for your next pie fight.”

Briggs says Haye is making excuses to avoid fight

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs hasn’t given up on trying to get a fight against Britain’s David Haye despite the fact that he appears to be showing little interest in wanting to share the ring with him. Briggs has taken to social media to vent about Haye not giving him a fight after he agreed to fight on his undercard last May against Emilio Ezequiel Zarate at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Briggs, 44, thought he would get a fight against the 35-year-old Haye if he fought on his undercard, but it doesn’t appear that he’ll be getting the fight.

Briggs put together a hilarious Instagram post on Saturday from the movie The Warriors where he’s calling out a terrified looking Haye. From looking at the post, it appears Haye wants no part of mixing it up with Briggs. It’s funny stuff.

David Haye vs. Shannon Briggs fight still in limbo

haye6

By Scott Gilfoid: There doesn’t appear to be any movement for the fight between heavyweight David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) and 44-year-old former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs (60-6-1, 53 Kos). Briggs fought last May against Emilio Ezequel Zarate on the undercard of Haye’s fight against Arnold Gjergjaj with what some boxing fans thought was an understanding that he would get a fight against Haye later this year in September.

Well, here we are in September and Briggs still doesn’t have a fight date against the 35-year-old Haye, and it remains to be seen whether he ever will. So the question is did Briggs fight on Haye’s undercard for nothing?

Just where Briggs goes if he can’t get a fight against Haye is anyone’s guess. Briggs seems to have put his career in a stall recently while waiting for a fight against Haye. He’ll need to get into the ring against somebody. Briggs’ management needs to do the heavy lifting to get him some fights, because he’s up there in age. If the fight against Haye isn’t going to happen, then Briggs can’t just around doing nothing.

Shannon Briggs attempts to confront David Haye

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Last Saturday night, 44-year-old Shannon Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs) attempted to confront David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) in New York, but Haye took off in another direction to avoid him. The two were both at the Leo Santa Cruz vs. Carl Frampton fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It was the perfect opportunity for Haye to help create interest in the Briggs fight by the two of them standing and jawing at each other. Just why haye would pass up this opportunity is anyone’s guess. Does he not want to fight Briggs now? If so, then what happened for him to lose interest?

Shannon Briggs: David Haye is shot

briggs888

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs) is already making predictions about his fight against David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) even though the fight still isn’t made yet between them. They’re supposed to fight each other in September or so. Briggs thinks he’s going to KO Haye in the first round. Briggs says he thinks Haye is a shot fighter.

I’m not going to disagree with Briggs about him think Haye is a shot fighter. I mean, Briggs is the boxing expert. If he thinks Haye is a shot fighter, then who am I to disagree with a boxing great like Briggs.

Haye: I can’t afford to get hit by Briggs’ big punches

haye866

By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) did what everyone expected him to last Saturday night in smashing an over-matched Arnold Gjergjaj (29-1, 21 KOs) in two rounds at the O2 Arena in London, UK. It wasn’t a fight, and it clearly wasn’t supposed to be. Gjergjaj was just some second tier fighter with an inflated resume of empty wins until Haye signed him. Now that the Haye-Gjergjaj is done with, Haye will be facing 44-year-old Shannon Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs) in September in the UK.

Haye, 35, is very wary of Briggs’ punching power, and he should be. Briggs looked devastating in destroying Emilio Zarate in one round last Saturday night on the undercard of the Haye vs. Gjergjaj fight. Heck, Briggs looked even better than Haye. He was throwing nothing but body shots and he looked very powerful, and not like an older guy. Briggs fought like someone in his 30s.

While the 224 pound Haye showed good punching power in throwing head shots against Gjergjaj, the 250lb Briggs looked considerably stronger in ripping punches to the body of Zarate until he collapsed on the canvas and laid there in pain.

Shannon Briggs: I’m running Haye out of England!

By Scott Gilfoid: The powerful Shannon Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs) picked up his ninth straight victory in his comeback last Saturday night in defeating the capable Emilio Ezequiel Zarate (20-17-3, 11 KOs) by a 1st round knockout at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Briggs sealed the victory with a monstrous left hook to the body that had Zarate on the canvas looking like he was in agony from the shot. The victory for Briggs puts him in an important fight with former two division world champ David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs), who won his fight in the main event on the same card in defeating Arnold Gjergjaj (29-1, 21 KOs) in stopping him in the 2nd round.

Briggs clearly stole the show with his more impressive performance in stopping the 34-year-old Zarate. Briggs attracted the most interest on the card, oddly enough. The Haye-Gjergjaj fight was more like the walk out fight that was a mere after though to the real main event on the card.

Haye-Gjergjaj & Briggs-Zarate preview & prediction

hayeBy Scott Gilfoid: We’ve got a couple of mismatches tonight involving former two division world champion David Haye (27-2, 25 KOs) in his fight against bottom dweller #14 WBO Arnold Gjergjaj (29-0, 21 KOs) and former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (59-6-1, 52 KOs) and 34-year-old Argentinian journeyman Emilio Ezequiel Zarate (20-16-3, 11 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

On paper, the Haye-Gjergjaj and Briggs-Zarate fights are dreadful mismatches in fights that arguably should never even have been made for the top of a card. I mean, I’m still kind of dumbfounded that Haye vs. Gjergjaj could be a headliner fight because it’s such a terrible mismatch.

Forget for a second that the World Boxing Organization has the unknown 31-year-old Gjergjaj ranked #14 with their organization. This just a bad match-up in my view. Gjergjaj has no experience against upper level heavyweights.
