Schaefer wants Victor Ortiz vs. Shane Mosley in late summer

ortiz4By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is going to be playing it safe with former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) by putting him in with 41-year-old Shane Mosley (47-8-1, 39 KO’s) in the late summer rather than letting Ortiz fight Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, who is really itching for a fight with Ortiz.

You can’t blame Schaefer for wanting to take it easy with Ortiz. He’s lost his last two fights and is coming off of a 9th round stoppage loss to Josesito Lopez last year in June in a fight where Ortiz suffered a broken jaw and ended up quitting on his stool.

Mundine V Mosley in possible Australian Mega Fight

mundine653658By Michael Dickie Twitter @MichaelDickie – Sugar Shane Mosley, after coming out of retirement and winning a close decision over Pablo Cesar Cano, now finds himself with some very appealing options in front of him.

One of which is the potential to travel to Australia and fight three time World Champion Anthony “The Man” Mundine in a junior middleweight showdown that the Australian public are already calling a Mega Fight.

Mosley, 41, would earn himself a significant pay day against Mundine, while also being involved in a fight which could potentially go down as one of Australia’s biggest nights ever seen in its proud boxing history. All of this for Mosley, in just his second fight of his comeback.

Mosley could face Broner-Malignaggi winner or Mundine

mosley445(Photo credit: Alma Montiel) By Allan Fox: 41-year-old Shane Mosley (47-8-1, 39 KO’s) is being mentioned as a possible opponent for the winner of the June 22nd fight between WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) and Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s), according to Badlefthook.

Mosley will get the winner unless he chooses instead to face former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (44-5, 26 KO’s) in a fight that would take place in August or September in Australia.

Mosley is reportedly being offered good money for the Mundine fight to face him at 154. Mundine, a middleweight, would drop down 6 pounds to take the fight.

Schaefer: Mosley says Canelo is the fastest fighter he’s ever fought

alvarez45454By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is really working hard in making his fighter WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez sound than he actually is in reality. Schaefer is now saying that Shane Mosley thinks Canelo is the fastest fighter he’s ever been in with.

Schaefer said this to mlive.com “You ask Shane Mosley who is the fastest guy he ever fought, he’s going to say Canelo. His speed is vastly underrated, Shane said. And you saw a month ago, Canelo out-boxed the boxer in Austin Trout.”

I’ve seen Mosley’s fights between a young Oscar De La Hoya, his fight against Manny Pacquiao as well as his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2010, and I have to say that all three of those fighters were much faster against Mosley than Canelo was in his win over Mosley last year. It’s not even close.

Shane Mosley will likely receive a title shot after his victory over Cano

mosley200(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dallas Orysiuk: This weekend was full of many exciting and interesting boxing match-ups: Devon Alexander’s stoppage victory over Lee Purdy, Guillermo Jones stoppage of Denis Lebedev, Lucas Matthysses destruction of Lamont Peterson and finally Sugar Shane Mosley’s “great comeback” victory over the all-time great Pablo Cesar Cano. Mosley (47-8-1, 39 KOs) defeated Cano (26-3-1, 20 KOs) by a close but unanimous decision of 115-113.

In the process Mosley claimed the vacant WBC International welterweight title. Now Golden Boy is likely to put Mosley in line for a title shot.

Weights: Mosley 146.8, Cano 146

cano mosley(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Allan Fox: Ring rusty Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) made weight today for his fight tomorrow night against the 23-year-old Pablo Cesar Cano )26-2-1, 20 KO’s) for the vacant WBC International welterweight title) at the Grand Oasis Resort, Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Mosley weighed in at 146.8 lbs, and Cano came in a little lighter at 146. It was surprising seeing Cano come in a pound under the limit because last October, Cano looked like a middleweight after rehydrating for his fight against WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi last October.

Cano lost the fight by a 12 round split decision, but with his size advantage, he was able to knock Malignaggi down.

Will Pablo Cesar Cano Do The Fans a Favor and Finish Off Shane Mosley?

cano _mosley 01(Photo credit: Alma Montiel) By Dallas Orysiuk This weekend and upcoming weeks are full of exciting and intriguing matchups…. Shane Mosley versus Pablo Cesar Cano is not one of them. The matchup is so awful that when it was first proposed ShowTime or HBO refused to televise it. Sugar Shane Mosley, although a legend, is beyond shot. In all his fights lately he tenses up and barley throws punches. Even Paulie Malignaggi, who himself is past his prime and a B level fighter, would not stoop as low to fight Sugar Shane.

Shane Mosley has an impressive resume toting a record of 46-8-1 (39 KO’s),  is on an awful run as of late… to say the least. Mosley has not won in over 4 years, and is 0-3-1 in his last 4 fights. Mosley had two good rounds against Mayweather and then he practically gave up by stopping to let his hands go. Shane received a draw against the irrelevant, tomato can Sergio Mora, he was dropped and destroyed by Manny Pacquiao and was also destroyed by Saul Alvarez.

Shane Mosley vs. Pablo Cesar Cano next Saturday, May 18th in Cancun, Mexico

mosleyBy Allan Fox: 41-year-old former three division world champion Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) will be returning to the ring for the first time this year to face former world title challenger Pablo Cesar Cano (26-2-1, 20 KO’s) next Saturday night on May 18th at the Grand Oasis Resort in Cancun, Mexico.

Mosley hasn’t fought since taking a beating against the younger and much heavier WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last year in May in a fight that arguably should have never been made in the first place given how over-matched and out-sized the aging Mosley was in that fight.

WBC to have tribute for Mosley when he faces Cano on May 18th

mosley2312By Chris Williams: The World Boxing Council will do a tribute for 41-year-old Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) to honor his 20-year pro career when he steps inside the ring on May 18th to face Pablo Cesar Cano (26-2-1, 20 KO’s) in Mexico in a non-title fight.

WBC president Jose Sulaiman said to the record.com.mx “We see this fight as the fight of his retirement, he was an outstanding fighter and a great champion of the Council.”

This is interesting because Mosley is actually coming out of retirement rather than going into retirement, so it’s hard to understand the timing for this retirement ceremony that Sulaiman is putting on.

Shane Mosley vs. Pablo Cesar Cano on May 18th in Cancun, Mexico

cano54By Allan Fox: 41-year-old Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) will be coming out of retirement in two months to face 23-year-old Pablo Cesar Cano (26-2-1, 20 KO’s) in a fight that will take place in Cancun, Mexico, according to RingTV. Mosley had recently been trying to land a fight against WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi, but to no avail.

Malignaggi had second thoughts when it was clear the money wouldn’t be there for the fight.

Rather than give up, Mosley has decided to keep moving forward with his career, and he’s got a good starting point for his comeback in taking on Cano. In his last fight, Cano lost a controversial 12 round split decision to Malignaggi last year in October. If Mosley can beat Cano in a convincing fashion, he’ll show that he’s got what it takes to fight for a world title.
