Shane Mosley won’t be fighting Liam Smith

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: In what has to be seen as a smart move on Shane Mosley’s part, he’s decided to pass on a fight against newly crowned WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith (21-0-1, 11 KOs), according to Sky Sports. Apparently, Smith wanted a rematch clause in the contract and the 44-year-old Mosley (48-9-1, 40 KOs) wasn’t interested in getting locked into a long term thing with Smith where he’d have devote another long training camp to get ready for a second fight.

Liam Smith’s trainer wants Mosley in early 2016

mosley43443By Scott Gilfoid: Joe Gallagher, the trainer for WBO light middleweight champion Liam Smith (21-0-1, 11 KOs), says he’s interested in seeing Smith face 44-year-old #7 WBA welterweight contender “Sugar” Shane Mosley (48-9-1, 40 KOs) sometime in early 2016. Smith recently captured the vacant WBO 154lb title by beating John Thompson earlier this month by a 7th round knockout on October 10th.

Smith will be back in the ring on December 19th against an opponent still to be determined at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. They don’t want Mosley at that time. They want him later on next year. Gallagher thinks that Mosley is a big name that would be a fine addition to Smith’s resume.

Liam Smith v Shane Mosley in advanced talks

mosleyBy Gav Duthie: At the age of 44 ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley 48-9-1 (40) could be aiming to be the 3rd oldest man to win a world title in boxing history. At present the only two that have surpassed this feat are George Foreman, age 45 and Bernard Hopkins, age 48.

Rumors are circulating that newly crowned WBO light middleweight champion Liam Smith 21-0-1 (11) has agreed to face the veteran on the 19th December. If this fight was to come off it would add to a fantastic card which includes Andy Lee v Billy Joe Saunders also featuring champion Terry Flanagan and ex-champ Paul Butler at the Manchester Arena.

Liam Smith thinks Mosley should be calling him out

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned WBO light middleweight champion Liam Smith (21-0-1, 11 KOs) doesn’t know who he’ll be facing next after his 7th round knockout win over #5 WBO John Thompson (17-2, 6 KOs) last Saturday night at the Manchester Arena, in Manchester, UK.

For some reason, Smith, 27, is interested in fighting the 44-year-old Shane Mosley. Why Smith wants to fight Mosley rather than some of the younger and arguably more talented fighters like Vanes Martirosyan, Austin Trout, Demetrius Andrade, or Michel Soro is anyone’s guess.

Khan vs. Mosley a possibility for December 13th

khan101By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) says he wants to fight the big names like Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr., but he might instead wind up with a big name from the past in 44-year-old “Sugar” Shane Mosley (48-9-1, 40 KOs) for his next fight on December 13th instead of one of the superstars.

But what the heck, at least Khan would be getting a big name, even if the name is someone who is arguably 10 years past his prime.

Mayweather picked Berto to get a KO, says Mosley

Image: Mayweather picked Berto to get a KO, says MosleyBy Allan Fox: The only reason why Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) selected the 31-year-old Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) to fight this Saturday night is because he wants an opponent that he can definitely knockout, says “Sugar” Shane Mosley. He thinks that Mayweather selected Berto because he knows he won’t lose to him, and he knows he’ll probably have a good chance of getting him out of there at some point to impress the fans.

Mosley, now 43, says he would knock Berto out in two rounds if he were to face him, because he believes he has better punching power than Mayweather. Mosley doesn’t think that Berto would be able to hurt him with any of his shots. So he would pressure him and then halt him.

Kell Brook says he might fight 43-year-old Mosley if he keeps talking

brook54566By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like we may soon be seeing a nice little mismatch between IBF welterweight champion Kell “The Special One” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) if Brook can get past the hard hitting No.4 IBF contender Diego Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) on October 24th at the Sheffield Arena, Sheffield, UK.

Brook is starting to show interest in facing the soon to be 44-year-old Shane Mosley (48-9-1, 40 KOs) in a match. Mosley turns 44 four days from now on September 7th. Mosley recently took to Twitter following his win over 41-year-old relic from the past Ricardo Mayorga, saying “Either [Juan Manuel] Marquez or I would like to fight Special K Brook and snatch the belt from him.”

Mosley’s win over Mayorga proves nothing

By Tim Fletcher: Other than the 43-year-old “Sugar” Shane Mosley (48-9-1, 40 KOs) proving that he can beat an old and out of shape 41-year-old Ricardo Mayorga (31-9-1, 25 KOs) with a belt line body shot last Saturday night in the 6th round, Mosley didn’t really prove anything at all with his win against the Nicaraguan fighter at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Shane Mosley vs. Ricardo Mayorga tonight: Which one of these two wins?

mosleyBy Dan Ambrose: A couple of old timers will be fighting it out tonight in several hours from now between former three division world champion Shane Mosley (47-9-1, 39 KOs) and former two division champion Ricardo Mayorga (31-8-1, 25 KOs) at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

But now with Mosley coming off of a two year retirement, it’s going to be difficult get a lot of fans interested in purchasing the fight. Still, it’s going to be a nice fight if you like seeing well-known fighters go at it.

Based on the activity, Mayorga would have to be seen as the favorite for the fight.

Mosley – Mayorga battle it out at The Forum!

CMOwcnjW8AAvoYi.jpg largeBy Tim Fletcher: Boxing fans about to see what could be one of the better fights of the year when Shane Mosley (47-9-1, 39 knockouts) and Ricardo Mayorga (31-8-1, 22 KOs) meet up in a rematch tonight at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The fight is on pay-per-view for $49.95, but the cost is worth in the eyes of a lot of people because of how interesting this fight is.

If the Mosley-Mayorga fight is even half as exciting as their original fight in 2008, then the fans will have gotten their money’s worth. Mosley rallied in that fight to stop Mayorga in the closing seconds of the 12th round to get the victory.
