By Sean Jones: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions has announced the news that the rematch between Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin is ON for September 15. After the 24 hour deadline came and went today without Golovkin agreeing to the 57½-42½ Golden Boy was offering to him, it was believed that the rematch was dead in the water. However, Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler continued to work with Golden Boy and finally he was able to get the deal done for September 15 at a still to be determined venue.

Santos Saul Álvarez Barragán, better known as Canelo, which translates to ‘cinnamon’ for his fiery red hair, has spiced up the boxing scene since his debut. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1990, this pugilist has clinched world championships across four weight divisions, making him a staple in the Hall of Fame pantry. Canelo unified titles in three divisions and claimed lineal championships in two, notably overpowering Miguel Cotto in 2015 for the WBC, Ring, and lineal middleweight crowns. Outside the ring, Canelo’s life is just as sweet, sharing it with his two kids, Emily Cinnamon Alvarez and Mía Ener Álvarez, and his wife, Fernanda Gómez, since 2021. According to Forbes, Canelo is worth at least $275 million!
De La Hoya says GGG missed deadline for Canelo, “There is no fight”
By Sean Jones: Oscar De La Hoya says Gennady Golovkin missed the 24 hour deadline to agree to the 12 noon 57½-42½ purse split offer that was due today for the Saul Canelo Alvarez fight in September. De La Hoya says GGG doesn’t want the fight, so it’s now 100 percent dead in the water. However, the negotiations are still going on despite De La Hoya’s drama-filled pronouncements, and it’s still possible that the fight can done for September 15.

If Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) fail to agree to the offer, Golden Boy president Eric Gomez says they will match Canelo against former WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs in September instead.
Canelo Alvarez stripped of Ring Magazine middleweight title

Canelo has not only been remove as The Ring middleweight champion, but he’s not even rated in the top 10 at all, period.
Abel Sanchez optimistic Canelo-Golovkin rematch gets done
By Sean Jones: Trainer Abel Sanchez is sounding optimistic that the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin rematch will get done now that the promoters for the two fighters are back in negotiations. Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) has backed off his 50-50 purse split demand, and he’s now willing to take a 55-45 split. Sanchez feels that’s a good sign that GGG’s promoter Tom Loeffler is speaking with Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez and CEO Oscar De La Hoya.
WBC reinstates Canelo Alvarez to No.1 in their middleweight rankings

The WBC mandatory for WBC 160lb champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin is interim WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, however.
Canelo doesn’t need be the mandatory to get a title shot, since Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) is more than willing to give the 27-year-old another title shot, provided that he gives him a 55-45 split of the revenue for the fight. The two fought each other last September on HBO PPV, and it brought in 1.3 million buys.
Golden Boy’s offer for Jacobs rumored to be 80-20 split for Canelo fight
By Allan Fox: If the rumors are true, former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (34-2, 29 KOs) has been given an 80-20 offer from Golden Boy Promotions to fight Saul Canelo Alvarez on September 15 on HBO PPV in place of Gennady Golovkin, who has priced himself out for the fight.
Jacobs’ promoter Eddie Hearn has already stated this week that the offer from Golden Boy isn’t what they’re looking for, and they want a better deal before they’ll agree. If the 20% offer is valid, then it looks like Hearn might want it increased to close to what Golovkin received for his fight against Canelo Alvarez last September.
Loeffler says GGG willing to agree to 55-45 split for Canelo rematch

He says Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) is willing to take a 55-45 split for the September 15 rematch with the 27-year-old Canelo. Nevertheless, Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez isn’t sure whether Canelo and Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya will want to continue negotiating with GGG, as they’ve already moved on and are looking to put together a fight against former IBF middleweight champion Daniel ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs for September 15.
