Soliman robbed in Wade fight

Image: Soliman robbed in Wade fight(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: In a good old fashioned robbery, #5 IBF Sam Soliman (44-13, 18 KOs) found himself on the receiving end of a highly controversial 10 round last Friday night at the Little Creek Casino Resort, in Shelton, Washington, USA. Referee Jack Reiss appeared to have a really bad day at the office.

Reiss blew a call in the 4th round when Wade shoved Soliman to the canvas. Reiss ruled it a knockdown when it was a clear shove to the canvas. Instant replays showed that Reiss totally blew the call. Additionally, Reiss failed to take points off from #14 WBC Wade for body slamming Soliman to the canvas on two separate occasions.

Sturm turns down N’Dam fight, Soliman could be next

sturm462435By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm has reportedly turned down a clash with #1 IBF Hassan N’Dam for the vacant IBF middleweight title, according to Fightnews. Instead of Sturm fighting N’Dam for Jermain Taylor’s former IBF title, Sturm will be moving up in weight to the 168 pound division to try and get an all-German fight against WBO 168 pound champion Arthur Abraham.

That fight makes sense because Abraham has already had three fights in a short period of time against popular German fighter Robert Stieglitz, and if he can get a fight against Sturm, then Abraham can another German fighter to face.

Sam Soliman wants rematch against Jermain Taylor

taylor77By Allan Fox: The soon to be 41-year-old Sam Soliman (44-12, 18 KOs) is hoping to get an immediate rematch against IBF middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (33-4-1, 20 KOs), who beat him by a 12 round unanimous decision last October to capture his International boxing Federation 160lb title at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, in Biloxi, Mississippi, USA.

Soliman suffered a knee injury in the 6th round, which led to him getting knocked down four times in the fight in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th rounds. Soliman is rehabbing the injury and he’d like to face Taylor in his next fight.

Taylor dominates Soliman to win IBF title; Dirrell stops Brinson

taylor77By Scott Gilfoid: Former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (33-4-1, 20 KOs) pulled off a big upset win on Wednesday night in beating 40-year-old IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman (44-12, 18 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision to capture his International Boxing Federation title at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, in Biloxi, Mississippi, USA.

The final judges’ scores were 116-111, 115-109, and 116-109. It’s interesting that the judges had it scored that close given all the knockdowns.

Taylor, 36, knocked Soliman down 4 times in the fight. The knockdowns were largely the result of Soliman injuring his left leg in the 7th round after he appeared to slip on the wet canvas while backing up from one of Taylor’s shots. Soliman’s corner had spilled a great deal of water in the corner area which is what Soliman ended up slipping on in the 7th. Soliman was knocked down once in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th rounds.

Jermain Taylor battles Sam Soliman for IBF 160lb title tonight

taylor99By Scott Gilfoid: #15 IBF Jermain Taylor (32-4-1, 20 KOs) will be looking to upset the boxing odds tonight against the awkward IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman (44-11, 18 KOs) in their title fight on ESPN2 at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, in Biloxi, Mississippi, USA.

Taylor’s career was thought to be over 5 years ago following back to back knockout losses to Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham. But after taking two years off from boxing, Taylor came back in 2011 and he’s put together a nice little 4-fight winning streak to get him ranked in the top 15 by the IBF to get tonight’s title shot.

It’s one of those miracle situations that Taylor finds himself in, and he has an excellent chance of shocking the world by making his comeback complete by upsetting the champion Soliman on ESPN2.
