Robert Stieglitz vs. Yuzo Kiyota this Saturday, July 13th in Dresden, Germany

stieglitz32By Allan Fox: WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his WBO title this Saturday, July 13th, against #10 WBO, Yuzo Kiyota (23-3-1, 21 KO’s) at the Energie Verbund-Arena, in Dresden, Germany.

This is an optional title defense for the 32-year-old Stieglitz so he opted to take an easy fringe contender rather than a dangerous contender that might trouble him.

Stieglitz beat Arthur Abraham by a 4th round TKO last March to win the WBO super middleweight title back from him after having lost the belt last year to Abraham by a 12 round unanimous decision in August 2012.

Robert Stieglitz to fight on July 13th in Dresden, Germany

stieglitz32By Eric Thomas: WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his World Boxing Organization 168 lb. title on July 13th in Dresden, Germany, against an opponent still to be determined.

There had been talk of Stieglitz possibly fighting former WBO champion Arthur Abraham in a third fight, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Stieglitz has already fought Abraham two out of his last three fights, and it would seem almost like two fighters are monopolizing the WBO title if they were to fight for a third time without letting someone else get a shot at the belt.

Abraham’s left eye not damaged

abe11By Eric Thomas: Former WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) got some good news after having his swollen left eye checked out following his 4th round TKO loss to Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) last Saturday night in Magdeburg, Germany. There is no serious damage to his eye, according to Fightnews.com.

Abraham’s left eye closed up completed in the 3rd round as a result of some heavy shots from Stieglitz. The fight was then halted at the start of the 4th round by advice of the ringside doctor due to Abraham’s eye having closed up. There was a worry initially that Abraham may have sustained bone or eye damage, but luckily he escaped that.

Stieglitz wants to face Abraham again rather than someone else

abe3By Scott Gilfoid: Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) defeated WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) tonight by an injured related 4th round stoppage in Magdeburg, Germany, and already Stieglitz – and Abraham – are talking about a third fight with one another rather than looking to fight other guys.

I can understand it from Abraham’s point of view because he was really pounded tonight in getting his left eye closed and beaten up. But for Stieglitz, you’d think he would want to fight someone else for a change instead of just Abraham, but it looks like that’s the safest fight for him and the biggest money fight he can make given that Stieglitz is a German based fighter like him.

Abraham needs to move back down to 160

abe5By Eric Thomas: If we learned anything from watching WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) get slaughtered tonight by the bigger, stronger, and more talented Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) it’s that Abraham doesn’t belong fighting in the super middleweight division.

It was proven in the Super Six tournament where Abraham was beaten in three of the four fights he had, and it was proven once again tonight. Abraham simply doesn’t have the height or reach to compete in this weight class.

Stieglitz stops Abraham! Helenius defeats Sprott

YouTube video
By Jim Dower: Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) has pulled off a huge upset in stopping WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) by a 4th round stoppage on Saturday night. The fight was halted at the start of the 4th round due to Abraham’s left eye closing completely at the GETEC Arena, Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Allemagne, Germany.

The eye swelling was caused from a punch in the 2nd round.

Abraham-Stieglitz, Groves-Barakat, Helenius-Sprott tonight in Germany

Georges_Groves(Photo Wende) By Scott Gilfoid: WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-3, 28 KO’s) will be defending his title tonight against former WBO 168 lb. champion Robert Stieglitz (43-3, 28 KO’s) in a rematch at the GETEC Arena, in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

God, I hope this is the last time these guys fight because I want to see Abraham fight someone that actually has the chance to beat him, and Stieglitz proved clearly that he didn’t last year in August in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision.

Arthur Abraham defends WBO 168lb title against Robert Steiglitz on Saturday; Groves also on the card

Abraham_Stieglitz_faceBy Thomas Cowan: WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham faces former champion Robert Steiglitz in an “all-German” clash. Russian-born Steiglitz held the strap for 3 years and managed to milk his title against pretty poor opponents throughout his reign because all the top super middleweights were busy with the Super Six tournament.

However, last August, his luck ran out when the WBO forced him to face Abraham, who secured a comfortable victory. Unfortunately, a rematch clause means Abraham will be making a second easy defence of his title after he already made an optional defence against mediocre Frechman Mehdi Bouadla. Unless Abraham has an awful night or Steiglitz comes out looking like a completely different fighter, I can only see Abraham winning this fight.

Abraham vs. Stieglitz 2 next Saturday night, March 23rd in Germany

Robert Stieglitz vs Arthur Abraham(Photo: Wende) By Allan Fox: WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-3, 28 KO’s) will be facing former WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (43-3, 24 KO’s) for the second and hopefully the last time next Saturday night on March 23rd at The GETEC Arena, in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

Abraham, 33, already convincingly beat Stieglitz by a 12 round unanimous decision last year by the scores of 116-112, 115-113 and 116-112 last August, but we’re seeing a rematch because Stieglitz had a rematch clause in his contract.

Abraham-Stieglitz face off on March 23rd in Germany

abraham34By Allan Fox: With a rematch against former WBO 168 pound champion Robert Stieglitz (43-3, 24 KO’s) taking place on March 23rd, WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-3, 28 KO’s) is getting a little more time as the champion before he’s going to have to face his #1 WBO challenger George Groves and give up the title.

Abraham isn’t going to hold onto his title through title defense, and it’s not surprising his dragging it out by putting it off as long as possible so that he can fight guys like Mehdi Bouadla and Stieglitz.

Abraham, 33, beat Stieglitz by a 12 round unanimous decision last year in August to take his title. Stieglitz, 31, has fought once since then, beating little known 2nd tier fighter Michal Nieroda by a 3rd round knockout in January.
