By Dan Ambrose: The big favorite Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) easily won a 12 round unanimous decision over #6 WBC Robert Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) on Saturday night to capture the vacant WBC welterweight title at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112. I didn’t agree with the scoring at all.

I thought Guerrero won 5 rounds. If he had been able to do just a little bit more in the last four rounds, I would have had him winning the fight. Of course, with the way the judges scored the fight tonight, I think Guerrero would have needed a knockout to win. He was in a hopeless situation.

By Jim Dower: Former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) showed off his boxing skills as well as his power tonight in beating former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision to claim the vacant WBC 147lb title on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The three judges were in agreement in scoring it 116-112, 116-112, and 116-112. The scoring was pretty much on target. There were a couple of rounds that could have gone either way in the first half of the fight. Guerrero lost the fight by not attacking hard in the second half the way he needed to.

By Dan Ambrose: Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) and Robert Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) will both be well-paid tonight in their fight for the vacant WBC welterweight title at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Despite neither guy being a world champion at this present time, they will both be getting nice paydays for a fight on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. Garcia will be getting a purse of $1.5 million for this non-pay-per-view fight. For his part, Guerrero will get slightly less at $1.2 million.

By Jim Dower: Unbeaten #2 WBC Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) goes into tonight’s fight against the 32-year-old Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) a heavy favorite to defeat him and win the vacant WBC welterweight title at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

At Bovada, Garcia is listed as a -900 to beat #6 Guerrero to win the WBC 147lb title that was recently stripped from the retired Floyd Mayweather Jr. Guerrero is listed at +550. This isn’t a big surprise that the 27-year-old Garcia is such a heavy favorite.

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC 140lb champion Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) says he’s feeling a lot stronger since moving up in weight to the full weight for the welterweight division.

Garcia, 27, says he feels that nothing or no one can stop him right now with the way he’s feeling since moving up in weight. Garcia has punching power, he thinks, and with the added power, he’s picked up more confidence in his ability.

By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) says he’s gone back to the old school basics to get ready for his fight this Saturday night against Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Guerrero blames his poor performances in his last fights on him attempting to out-brawl his opponents in the welterweight division.

Guerrero feels that he got stuck on the brawl mode in his last four fights and failed to make adjustments to go back to boxing after he started to have problems in his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.

(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: An angry Ruben Guerrero, the father of #6 WBC Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs), almost came to blows with Angel Garcia, the father of #2 WBC Danny Garcia (31-0, 17 KOs), at their final press conference for their fight this Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Ruben Guerrero was all worked up emotionally when he took the stage to speak, and he immediately turned on the 52-year-old Angel Garcia and challenged him to a fight. Angel said “I’m 52-years-old, I don’t play that.” Ruben then said, “I don’t care. I am 58.” At that point, the two trainers were separated to keep blows from being thrown. Angel didn’t look like he was ready to throw any punches, but Ruben definitely did.

By Gerardo Granados: Yes, it is true, in prize fighting the boxers goal is to make as much money as they can, but even if they do make tons of money, they will never find glory, nor achieve respect from fight fans, by chasing easy opponents, because only the true lion kings can be involved in epic battles.

As much as I want to see it as a good match up and to see Robert Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) win the fight against unbeaten Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) this Saturday night in their fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, I simply cannot do it. Even if Garcia hasn’t looked good since September, 2013, when he defeated Lucas Matthysse. Guerrero hasn’t looked like the same fighter that he once did, and the tear and wear from his many wars in the ring may have finally caught up with him.
