Hatton: Mayweather & Pacquiao should fight and split purse 50-50

hatton5555By Chris Williams: Britain’s Ricky Hatton thinks Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. should hurry and fight while they still have time left with their careers. Hatton feels that it’s getting late for both of them in terms of their career, but they should still fight and split the purse 50-50.

Hatton said to espn.co.uk “Since Pacquiao got beat it’s lost its sparkle. It’s a shame that they don’t want to fight each other…I think they should go 50-50 and just get it on.”

That would have been a good idea three years ago in 2010, but Pacquiao couldn’t agree to the random blood testing that Mayweather wanted for the fight that would have taken place on March 13th, 2010. If you remember, Mayweather agreed on a 50-50 purse split, he agreed on a weight penalty and he agreed with the ring and glove size.

Hatton: Pacquiao should retire 100%

pac56By Chris Williams: Ricky Hatton believes it’s time for Manny Pacquiao to get out of the sport of boxing after his brutal 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December. Hatton saw the knockout and was shocked by it, and he thinks Manny should get out of boxing for the sake of his health and family. Hatton doesn’t think Pacquiao has anything to accomplish at this stage by sticking it out and taking further risks by fighting on.

Hatton said to fighthubtv.com “I felt so bad for Manny and his poor wife. It’s not nice seeing someone knocked out like that. I’d like to see Manny retire now. There’s nothing more he can do. 100 percent [Pacquiao should retire].”

Hatton: I don’t want to see a fifth Pacquiao-Marquez fight

pac88By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton doesn’t see any point in Manny Pacquiao taking on Juan Manuel Marquez for a fifth time. Hatton thinks there are signs there that Pacquiao may not have it anymore and he doesn’t want to see him go out and take another chance against Marquez and possibly end up getting knocked cold again.

Speaking with esnewsreporting.com, a fleshy and happy looking Hatton said “If you ever see me knocking about, buy me a point.” When asked if he would like to see Marquez and Pacquiao fight again for a fifth time, Hatton said “Not at all. I think the writing is on the wall in a sense, not the last fight with Marquez but the previous fight, he had that. Then he fought Bradley, which I thought he won but he didn’t look great, and Marquez isn’t a puncher; he’s a technician.”

Hatton: Marquez didn’t knock Pacquiao out with a lucky punch

marquez9025By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton doesn’t believe that Juan Manuel Marquez’s 6th round knockout win over Manny Pacquiao last Saturday night was the result of Marquez somehow getting lucky and landing a homerun right hand on the chin of the Filipino. Hatton saw it as pure skill on Marquez’s part that propelled him to victory by hitting a wide open Pacquiao when he forgot his defense and didn’t realize he was in with a highly skilled professional.

Hatton said to Philstar.com “I was surprised how big [Marquez] was. He was extremely big. I don’t think it was a lucky punch that hit Manny. Marquez waited for his chance. It was a perfect punch. Manny got careless coming in and Marquez took advantage of the opportunity.”

The Mayweather Effect

Image: The Mayweather EffectBy Paul Walsh: I remember watching an interview with Floyd Mayweather some time ago and he said something which has stuck with me ever since, “Once I beat a fighter they are never the same, mentally and physically”.  At the time I didn’t know what but after watching Cotto and Hatton fights recently it suddenly reemerged to the surface.

Let’s look at the facts and check the current status of Mayweather’s last 6 opponents;

Hatton: Pacquiao should retire

Image: Hatton: Pacquiao should retireBy Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton believes it’s time for Manny Pacquiao to call it a day after getting starched in the 6th round by Juan Manuel Marquez last weekend. Hatton, 34, feels that the Filipino doesn’t have anything to prove and he’d be better off retiring from boxing rather than continuing with his sagging career.

Pacquiao has lost his last two fights, and really you can say he’s lost his last three fights because Marquez clearly beat the Filipino last year in November.

Malignaggi: I would have beaten Hatton; I’m better than him

Image: Malignaggi: I would have beaten Hatton; I'm better than himBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s hilarious to see how WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignggi has suddenly reversed course on building up Ricky Hatton following Hatton’s loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko last Saturday night and then his subsequent retirement from boxing.

The loss and the retirement removed any hope of a Malignaggi vs. Hatton rematch, and it looks like Malignaggi doesn’t seem to be happy about not getting the fight. Before Hatton’s loss, Malignaggi has been saying nothing but good things about him. Boy, things sure have changed now that Hatton has retired.
