Ricky Burns not worried about Relikh’s power

1-burns

By Scott Gilfoid: Kiryl Relikh (21-0, 19 KOs) has got the most impressive knockout percentage of any opponent Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) has ever faced before in his career, but he’s not worried about his power. The two fighters will be facing each other on Friday night at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Burns, 33, will be defending his WBA World light welterweight title for the first time. Burns is expected to be able to successfully defend his belt. The reason for that is Relikh doesn’t have the experience to fighting for a world title, even against an aging fighter like Burns, who clearly has seen better days in his career.

Relikh emulating Golovkin for Burns fight

relikh

By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated #1 WBA Kiryl Relikh (21-0, 19 KOs) plans on taking the fight to WBA World light welterweight champion Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) this Friday night on October 7 in the same way that middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin does to his opponents by turning the fight into a real war.

Relikh, who comes from Belarus and is trained by former two division world champion Ricky Hatton, is a vicious body puncher in the Golovkin mold. Hatton has turned the Eastern European Relikh into a body puncher similar to how Golovkin was transformed into a dangerous body puncher when he teamed up with trainer Abel Sanchez.

Burns-Relikh = 50-50 fight

By Scott Gilfoid: There will be a lot on the line for WBA “regular” light welterweight champion Ricky Burns this Friday night in his title defense against Kiryl Relikh (21-0, 19 KOs) at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. Burns wants to keep his WBA title 140lb title as long as he can.

It’s important that Burns wins so that he can meet up with Adrien “The Problem” Broner in a big payday fight in 2017. Broner wants the fight, and Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn is chomping at the bit to try and make the fight happen between Burns and Broner.

This is Burns’ first defense of his WBA title after he beat Michele Di Rocco earlier this year by an 8th round knockout. Relikh is rated No.1 like Di Ricco was, but he appears to be a better fighter with more pop in his punches.

Ricky Burns vs. Adrien Broner possible for December

Omar Figueroa vs Ricky Burns

By Scott Gilfoid: If WBA light welterweight champion Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) wins his fight next week against unbeaten #1 WBO Kiryl Relikh (21-0, 19 KOs) on October 7, a fight between Burns and former four division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) is in the pipeline for December, according to news from Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn. Hearn wanted to make the Burns-Broner fight happen already, but with Broner’s recent legal problems in Cincinnati, Ohio, he decided to have Burns fight the unbeaten Relikh on October 7 at The SSE Hydro, in Glasgow, Scotland.

This is a fight that Burns is expected to win, as Relikh is yet another one of those fighters that is ranked HIGHLY by the World Boxing Association without him having ever shown the kind of talent that is deserving of him being ranked at No.1.

Adrien Broner vs. Ricky Burns possible if Ricky beats Relikh

burns200

By Scott Gilfoid: If WBA World light welterweight champion Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) can get past his dangerous mandatory challenger Kiryl Relikh (21-0, 19 KOs) in their fight next month on October 7, then a fight between Burns and former four division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) is possible in December in the United States.

Broner, 27, recently sent a Tweet of encouragement to the 33-year-old Burns, saying “Go out and get the job done and then me and him are going at it,” about his upcoming fight against the hard hitting 26-year-old Relikh for their fight at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. Burns doesn’t want to look past the fighter from Belarus Relikh, because he realizes how tough this fight potentially will be.

Burns has turned his sagging career around in his last three fights against Michele Di Rocco, Josh King and Prince Ofotsu in winning all three fights to capture the vacant WBA 140lb title.

Ricky Burns vs. Kiryl Relikh on October 7

Image: Ricky Burns vs. Kiryl Relikh on October 7

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light welterweight champion Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) will be making his first defense of his World Boxing Association against his #1 WBA mandatory challenger Kiryl Relikh (21-0, 19 KOs) on October 7 at The SSE Hydro, in Glasgow, Scotland.

This is going to be a really tough fight for the 33-year-old Burns, because Relikh is a real talent from Belarus with a lot of punching power and youth. Relikh is only 26, and he’s knocked out his last 11 opponents over a four-year time span. I see Relikh as the 140lb division’s version of Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, but he’s a heck of a lot younger than him.

WBA gives Ricky Burns 30 days to negotiate with Relikh Kiryl

burns864

By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Association has reportedly given newly crowned WBA World light welterweight champion Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs( 30 days to negotiate with his unbeaten and highly talented #1 WBA mandatory challenger Relikh Kiryl (21-0, 19 KOs) for a title defense. It’ll go to a purse bid of Burns and Kiryl’s management are unable to reach a deal to arrange a fight between them.

This is obviously bad luck for Burns to have a guy as dangerous as the 26-year-old Kiryl as his mandatory challenger for his first defense. Burns recently captured the vacant WBA 140lb title last May in stopping Michele Di Rocco in the 8th round in Glasgow, Scotland.

Burns interested in Crawford, Zlaticanin, Molina & Provodnikov fights

burns864

By Scott Gilfoid: It appears that the recent victory by Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) over an over-matched Michele Di Rocco (40-2-1, 18 KOs) last May seems to have knocked some ideas into his head, because he’s now saying he would like to fight the likes of Terence Crawford, Dejan Zlaticanin, John Molina and Ruslan Provodnikov for his next fight.

Burns, 33, knocked out Di Rocco in the 8th round on May 28th to capture the vacant WBA World light welterweight title in Glasgow, Scotland. The victory by Burns has some of his boxing fans thinking he’s rejuvenated him after his previous losses to Zlaticanin, Crawford and Omar Figueroa, as well as the fight he should have lost to Raymundo Beltran. However, you can’t tell whether Burns has improved in his last three fights because he’s faced very, very poor opposition in Di Rocco, Prince Ofotsu and Josh King.

By Scott Gilfoid: The recently knocked out Ashley Theophane (39-7-1-KO11) says he wants to face new WBA light welterweight champion Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) because he feels he would make for a good opponent for him. Burn won the vacant WBA light welterweight title last Saturday night in stopping Michele Di Rocco in the 8th round at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

Theophane, 35, was once a sparring partner for Burns, and he feels that he gave him problems during his sparring session. Theophane believes that he’s got the talent to defeat the 33-year-old Burns and take his WBA title from him.

Hearn: Burns would face Broner in U.S

burns864

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says his fighter Ricky Burns (40-5-1, 14 KOs) would be open to traveling to the United States to face former four division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner in order to get the fight.

Hearn is very interested in making that fight happen. Hearn says Broner’s management sent a congratulations message to him and Burns, and he sees this as a sign that they’ll be looking to contact them in the near future to start negotiations.
