De La Hoya: People think Mayweather Jr. will get beat by Canelo

Oscar de la Hoya claims ‘The One’ has become the richest fight in history because people want to see Floyd Mayweather finally lose.

De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions have put together Saturday’s £150 million Las Vegas scrap when Mayweather challenges WBA super and WBC light-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

The financial records set when De la Hoya was outpointed by Mayweather in 2007 will be shattered in the fight being screened live in the UK on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).

De la Hoya, the GBP President has never been close to Mayweather despite his organisation’s involvement in making him the world’s highest earning sportsman in 2012 and almost certainly this year.

There is no blueprint to beat Mayweather Jr.

floyd8 (2)By Mr. Pennington: First I would like to start by saying this has been a refreshing experience as a fight fan. I haven’t watched any of the behind the scenes footage such as All Access since Floyd Mayweather versus Ricky Hatton. So for boxing to once again have the power to sit me down in time to watch guys punch bags is very exciting. With the fight only eleven days away, I thought it would be smooth sailing from now until fight night.

Every aspect of the fight has been talked about to the point on redundancy, by now we all know, Mayweather can’t hurt Canelo, and Canelo is flat footed. But just when I thought the coast was clear, the golden boy himself comes out and makes comments that I found very interesting. “I have unlocked the vault and given Canelo the blueprint to defeat Mayweather”.

De La Hoya: Canelo will be the new Rooster on September 14th

canelo00By Dan Ambrose: Boxing great Oscar De La Hoya has his mind made up about his fighter WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) beating the best fighter in the world in Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) on September 14th, and proving that he’s the new Golden Goose or as De La Hoya says, “the new rooster.”

Given the money that Canelo stands to make during his career for himself and Golden Boy Promotions, I like the name that Austin Trout came up with, “Golden Goose” for Canelo a lot better. Regardless of how badly Mayweather beats Canelo on September 14th, Canelo will be laying golden eggs for many years to come for Golden Boy and himself.

De La Hoya: Canelo has the talent to be the best ever

can44444By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya thinks his red-headed fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) not only has the talent to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s), but also to be the best fighter ever in the sport. That’s a pretty tall order for the young 23-year-old Canelo, because his last win over Austin Trout was underwhelming to say the least, and certainly not what you’d see from the best ever.

De La Hoya thinks the flat-footed Canelo has the ability to be better than any fighter that ever breathed. If that’s to be the case, Canelo is going to have to improve 110% because he doesn’t look like even the best fighter in the junior middleweight division.

De La Hoya: My fighter [Canelo] is going to kick Mayweather’s a**!

can555By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions sees his fighter WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) handing unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) his first loss of his career on September 14th in their fight on Showtime pay per view.

De La Hoya thinks he’s got the younger, stronger, smarter and more talented fighter in 23-year-old Canelo, and he expects him to beat Mayweather Jr. soundly in front of a nationwide audience. De La Hoya sees this as the beginning of big things for the junior middleweight, which Golden Boy tends to match up against a lot of welterweights.

De La Hoya: Canelo must force Mayweather to fight more

can443433123513(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions believes the key to his fighter WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) is to outwork him by forcing him to fight hard for three minutes of every round.

De La Hoya is convinced that Mayweather fights hard for less than one minute of every round, and he believes that this is the key to his red-haired fighter Canelo to beat Mayweather by simply throwing a lot of punches to force Mayweather into using up energy.

Mayweather-Canelo, “The One” – My prediction

floyd#001By Paul Walsh: When the announcement was made for Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez I couldn’t contain my excitement.  Finally a fight the fans want to see.  The two biggest and best names in the sport putting their unbeaten records on the line for the coveted crown of pound for pound king.  It has all the makings of a classic.

Many of you did not expect Mayweather to take this fight so soon into his 6 fight deal with CBS as he has a reputation of “ducking” opponents, case in point would be Manny Pacquiao.  Mayweather however would argue that he made the right decision based on Pacquiao’s last two outings but no one can say the same about this fight with Canelo.

Mayweather fires a salvo at Canelo and De La Hoya at Los Angeles press conference

By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. took off the gloves on Tuesday at the Los Angeles press conference with WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. This press conference was a complete departure for Mayweather because he’d been playing it nice in the other 10 cities on the tour, but he decided to lay into Canelo about him being a star before having proven himself worthy of that status.

De La Hoya: I am convinced Canelo will beat Mayweather

Canelo autographing(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions finally came off the fence in the Floyd Mayeather Jr. – Saul “Canelo” Alvarez press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday by predicting that the 22-year-old Canelo will beat Mayweather on September 14th in their fight on pay per view from Las Vegas, Nevada.

De La Hoya said “I am convinced Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will win on September 14th.”

This announcement was met with a lot of cheers from Canelo’s fans, and naturally a lot of boos from Mayweather’s fans. Mayweather Jr. smiled at this time and did a few shoulder rolls as if blocking shots from Canelo. Mayweather’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe also seemed amused by it.

De La Hoya: Mayweather isn’t invincible; Canelo could dethrone him

de la hoya2By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions isn’t coming right out and tipping his fighter WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) on September 14th, but he sure is dropping a lot of hints about who he’s favoring in this fight.

A Canelo victory over Mayweather Jr. would be HUGE for Golden Boy, because it would give them a young fighter that they could turn into pay per view riches for the next 10 years before the competition catches up to him, making it too hard to maneuver him without him suffering defeats left and right.
