De La Hoya thinks the fight will bring in no less than 1.5 million pay-per-view buys for the fight, which sells for $59.99 on HBO.

De La Hoya: How long can Cotto stay on his toes?

1-cotto-canelo-m (7)By Dan Ambrose: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya expects WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 40 KOs) to be on his toes in their fight on November 21st on HBO PPV. De La Hoya believes that Cotto will be boxing, moving and trying not to get hit by the heavier 25-year-old Canelo.

However, De La Hoya has extreme doubts whether Cotto will be able to continue to stay on his toes for the full 12 rounds without tiring at some point. De La Hoya feels that once Cotto tires, Canelo will be able to jump on him to start using his size advantage against the lighter fighter.

De La Hoya: The best is yet to come for Canelo Alvarez

delahoya1By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) participated in his media day in San Diego House of Boxing gym. Canelo, 25, is getting ready for his HBO PPV fight against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) this month on 11/21 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo’s longtime promoter Oscar De La Hoya believes that he’s going to find success in this fight, and that this is only the beginning for his fighter. De La Hoya believes that Canelo is on his way to becoming a huge star, especially now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is no longer around to hog the limelight.

De La Hoya: If Deontay gets hit by Luis Ortiz, he’s not getting up

1-OrtizVidondo_Hoganphotos2By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya thinks that his fighter WBA interim heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) would flatten the talented WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) with a shot and that he wouldn’t be able to get up from the punch when/if the two large heavyweights fight in the future. And get this get; De La Hoya believes that Wilder would never even agree to fight the Cuban Ortiz in the future, as he’s someone that Wilder would choose to steer his career around.

Right now, the 6’4” Ortiz, who De La Hoya says is 33 rather than his listed age of 36, is traveling in a different path with Wilder. Ortiz is the interim WBA champion and is looking to get a title shot against either Wladimir Klitschko or Ruslan Chagaev.

Wilder and Ortiz can only fight now if Ortiz is able to beat Chagaev or Wladimir to pick up one or more of the world titles. Until then, there’s no point in Wilder facing the aging Ortiz, who looks to me to be a lot older than his listed age of 36.

De La Hoya: Golovkin vs. Canelo will eventually happen

1-GolovkinLemieux_Hoganphotos2By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya gave a big hint last night that we could be seeing his fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) dodging a unification fight against IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) if Canelo defeats WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) in their fight next month on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

De La Hoya said last night that the Golovkin-Canelo fight will happen sooner or later. This could be code for Canelo not facing Golovkin for some time, possibly two to three years.

“Absolutely, it’s a fight [Golovkin vs. Canelo] that should be made,” De La Hoya said to secondsout. “Eventually it’s going to happen. Golovkin won hands down, and I take my hat off to him, but it’s raw power. You’re talking about a fighter who has fought a lot of fighters with a lot of styles. There’s a lot of vulnerability there. So a Canelo fight against Golovkin, it has to happen.”

De La Hoya: Golovkin-Lemieux will be bombs away

1-golovkin (9)By Tim Fletcher: Promoter Oscar De La Hoya expects there to be a lot of huge bombs going off 10 days from now in the Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux fight on HBO pay per view on October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The two middleweight champions will be putting up their world titles on the line for the fight, and matching each other punch for punch in what many boxing fans see as a potential candidate for fight of the year. De La Hoya needs the 26-year-old Lemieux to win this fight because he’s one of Golden Boy’s future stars.

Lemieux will KO Golovkin, says De La Hoya

1-LemieuxWorkout4Golovkin_Hoganphotos1By Dan Ambrose: Fans don’t know exactly what to expect in the unification fight between IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) and IBF champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) this month on October 17th on HBO pay-per-view, but Lemieux’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya feels pretty confident about the 26-year-old Lemieux’s chances of winning this fight at Madison Square Garden, in New York.

De La Hoya says he wouldn’t have wanted Lemieux to face Golovkin a year ago because he felt he wasn’t ready back then. But now that he has wins over Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, Gabriel Rosado and Fernando Guerrero under his belt, De La Hoya now feels that Lemieux is ready to go into Madison Square Garden and take Golovkin’s scalp and bring his IBO and WBA 160lb titles back to Canada with him.

This expert advice that De La Hoya and Hopkins could prove valuable for the 26-year-old Lemieux, or it could be a total waste of time. We do know that De La Hoya has given his fighters advice in the past, and it’s not helped them.

De La Hoya: Matthysse must impress against Postol to get Pacquiao

1-edit10By Dan Ambrose: If #2 WBC Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) defeats #1 WBC Viktor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) in an impressive fashion in their fight for the vacant WBA light welterweight title this Saturday night, Matthysse could wind up facing Manny Pacquiao in 2016, according to Matthysse’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions.

De La Hoya thinks that a fight for Matthysse against Pacquiao is definitely possible if Matthysse looks really good in beating the tall 5’11” Postol this Saturday night on October 3rd on HBO Championship Boxing from the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Lemieux will shock the world against Golovkin, says De La Hoya

delahoya3By Dan Ambrose: It’s generally understood by all that IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) is the underdog in his fight against IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in their unification fight this month on HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Golovkin has the superior experience, punching power, amateur pedigree and talent going into this fight. Golovkin is in the prime of his career; whereas Lemieux is still not quite gotten to the top of his game yet. However, Lemieux’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions expects Lemieux to shock the boxing world with what he brings to the table in this fight on 10/17.
