Odlanier Solis: Larsen hit me with some of the hardest punches I’ve been hit with

solis111By Allan Fox: IBF Inter-Continental heavyweight champion Odlanier Solis (19-1, 12 KO’s) came out on top on Friday night in defeating the 6’4”, 275 pound Leif Larsen (17-1, 14 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Universal Hall, in Berlin, Germany. Although Solis won the fight by the scores of 116-112, 115-114 and 117-111, he came away from the fight with a lot of respect for the power and the chin of the 37-year-old Larsen.

Solis said afterwards “He hit me with some of the hardest hands that ever hit me.”

Solis’ face showed the effects of Larsen’s hard punches after the fight with right eye swollen up.

Solis defeats Larsen; Aydin beats Lauri; Chagaev destroys Sheppard

solis33By Jim Dower: Looking a slimmer than usual, IBF Inter-Continental heavyweight champion Odlanier Solis (19-1, 12 KO’s) put in a workmanlike performance tonight in defeating the raw but powerful Leif Larsen (17-1, 14 KO’s) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision at the Universal Hall in Berlin, Germany.

The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 115-114, 117-111. Solis did his best work in the first six rounds, showing good hand speed, but limited power. In the second half of the fight, Solis seemed to tire and he ended up looking really sloppy in his performance.

Odlanier Solis vs. Leif Larsen on March 22nd in Berlin Germany

solis3444545By Scott Gilfoid: 32-year-old Cuban heavyweight Odlanier Solis (18-1, 12 KO’s) returns to the ring on March 22nd against the hard hitting unbeaten prospect/project Leif Larsen (17-0, 14 KO’s) at the Universal Hall in Berlin, Germany. Solis is currently the IBF Inter-Continental heavyweight champion, so he’ll have that little known strap on the line for his fight against the 6’4” Larsen.

Larsen, 37, previously played in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills in 2000 and 2001 as a defensive tackle. He also played college football at the University of Texas-El Paso. Larsen is getting up there in age, but he’s still a really big puncher. That’s the whole attraction about the guy. Larsen is terribly flawed in terms of boxing skills, but he’s got very real power, and if he’s able to connect with his big power shots against Solis, we could see a knockout.

Fury to Wladimir: If you fight Solis then you’re a P***y! Fight me!

fury5445By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like British heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) is up in arms at the thought that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 50 KO’s) may pass him over on April 6th and instead fight former 2004 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist Odlanier Solis (18-1, 12 KO’s) instead. #4 WBC Fury feels it should be him that gets the crack at Wladimir on May 6th, and not the #11 IBF Solis.

Fury said on his twitter “Klitschko, if you fight Solis you’re a p***y! Fight me! Solis is a fat S***. [He] got KO’d by Vitali in 2.”

Here’s the deal, Fury. It’s not about how badly you want the fight or how much higher you’re ranked than the talented Solis. It’s about putting backsides in the seats in Germany. Wladimir wants to sell out a stadium in Germany, and he probably won’t be able to do that if he chooses you because you’re just not well known in Germany like Solis is, get it? The fact of the matter is Solis has already fought in Germany 10 times during his pro career and the German fans love him to death.

Adamek won’t be fighting Solis on December 22nd

Image: Adamek won't be fighting Solis on December 22ndBy Allan Fox: The previously scheduled December 22nd fight between heavyweight contenders Tomasz Adamek (47-2, 29 KO’s) and Odlanier Solis (18-1, 12 KO’s) won’t be happening after all, according to fightnews.com. Neither fighter even signed contracts for the fight, and it’s unclear what happened to keep the fight from moving ahead.

Adamek, 35, still plans on fighting on December 22nd and his management are tying to find an adequate replacement opponent. Obviously, this will hurt Adamek if he can’t get a heavyweight contender on par with Solis because his goal is to get a title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers as fast as possible, and the only way Adamek can do that is if he keeps fighting well known contenders.

Odlanier Solis vs. Tomasz Adamek on December 22nd

Image: Odlanier Solis vs. Tomasz Adamek on December 22ndlan Fox: IBF North American heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek (47-2, 29 KO’s) will be fighting Cuban Odlanier Solis (18-1, 12 KO’s) on December 22nd at the Sands Casino Resort, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, United States, according to Boxingnews.com.ua. The Adamek-Solis fight still might not happen unless the 32-year-old Solis wins his October 12th fight next month against the hard hitting Leif Larsen (16-0, 13 KO’s) in their scheduled 10 round fight at the Madrid Arena, Madrid, Comunidad de Madrid.

That could potentially be a very tough fight for Solis for four of five rounds before Larsen gasses out. Solis might win the fight, but end up getting cut or injured in some way because Larsen is very strong. Solis is leagues ahead of him in experience both at the amateur and professional level.

Image: Tomasz Adamek vs. Odlanier Solis possible for December 22nd on NBCBy Eric Thomas: A fight between former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek (47-2, 29 KO’s) and former 2004 Olympic gold medalist for Cuba Odlanier Solis (18-1, 12 KO’s) is possible for December 22nd on NBC in New Jersey, according to Steve Kim.

The 35-year-old Adamek, #4 IBF, #9 WBC and 32-year-old Solis, #5 IBF, #11 WBC, are within striking distance of a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, and perhaps the quickest way to get a shot in 2013 is for Adamek and Solis to fight one another.
