Image: Morel not interested in accepting Donaire's challenge – NewsBy Eric Thomas: World Boxing Organization bantamweight interim champion Eric Morel (42-2, 21 KO’s) has reportedly turned down the challenge of super flyweight Nonito Donaire (23-1, 15 KO’s) step in for the injured Jorge Arce, according to Philboxing.com. Apparently, the 27-year-old Donaire wants to avenge the defeat of his fellow Filipino countryman Gerry Penalosa, who was beaten by Morel in a 12 round split decision in February 2010.

Donaire should give Concepcion a rematch

Image: Donaire should give Concepcion a rematchBy Esteban Garduno: Instead of taking on another miniature fighter like Manuel Vargas or beatable opponent like Gerson Guerrero, Nonito Donaire (23-1, 15 KO’s) needs to give a rematch with super flyweight contender Rafael Concepcion (13-4-1, 8 KO’s). Donaire defeated Concepcion by a 12 round decision in August 2009, and looked horrible in doing so, taking a lot of punishment from Concepcion all the way through the fight. Donaire looked especially unimpressive in the last four rounds as he ran from Concepcion and looked to be just trying o survive the fight.

donaire4233By Manuel Perez: Nonito Donaire (22-1, 14 KO’s) is planning on moving up in weight after defeating Rafael Concepcion (13-4-1, 8 KO’s) on August 15th by a 12-round decision to capture the interim WBA World super flyweight title, according to the GMA News. Wladimir Fights Chagaev on Saturday – Does Anyone Care?

wladimir45342Photo courtesy of Klitschko.com – By Matt Stein: Another fight for Wladimir Klitschko against another opponent that hardly a soul cares about. In this case, Wladimir’s latest victim is Ruslan Chagaev, a heavyweight that has rarely found his way into a ring in the past two years due to one malady or another. It’s hard to believe that Klitschko, 33, has been a heavyweight champion of the IBF for the past three years because his fights and especially his opponents have been very forgettable.

Could Donaire Be an Even Bigger Star Than Pacquiao?

donaire3233By Dave Lahr: I don’t want to take anything away from the career of Manny Pacquiao, especially with him on the verge of fighting toughest bout of his career against Ricky Hatton on May 2nd, but I think that IBF flyweight champion Nonito Donaire (21-1, 14 KOs) has a good chance of becoming an even bigger star than Pacquiao. Donaire, 26, who already holds a 5th round knockout over arguably the best super flyweight in boxing in Vic Darchinyan, destroyed Raul Martinez (24-1, 14 KOs) in the 4th round on Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum, in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
