Nathan Cleverly to face Andrzej Fonfara in October

cleverly677By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says his fighter former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) will be taking on the dangerous #2 WBC, #3 WBA, #4 WBO, #6 IBF Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) in October at a venue and specific date still to be determined.

Hearn is currently working on lining up the 28-year-old Cleverly for a world title shot against WBA light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer. But before getting Cleverly the big title fight, he wanted to have him face a tough test in battling the Chicago-based Fonfara before that.

Nathan Cleverly wants Braehmer fight in September

cleverly567By Scott Gilfoid: After watching WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (46-2, 34 KOs) obliterate an over-matched and very, very limited Robin Krasniqi (43-4, 16 KOs) last Saturday night at the Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, former WBO 175lb champion Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14 KOs) says he wants to fight the 36-year-old Braehmer in September if he can get a fight against the Sauerland promoted German fighter.

Cleverly’s promoter Eddie Hearn would have to make the fight, and it remains to be seen whether he can do that.

Cleverly could face Braehmer-Krasniqi winner for WBA 175lb title

cleverly677By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14 KOs) could be getting the winner of this Saturday’s fight between WBA World light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer (45-2, 33 KOs) and Robin Krasniqi (43-3, 16 KOs), according to Sky Sports.

If the 28-year-old Cleverly can get past his still to be determined opponent next month on April 25th, he could then be leap-frogging over the top contenders in the light heavyweight division to take on the winner of the Braehmer-Krasniqi fight.

Nathan Cleverly to fight on April 25th at O2 in London, UK

cleverly777By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14 KOs) will be back at 175 for his next fight against an opponent still to be determined on April 25th at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Cleverly was going to be fighting on April 11th, but the date has moved forward for him to fight on the possible Evgeny Gradovich vs. Lee Selby card on April 25th. The card obviously needs as many names as possible for it to be a big success, so it makes sense for Cleverly to have been put there.

Cleverly moving down to 175, fighting on April 11th in Leeds

cleverly3By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight belt holder Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14 KOs) will be moving back down to the 175 pound division to pursue a title shot against WBA World light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer in the near future.

Cleverly attempted to give it a go in the cruiserweight division despite lacking the power to fight in that weight class. He fought exactly three times at cruiserweight, and was beaten recently by Tony Bellew by a 12 round split decision last November in their second fight together.

Hearn: Cleverly will be getting world title shot in 2015

cleverly6777By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says that #15 IBF fringe contender Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14 KOs) will be getting a world title shot in late 2015, possibly in September.

What’s so interesting about this is that Cleverly was recently beaten by Tony Bellew last year in November in a WBO cruiserweight title eliminator.

Bellew beat him by a 12 round split decision by the scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 115-115-114 for Cleverly. Bellew will be getting a title shot against WBO champion Marco Huck, and he’s obviously going to have a really tough time trying to win that fight.

British domestic clashes: ratings and predictions

cleverly333By Gav Duthie: There has been a domestic backlash in the UK to the decision to make the rematch between Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew a PPV event. This is the first Sky Sports pay event since Froch v Groves 2 last year but the success in this case looks to be well behind the former.

This article rates the three big domestic clashes we have before the end of the month, one on Sky and the other two on subscription only channel Box Nation. My 4 criteria for what made Froch-Groves 2 a successful PPV event are high fan popularity, world level impact, big grudge match and a good spectacle fight rating. I will rate the three upcoming bouts using the same criteria.
