Image: Cotto-Mayorga: Miguel to try and box Ricardo on 3/12By Dan Ambrose: Photo credit Chris Farina/Top Rank – WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) plans on trying to box 37-year-old challenger Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) on March 12th instead of going to war with him and risking suffering a cut or potentially a knockout loss when they go at it at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If Mayorga is in good shape, Cotto will lose this fight

Image: If Mayorga is in good shape, Cotto will lose this fightBy Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) has been through a lot of wars in the past four years, and he’s taken too much punishment for his own good. His promoter Bob Arum has been doing his best to keep Cotto winning, but it’s getting harder because he doesn’t seem to be the same fighter he once was in his prime. The beatings to Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao, plus the god awful punishment Cotto took in wins over Shane Mosley and Joshua Clottey has caused some deterioration in Cotto’s game.

Cotto-Mayorga: Ricardo’s knee won’t give out like Foreman’s. Miquel is in trouble

Image: Cotto-Mayorga: Ricardo's knee won't give out like Foreman's. Miquel is in troubleBy Dan Ambrose: It’s fair to say that Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) dodged a bullet in his last fight when WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman’s right knee gave out on him in the 7th round right when he was teeing off on Cotto and the fight was pretty much even. Had that injury not occurred, I think we would be talking about Foreman vs. Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) instead of Cotto.

Cotto vs. Mayorga: Will Miguel mentally quit if he’s cut to pieces by the 6th?

Image: Cotto vs. Mayorga: Will Miguel mentally quit if he's cut to pieces by the 6th?By Dan Ambrose: There’s no question that WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) took at least savage beatings in the past three years in his losses to Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao. Cotto, 30, also took terrible punishment in his fights with Joshua Clottey and Shane Mosley. Those fights seem to have taken something out of Cotto, because he appear to be the same fighter he once was regardless of the paper title that he’s in possession due to a win over one of his promoter Bob Arum’s fighters Yuri Foreman last year in June.

Mayorga says he’s going to knock Cotto out in the 4th, then go after Pacquiao

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) isn’t impressed in the least with his next opponent WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s), who Mayorga will be fighting on March 12th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 37-year-old Mayorga is seven years older than Cotto, but feels that his size, experience and power will be too much for the smaller 5’7″ Cotto.

If Cotto gets cut by Mayorga, he’ll lose – Prediction

By Dan Ambrose: I’m going to go out on the limb and make a prediction that WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will lose and lose badly to 37-year-old Ricardo Mayorga next month if Cotto gets cut at any point in the fight. It doesn’t matter how the cut occurs. Cotto will lose just the same, as long as the cut occurs above one of Cotto’s eyes. The reason I say this is because Cotto, unlike some fighters, tends to fall apart when he starts bleeding from cuts over his eyes.

Mayorga melting off the pounds, Cotto could be in trouble

By Dan Ambrose: Former two time world champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) is working feverishly in training camp, melting off lard to get ready to take on WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) on March 12th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayorga, who once had a slender, athletic physique, has put on a lot of weight in the past six years and hasn’t looked like the same fighter he once was back in the early 2000’s.

Cotto-Mayorga: Is this a mismatch or will Ricardo finish what Margarito started?

By Dan Ambrose: WBA Super World junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) is facing what in practical purposes figures to be a tune-up fight on March 12th against 37-yer-old Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) in their fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight is supposed to be a safe fight for Cotto against an old lion of the past. However, things may not work out as good as Bob Arum, Cotto’s promoter, is hoping it will.

Clottey vs. Green: Joshua sees action on Cotto-Mayorga undercard

By Jason Kim: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) will be getting back in the ring on March 12th against Calvin Green (21-5-1, 13 KO’s) in a 10 round bout on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Ricardo Mayorga fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Clottey, 33, will be moving up to junior middleweight for this fight and should in theory have more strength because of that. Clottey believes his power has disappeared because of the weight he has to take off each time he would fight at welterweight.
