Maidana hasn’t made decision about career yet

maidana8By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KO) says he still hasn’t made a decision about his career. He’s been out of the since September of 2014 after losing a second fight to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Maidana has put on a lot of weight since his second fight against Mayweather, and it’s unclear when/if Maidana will be returning to the ring to continue his career. His trainer Robert Garcia has talked recently of Maidana returning to the ring at some point, but his latest interview gives the appearance that Maidana isn’t sure whether he’ll continue fighting or not.

Marcos Maidana to fight in 2016

maidana578By Dan Ambrose: #3 WBA, #5 WBC welterweight contender Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) has decided not to fight for the remainder of 2015. The 32-year-old Maidana will be back inside the ring in 2016, possibly fighting at 154 rather than 147. Maidana, a two division world champion, reportedly wants to take it easy with his family in Argentina in 2015 instead of getting back into a grueling training camp.

Even if Maidana wanted to come back this year, it’s highly unlikely that he could do it unless he was willing to fight at middleweight or super middleweight. Maidana has looked really heavy since losing back to back fights to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2014. Maidana let his weight get out of control and looks to have ballooned up to near 200.

Maidana could be back in late 2015 if he loses weight, says Garcia

maidana45By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia is hoping that #2 WBC, #3 WBA welterweight contender Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) will be back in training camp late in 2015 to get ready to fight someone. Garcia says Maidana has put on a lot of weight since his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September, and says he’s got to take the weight off before he returns to the ring.

In a recent video of Maidana with Adrien Broner, Maidana looked like he was over 200lbs. Maidana is going to need to burn that fat off if he wants to be effective when he gets back in the ring. It wouldn’t work well if Maidana came back as a pudgy junior middleweight against guys like the 175+ Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Broner says he wants Khan, Garcia, Matthysse and Maidana after Porter fight

_MG_9447(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: Talented American Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) says he wanted to fight Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia and Marcos Maidana for his next fight, but only former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) would step up to the plate to face the hard hitting 25-year-old Broner for this fight.

Broner and Porter will be fighting in nine days from now at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Broner says once he takes care of business in beating Porter, he wants Khan, Matthysse, Garcia and Maidana for his next fight.

Maidana will need four to five months to lose weight before he fights next, says Robert Garcia

maidana6By Dan Ambrose: It’s going to take former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) a while before he’s ready to fight again, says his trainer Robert Garcia. With all the weight that Maidana has put on since his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their rematch in September of 2014, Maidana’s trainer Robert Garcia estimates that it’s going to take between 4 to 5 months for him to take it off during training camp before he’s ready to fight again.

If Maidana does fight near the end of the year, he would probably need to train at least until October or November to take off all the weight that he’s put on. In recent video of Maidana with Adrien Broner, Maidana looks to be in the neighborhood of 200 pounds, possibly a little heaver.

Maidana gave Mayweather a tougher fight than Pacquiao did

1-04-3By Dan Ambrose: After watching Manny Pacquiao’s performance last night in losing to WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) in their “Fight of the Century” clash in Las Vegas, I think it’s safe to say that Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) gave a much tougher fight to Mayweather in both of their fights compared to what we saw from Pacquiao.

I think there’s no comparison. Maidana a lot stronger, more rugged, harder punching, bigger and much tougher than Pacquiao was. Besides that, Maidana looked a lot more courageous as well, as he wasn’t afraid to take shots like what we saw from Pacquiao last night.

Maidana picks Mayweather to defeat Pacquiao

maidana8By Dan Ambrose: Argentinian knockout artist Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) is picking WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) to defeat WBO welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) in their fight this Saturday.

Maidana likes Mayweather’s hand speed and intelligence as being factors in him beating Pacquiao. Maidana sees Mayweather as being the smarter fighter compared to the 36-year-old Pacquiao, and he also doesn’t think Pacquiao has looked that great lately despite the fact that he’s won his last three fights against Chris Algieri, Tim Bradley and Brandon Rios.

Ortiz, still young at just 28, has fought only three times since the Mayweather fight, and has lost two of those three fights. Ortiz did win his last bout against Manuel Perez by a 3rd round stoppage, but Ortiz suffered a hand injury that fight that required surgery to repair the problem.

maidana44444By Dan Ambrose: #3 WBA, #3 WBC welterweight contender Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) will be back in action in the fall against an opponent still to be determined.

Maidana wants to face WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) when he finally moves up in weight to the welterweight division, but Maidana’s manager Sebastian Contursi doubts that Garcia will take the fight after how badly he struggled against Lamont Peterson in their fight this month.
