Marcos Maidana retires from boxing

By Dan Ambrose: Marcos “Chino” Maidana has announced his official retirement from boxing as of Tuesday, according to ESPN. The 35-year-old Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) hadn’t fought in almost two years since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. by a 12 round unanimous decision in September 2014.

Maidana made a lot of money in his two fights against Mayweather, and he didn’t need to continue his boxing career after those two fights. Additionally, had Maidana chose to continue fighting, he likely wouldn’t have made the same kind of money that he’s gotten in the Mayweather fights.

There’s a chance that Maidana could have made good money for fights against the likes of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, but he would have been giving away a lot of weight against him.

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) reportedly is interested in making a comeback to the sport after having been out of the ring for nearly two years now. According to Fighthype.com, the 32-year-old Maidana will be meeting with his adviser Al Haymon and possibly starting training camp next month in August.

Get this: Maidana wants still wants to fight at welterweight. What makes that so hard to believe is the huge amount of weight that Maidana has put on since his last fight in September of 2014 against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Maidana has been said to have ballooned up to 190s. In photos of Maidana, he’s looked very heavy and looked nothing like the muscular fighter that gave Mayweather so many problems.

If Maidana can get back down to 147, it’s going to take a tremendous effort on his part to trim off the weight without weakening himself to the point where he’s no longer a top level fighter.

Maidana’s heart isn’t into fighting, says Robert G

maidana578By Dan Ambrose: After seeing a photo of a bloated looking former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) on the internet, his former trainer Robert Garcia said that he doesn’t think Maidana’s heart is into fighting anymore at this point of his career.

The 32-year-old Maidana has not fought since losing a 12 round unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their rematch in September 2014. Maidana received good money for his two fights with Mayweather, and he doesn’t need to continue fighting like other fighters that haven’t been fortunate enough to fight someone like Mayweather.

“I know for a fact he doesn’t really want to do it [fight],” Garcia said via RingTV.com. “His heart isn’t in it.
