Barrera and Morales, Who Ranks Higher?

morales453434By Bal Kang: Sometimes the winner of a trilogy between two fighters doesn’t necessarily put him above the loser in an all time rankings list. Marco Antonio Barrera ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’ and Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales gave us some of the most memorable moments in modern day boxing history. As you all will be aware they fought three times with Barrera taking the trilogy 2-1.

Should Khan Have Given Barrera a Rematch?

khan523490By Sean McDaniel: Yesterday, the British Boxing Board of Control and the WBO ruled that the results of March 14th bout between lightweights Amir Khan vs. Marco Antonio Barrera stands, which saw Khan win the fight by a 5th round technical decision. Barrera, 35, was cut high on his scalp near his hairline in the 1st round of the bout by a head butt.

Will Khan Give Barrera a Rematch? Don’t Bet on it!

khan3233524By Chris Williams: Lightweight Amir Khan’s (20-1, 15 KOs) 5th round stoppage victory over former boxing great Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KOs) on March 14th at the M.E.N Arena on March 14 in Manchester, England, is looking more and more tainted by the day. Though Khan won apparently in a convincing manner, Barrera was hampered by a big cut on his left portion of his scalp that occurred with one minute to go in the 1st round against Khan.

Barrera-Khan: Should It Have Been Stopped Earlier?

barrera2762By Jim Dower: In looking back at least week’s lightweight clash between Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KOs) and Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KOs) at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, it seems more than a little unfair to Barrera that the fight wasn’t stopped in the first two rounds after a huge cut was opened up above Barrera’s left eye from a head clash late in the 1st round.

Barrera: Lights Out For a Legend?

barrera534434By Zubair Ali: Mexico is a most proud nation with boxers seemingly born to fight. Marco Antonio Barrera is just one of many legendary fighters to have emerged from the country such as Salvador Sanchez, Ruben Olivares, Ricardo Lopez and of course the amazing Julio Cesar Chavez. As an amateur, Barrera amassed an impressive record of 104-4 and was a 5 time Mexican national champion. Barrera made his professional debut at the age of 15 when knocking out David Felix in 2 rounds (the first of a 43 fight win streak).

What Next for Khan?

khan4345646By Zubair Ali: After his 5th round technical decision victory over modern day legend Marco Antonio Barrera, Amir Khan catapulted himself onto the world stage. In a fight that many believed was a genuine 50-50, Khan produced an exceptional performance against the ageing Barrera. Khan dominated from the opening bell, with a clash of heads causing a horrific cut on Barrera’s head in the opening round.

Khan To Challenge for WBO Title in 2009 – News

khan433By Nate Anderson: On the latest installment of the Steve Bunce’s Boxing Hour show, promoter Frank Warren said that due to Amir Khan’s win over number #1 ranked WBO lightweight contender Marco Antonio Barrera last Saturday night, Khan is in the position to fight for the WBO title later this year. Apparently, Warren originally had designs for Khan to face former WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell, but when he failed to make weight last month, and was subsequently stripped of his IBF/WBA/WBO titles, Warren had to look in a different direction for a fight for Khan.

As Soon as Khan Steps It Up Again, He Loses

khan44554By Scott Gilfoid: Maybe I’m one of the few writers that see Amir Khan’s (20-1, 16 KOs) 5th round stoppage win over the cut up Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KOs) as being an empty one, because the victory was an empty gesture. Khan was faster and better than Barrera, showing that he could beat Marco after he was cut from a head butt. Many people already though that Khan would be too fast for Barrera going into the fight and it was hardly revealing that he was able to dominate the smaller Barrera.
