Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Paquiao In The Making

pac4348By Sander Rennarb Aznarrac Jr. When Pound for Pound King Floyd Mayweather retired from boxing in 2007, an anticipated big fight with then unbeaten WBO titlist Miguel Cotto did not materialize. His successive wins against Oscar dela Hoya and Ricky Hatton may have warranted him a break from boxing that earned him fame and fortune. Some doubted his retirement as a decent way to dodge speculated challenge from formidable welterweights in Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, and Shane Mosley as front runners.

Pacquiao vs. Cotto: Will Miguel defeat Manny?

pacquiao3569By Manuel Perez: Manny Pacquiao is thinking he’s going to be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. sometime next year, but I think World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto may end up giving Pacquiao a bad beating and mess up his chance for a mega fight with Mayweather. Cotto, 28, will be facing Pacquiao on November 14th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao and Cotto will be fighting with Miguel’s WBO welterweight title on the line at a 145 pound catch weight.

Pacquiao vs. Cotto: Miguel Will Burst the Manny Mystique

pac2247By Manuel Perez: Manny Pacquiao has been largely lionized in the past year by the boxing public since beating Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. It’s sad that boxing fans have been so gullible as to be influenced by two pretty much empty wins as these when crowing Pacquiao as the top fighter in the sport. It’s actually sad when you think about it because it shows that fans don’t really have a great knowledge about the sport and can’t put wins in perspective.

The Weight Debate

pacquiao453434By Craig Martin: It’s the word that plays on every boxing fan’s mind now. So much has been said recently I figured I’d throw in my two cents. Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez are just a few of the names that apply to this issue. Floyd has received a lot of criticism for fighting the smaller man but mustn’t forget that Mayweather himself has risen through the weight divisions himself to win titles.

Manny Pacquiao’s Legacy

pac4534By Samuel James: Manny Pacquiao’s Nov. 14 dethronement of Miguel Cotto of his WBO Welterweight title will not put a stop to his adventurism in scaling the weights. The Pacman has lots of interests outside the ring–like sports (basketball, golf, chess, billiards, darts), acting, music and politics. But all of his other interests have no historical significance. Boxing has brought him fame and fortune and his number one interest so that a win or loss against Cotto will only inspire him to go on.

Pacquiao getting new sparring partner Castillo

By Manuel Perez: Well, it looks like Manny Pacquiao’s loyal boxing fans spoke too soon when they started opening their yaps about Pacquiao dominating his sparring partners. In an article today from Abs-Cbs News, Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, said this: “He [Pacquiao] took some real hard shots,” during the sparring sessions with Shawn Porter and Urbano Antillon.

Is It Time For Pacquiao to Dump Roach?

By Chris Williams: With the latest hubbub made of Manny Pacquiao’s Canadian advisor Michel Loncz reportedly talking about cutting the salary of Pacquiao’s his trainer Freddie Roach, I think Loncz has a point. He’s paid to look after Pacquiao’s welfare and make sure that he’s getting the best deals and the most for his money. Naturally, he’s just doing what he is being paid to do to get Roach at a lower price. Frankly, if Pacquiao wanted to save a lot of money, he should look for another trainer entirely.

What will Pacquiao do if Cotto beats him?

pac544By Liam Santiago: On November 14th Manny Pacquiao will face the biggest test of his life. He will step up to face the huge punching warrior, Miguel Cotto. The Pacquiao camp seem to be looking past Cotto already. Already they are eyeing up a date to fight Floyd Mayweather. Do they believe Cotto poses no threat? The Puerto Rican star will not be weight drained and he certainly won’t have the disadvantage of having Mayweather Snr in his corner.

Pacquiao vs. Cotto: Will the Southpaw Jinx Strike Miguel?

cotto4532437By Giancarlo Malinconico: Freddie Roach’s latest studies of Miguel Cotto has led him to state, “He [Cotto] doesn’t fight southpaws really well.” Roach goes on to discuss how Cotto struggled against Zab Judah for much of the early part of their encounter before running out of steam. Roach contends that Pacquiao can do what Zab did in the early rounds for the entire twelve.
