2010 – Great Year of Boxing

Image: 2010 - Great Year of BoxingBy David Anderson: What seems to be the biggest upset for us boxing fans turned to be one of the most exciting year for boxing history. Late in 2009, rumors exist that a potential fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was set to happen on March 13, however due to some contract demands, the fight did not push thru. Instead Manny signed a fight with Joshua Clottey on the same fight date. Clottey, for some was virtually unknown. Many boxing fans did not know that Clottey exhibits one of the best defense and one of the toughest chin.

Image: Clottey: “I have everything to beat him” [Pacquiao]By Jason Kim: With few boxing fans giving him much of a chance to beat WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on March 13th, former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey remains confident that he has what it takes to beat Pacquiao. In article at Boxing Talk, Clottey says “I have a lot of things to beat Manny Pacquiao. I have my defense in there and I’m a strong welterweight. He’s [Pacquiao] fighting one of the best out there and I think I have enough to beat him.”

There’s No Other Way

Image: There's No Other WayBy Brian Kenneth Blackwell: I know that I am nowhere near even a “self—proclaimed” great amateur boxing writer, but even I have been questioning my absence from covering fights as of late. Do not assume that I have taken my eye off the ball in the past few months. I have been watching, and I have been taking notes. One thing that I have noticed in my own pattern of covering fights is that, like my own personality goes, I exert myself in writing 2 to 3 articles a week for a few months until I burn myself out to the point where one will not hear from me for at least 6 months. That pattern is on me.

Pacquiao vs. Clottey prediction: Look for Joshua to shock the world by stopping Manny

Image: Pacquiao vs. Clottey prediction: Look for Joshua to shock the world by stopping MannyBy Esteban Garduno: I hate to say this but I think Manny Pacquiao has finally met his match against 32-year-old Joshua Clottey. This is a case of Pacquiao facing someone too big, too strong and too skilled defensively for him to win. Think of Clottey as tank with heavy armor and Pacquiao as an infantry soldier with rifle, a knife and a shovel. With those crude tools, there’s no way that a soldier is going to be able to get through the armor of that tank without the use of a mine or rocket propelled firing weapon.

Mosley-Berto: Shane needs this win to get to Mayweather or Pacquiao

Image: Mosley-Berto: Shane needs this win to get to Mayweather or PacquiaoBy Jim Dower: At 38-years-old, this may be World Boxing Association welterweight champion Shane Mosley’s last chance to get a big money fight against either Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao. But for Mosley to get to a big money fight, he will have to get by WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (25-0, 19 KO’s), a fighter that is 12 years younger than Shane and who’s fought half as many pro fights during his young six year career.

Mosley, 38, has been in against the much better competition during his career, facing the likes of Winky Wright, Fernando Vargas, Oscar De La Hoya, Vernon Forrest, Ricardo Mayorga, Luis Collazo, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito and Raul Marquez.

How Mayweather leveled the playing field

Image: How Mayweather leveled the playing fieldBy Dezzie Lightbulb: Now that much of the dust has settled from the recent blow-up between Pacquiao and Mayweather, we can take the time to discuss what it was really all about. Mayweather said at the time that all he wanted was a level playing field, and hence the need for Olympic style blood testing to be carried out by the USADA. This, he claimed, would ensure that neither boxer would have any opportunity to use steroids, EPOs, PEDs, or HGH.

Image: Arum: “The fight [Mayweather-Pacquiao] will get made in two seconds if Mayweather comes to me and we talk”By Jason Kim: We might be finally seeing a softening of the stance from Top Rank’s promoter Bob Arum pertaining to a possible fight between World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten Floyd Mayweather. In an article at the Nydaily News, Arum says “The fight get made in two seconds if Mayweather comes to me and we talk.” However, Mayweather will likely still have to apologize to Pacquiao to get him to drop his defamation lawsuit. This is great news that Arum is still interested in putting this together. However, it’s unfortunately little late in the game now.
