Valero is the fighter to beat Pacquiao

Image: Valero is the fighter to beat PacquiaoBy Esteban Garduno: WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero (27-0, 27 KO’s) showed me that he’s the real deal in dispatching the tough Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17 KO’s) after 9 rounds Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. Valero reduced DeMarco, a big puncher in his own right, into a timid lamb as he clubbed him into quitting on his stool after the 9th round had ended. In that beating that Valero showed that he may be the next big boxing star in the sport and is ready for bigger hurdles like WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Image: Valero: "That's the fight [Pacquiao-Valero] the world wants to see"By Chris Williams: World Boxing Council lightweight champion Edwin Valero (27-0, 27 KO’s) looked superb on Saturday night taking out WBC lightweight interim champion Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17 KO’s) just after the 9th round had ended. A battered and tired DeMarco, 24, retired on his stool after the 9th round had ended. After the fight, Valero, speaking of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, said “That’s the fight the world wants to see.”

Roach: “Manny [Pacquiao] will be the bigger, stronger guy” [compared to Clottey]

By Dave Lahr: Trainer Freddie Roach made a shocking statement in an article at the Sports Editor, where he said I think when the fight [Pacquiao-Clottey] comes off, Manny will be the bigger, stronger guy.” What does that mean? Is Roach going to put Pacquiao on an extensive lifting and eating regimen so that he ends up bigger than Clottey? I can’t imagine how Pacquiao, with his teeny frame, is going to end up bigger than Clottey.

Has Pacquiao fought mostly shot fighters in the past three years?

Image: Has Pacquiao fought mostly shot fighters in the past three years?By Esteban Garduno: In looking over Manny Pacquiao’s resume in the past few years since 2007, an argument can be made that most of Pacquiao’s opponents in this time period have been pretty much shot for the most part. Let’s look at who Pacquiao has fought since 2007: Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto. Now obviously Diaz, 33, wasn’t a shot fighter at the time that Pacquiao chose to fight him in June 2008, but then again, few people considered Diaz, then the World Boxing Council lightweight champion, to be the best fighter in the lightweight division at the time that Pacquiao fought him.

Jackson: “Pacquiao is not a good inside fighter” – News

Image: Jackson: "Pacquiao is not a good inside fighter” - NewsBy Dave Lahr: Trainer and former fighter John David Jackson points out that World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has some flaws in his game in an article at Fight Hype, saying “Pacquiao is not a good inside fighter… and he also can’t fight off the ropes. Clottey has to capitalize on that. If he can do that, he can beat him.”

Jackson has a good point. Pacquiao isn’t a really great inside fighter. Pacquiao does most of his work at medium range. He likes to get in quick, landing a few punches and then get back on the outside to safety.

Is Khan the next Pacquiao?

Image: Is Khan the next Pacquiao?By William Mackay: Amir Khan is being groomed by Freddie Roach as the next big thing in boxing, and possibly the next Manny Pacquiao-type fighter. Khan has the hand speed, movement and youth going for him. He also has Golden Boy Promotions backing him, which is a good thing because it means that Khan will likely be able to fight on HBO every time out. Pacquiao is getting old and probably won’t be fighting more than a year or two more if that.

Roach: “He’s [Clottey] not going to be able to catch us” [Pacquiao]

Image: Roach: “He’s [Clottey] not going to be able to catch us” [Pacquiao]By Dave Lahr: Freddie Roach seems to have it all figured out already how his fighter World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is going to be able to beat 32-year-old challenger Joshua Clottey on March 13th in their fight at the Dallas Cowboy stadium. Roach, in an article at Abs-Cbn News and AOL Fanhouse, had this to say about the strategy for fighting Clottey: “Clottey’s accurate if you stand in front of him, but the thing is, we’re going to be in and out and side to side and use our angles on him… It’s going to be very similar to the Oscar de la Hoya fight, I feel.”

“Pacquiao will discover it’s difficult to find a rhythm when nothing’s landing”- Jim Watt on predicting Mayweather-Pacquiao

Image: “Pacquiao will discover it’s difficult to find a rhythm when nothing’s landing”- Jim Watt on predicting Mayweather-PacquiaoBy Peter Wells: I have just read the poll vote in Boxing Monthly’s latest magazine on who’ll win out of Pacquiao-Mayweather. In the end it was very surprising to see the final score but all 38 of the voters gave good reasons.

Carl Froch said that, “Floyd Mayweather beats him 10 times out of 10. He’s too technically proficient and his defensive skills and reflexes are too good”. He also added, “Mayweather’s the main man and, if I can get decent odds, I’ll bet my house on it”.
