Image: Mayweather says he plans on “taking a couple years off from boxing”By Sean McDaniel: Undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s) shockingly announced that he plans on taking a couple of years off from boxing in a June 2nd YouTube video taken of him in Las Vegas while visiting a cancer patient. Mayweather, 33, repeatedly said during the interview that he plans on taking a couple of years off from boxing. Initially, Mayweather was saying he taking “a year or two” off from boxing. However, as the interview progressed, Mayweather changed it to a “couple of years” away from the sport.

Mayweather Ducks Pacquiao: Floyd wants to take a year or two off?

Image: Mayweather Ducks Pacquiao: Floyd wants to take a year or two off?By Giancarlo Malinconico: Rather than face Manny Pacquiao in the biggest bout in boxing history later this year, Floyd Mayweather has decided to follow the old ninja motto: never take a battle unless you know you can win. In fact, I have written several articles on suspicion that Mayweather never truly intended to face the Pac Man. Upon his return to the sport of boxing in 2009, instead of waiting one more day for the Pacquiao and Rick Hatton match to occur, Mayweather announced his return against the much smaller Juan Manuel Marquez, who apparently “called him out,” and who was fighting two divisions from Mayweather’s weight class down at the lightweight limit.

Pacquiao wins Fighter of the Year award – What about Mayweather?

By Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao won his 3rd Fighter of the Year award on Friday night by the Boxing Writers Association of America at the Roosevelt Hotel. I don’t want to drizzle on Pacquiao’s parade, but why was he chosen rather than Floyd Mayweather Jr? I think Mayweather accomplished more in coming back from a two year retirement to easily defeat Juan Manuel Marquez compared to what Pacquiao accomplished.

Pacquiao-Mayweather: Two Roads to Greatness

Image: Pacquiao-Mayweather: Two Roads to GreatnessBy Ricardo Lucero: Excerpt from ABS-CBN – “According to a report by PhilBoxing.com’s Ronnie Nathanielsz, Frazier, known for his historic clashes with Muhammad Ali in the 1970’s, will attend the 85th Annual Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) awards night to personally hand the “Sugar Ray Robinson Fighter of the Year Award” to Pacquiao”.

Pacquiao’s road, like everyone knows, haven’t been easy. He was born in one of the poorest quarters in one of the poorest countries on earth. But Fate had been kind to him. From being discovered by Freddie Roach,to being in the undercard of a Tyson fight as a last minute replacement, where he got noted, to that fateful night in San Antonio,Texas, Manny Pacquiao has indeed come a long way.

Hoping Cotto loses to Foreman so we don’t have to see Cotto-Pacquiao II

Image: Hoping Cotto loses to Foreman so we don’t have to see Cotto-Pacquiao IIBy Chris Williams: If former WBO middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) beats World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) this Saturday night, it’s likely that the 29-year-old Cotto will be used as a substitute for Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he and Manny Pacquiao are unable to put a fight together for some reason. Cotto is a fine fighter, and had an excellent career, but I certainly don’t want to see him in a rematch with Pacquiao, not after seeing how badly Cotto was dominated in their fight last year.

Would Mayweather be crazy to accept a 50-50 deal and a 14 day blood test cut off for Pacquiao bout?

Image: Would Mayweather be crazy to accept a 50-50 deal and a 14 day blood test cut off for Pacquiao bout?By Dave Lahr: As much as I’d like to see the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao get made quickly without a lot of hassle and squabbling, I think Mayweather would be really selling himself short if he was to agree to the original 50-50 purse split offer for the Pacquiao fight. I also think Mayweather would be crazy if he were to give in and agree to accept a 14 day no drug testing cut off for Pacquiao.

Why Paul Williams, not Manny Pacquiao, should fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Image: Why Paul Williams, not Manny Pacquiao, should fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.By Muhammad Mushtaq: While the world awaits for the clash between WBO welterweight champion, Manny Pacquiao, and the pound-for-pound census number one, Floyd Mayweather Jr., many fans, like myself wonder why Paul Williams is not being considered as an opponent to Mayweather’s ranking. Many feel that “the most avoided boxer in the world” has the physical tools to bother a shorter boxer like Mayweather, and that his style can make it difficult for Mayweather to use his signature counter shots.

Other options for Mayweather if Pacquiao fight doesn’t take place

Image: Other options for Mayweather if Pacquiao fight doesn’t take placeBy Jason Kim:, Undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. has to start looking at alternative opponents to substitute in place of Manny Pacquiao if he’s unable to have his mega fight with the Filipino star put together in the near future. While the Pacquiao fight is the idea; bout because it’s the fight that fans want to see and the one that will make Mayweather the most money, he has to be realistic about this and consider that it may not be possible to put this fight together for one reason or another.

Will Cotto retire if he gets beaten by Foreman this Saturday?

Image: Will Cotto retire if he gets beaten by Foreman this Saturday?By Chris Williams: Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) has taken an extensive amount of punishment in a handful of fights in the past two years and there are some people who think that Cotto is a shot fighter. Cotto still has good power, jab and all around offensive skills, but like always, he’s lacking on defense. On Saturday night, the 29-year-old Cotto faces WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) at Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, New York.
