Will Pacquiao take on the Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez winner?

By Chris Williams: On November 20th, Paul Williams (39-1, 27 KO’s) and World Boxing Council middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (45-2-2, 24 KO’s) will be going at it for Martinez’s WBC title. A week earlier, Manny Pacquiao will be fighting for his 8th world title against Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title at the Cowboys Stadium. Since few people think Pacquiao is going to be satisfied with winning his 8th world title, there’s an excellent chance that Pacquiao is going to get greedy and try to collect an unheard of 9th world title in as many divisions.

Is Pacquiao getting old and starting to break down?

By Matt Stein: It was reported earlier today that Manny Pacquiao needed to be hospitalized for foot pain in an article at Abs-cbnnews. There was also talk of the pain possibly caused by arthritis of the foot. Pacquiao had blood taken and an MRI to try and determine the cause of the foot pain. But if it does turn out to be arthritis, this could be a sign that the 31-year-old Pacquiao is getting older and may need to slow things down or maybe even retire at some point.

Cotto to fight in March 2011, against either Pacquiao or Margarito

By Jason Kim: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto has decided not to fight for the remainder of the year because he wants to let his recently operated shoulder heal and also because there’s no big named opponents for him to fight at this time. Cotto was supposed to be fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on December 4th, but Chavez Jr. opted not to go along with his trainer Freddie Roach to the Philippines to start training Pacquiao. This in effect took a fight with Chavez Jr. off the table for Cotto.

Should Pacquiao’s catch weight title wins be considered exhibition bouts?

Image: Should Pacquiao’s catch weight title wins be considered exhibition bouts?By Chris Williams: Thus far, Manny Pacquiao has captured the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title at a catch weight of 145 instead of the full weight for the division of 147. Pacquiao is now about to fight for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title at another catch weight, without ever having fought at that weight, against Antonio Margarito on November 13th at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Margarito has fought only once at junior middleweight in the past six years. In other words, this is a fight for the vacant title with two guys that have either no experience or very little experience in this weight class.

Penalosa thinks Pacquiao will turn Margarito into a punching bag

Image: Penalosa thinks Pacquiao will turn Margarito into a punching bagBy Dave Lahr: Two time former world champion Gerry Penalosa feels pretty confident in Manny Pacquiao’s ability to get by Antonio Margarito on November 13th, saying in an article at Philstar.com, “It’s Manny’s time. He’s the world number #1 pound-for-pound fighter. Nobody can beat him in his division. The key is his quickness. I don’t think Margarito can touch him. He’s too slow for Manny. I’m not worried about his height. Manny has beaten fighters who were taller than him, like Oscar De La Hoya. Manny will turn Margarito into a punching bag.” It’s difficult to get anything from Pacquiao’s win over De La Hoya, because Oscar had starved himself in the process of boiling down to 147 to fight Pacquiao.

Are Pacquiao’s fans happy about Mayweather’s troubles?

Image: Are Pacquiao’s fans happy about Mayweather’s troubles?By Chris Williams: It seems like a lot of Manny Pacquiao’s diehard fans are really gloating over Floyd Mayweathers’ recent legal problems involving his ex-girlfriend. It seems kind of strange that these fans should be gloating when what this means is that a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather is much less likely to happen, especially if Mayweather has to do any time in confinement. It makes me wonder if these same Pacquiao fans are glad because they doubted that their man could beat Mayweather and with him off the table, they can assured that Pacquiao will be able to finish his career without suffering a humiliating one-sided 12 round loss to Mayweather.
