Should Pacquiao be given respect if he beats Margarito?

By Dan Ambrose: I’ve been looking at Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Antonio Margarito recently and not really understanding why Margarito was chosen to be put in with Pacquiao for the title instead of someone better. It looks funny to me for Pacquiao to be matched against a fighter that has fought only once at junior middleweight in six years.

Roach says Manny is back, promises a knockout over Margarito

Image: Roach says Manny is back, promises a knockout over MargaritoBy Chris Williams: Freddie Roach has suddenly changed his tune about his fighter Manny Pacquiao. Roach has been bellyaching for weeks about how awful Pacquiao has looked in training, but now suddenly Roach is barking a different number about his fighter, saying in an article at philstar.com “We [meaning Pacquiao] will knock this guy out, I promise you. I’m happy. Manny Pacquiao is back. Mentally, he is much more into the fight. He knows the game plan. He looks great in sparring.” This sounds really calculated on Roach’s part. Image: Miguel Cotto to be at ringside for Pacquiao-Margarito boutBy Dan Ambrose: World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) will be at ringside for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout on November 13th at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Cotto, 30, would like nothing better than to get a rematch against one or both of the fighters involved, since both Pacquiao and Margarito already stopped Cotto and gave him a terrible beating. By being at the Pacquiao-Margarito fight in ringside seats, Cotto can help try and bring interest in a rematch with one or both of the fighters.

Roach: “This will not be a difficult fight for us [Pacquiao]”

Image: Roach: "This will not be a difficult fight for us [Pacquiao]"By Chris Williams: Freddie Roach doesn’t see the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout as being a difficult one for Pacquiao, and thinks that Pacquiao has got too much skills for the taller 5’11” Margarito. Speaking in their recent press conference, Roach said the usual lines that he’s been saying for weeks. “The bigger he is the better it is for us. Size doesn’t win fights, skill does and we outweigh them in that department. This will not be a difficult fight for us.” That sounds nice when you first read it, but then when you wonder why Pacquiao hasn’t fought Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez, both around the same height as Margarito, you’re left with the impression that Roach is blowing smoke up people’s backsides with his comments about size not mattering.
