Margarito vs. Pacquiao: The reasons I won’t be watching

Image: Margarito vs. Pacquiao: The reasons I won't be watchingBy Ronald Peter: This Saturday I will be doing something out the ordinary by not purchasing the Margarito vs. Pacquiao fight. The reasons for this are many. Morals and ethics are two words that just don’t go along with the sport of boxing or at least not usually. Only in this great sport can a person be caught with a plaster type substance in their hand wraps and year later be in super fight with the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world. After the Joshua Clottey debacle I was really expecting Bob Arum to match Manny up with Floyd Mayweather or Juan Manuel Marquez, two fights fans actually want to see instead we get another Top Rank fighter and a disgraced one at that.

Boxing betting – Haye-Harrison, Pacquiao-Margarito: Giving the bookmakers a black eye

by Stuart Young: Some of you may, or may not, have noticed that I’ve been a bit quiet on the ol’ article writing of late. Although I can assure my loyal fans that I haven’t lost my passion for the premiere sport on the planet, been abducted by aliens or converted to the ‘dark side’ preferring to watch two men writhing around the floor semi-naked in a passionate embrace in a celebration of UFC’s finest fistic talents just yet, I’ve just been…. well y’know – just kinda busy.

To defeat Pacquiao, other fighters must start using new training techniques

Much has been written about the speed of Manny Pacquiao, sportswriters, boxers, and fight watchers state that he has the speed. Freddie Roach, Pacquiao and their group always say that they have the speed, but where did they get their speed, they refuse to say. They are trying to portray as if it is something that they are only able to attain and other people cannot attain it.

Arum says he needs 700,000 PPV buys for Pacquiao-Margarito bout to get a “Decent payday”

By Jason Kim: For Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito and company to do well in their mega fight this Saturday night, promoter Arum says the fight has to to at least 700,000 pay per view buys, according to the LA Times. This is the number that Pacquiao’s last fight against Joshua Clottey did in March, which was a big step down from the 1 million plus that Pacquiao’s fight with Miguel Cotto did last year.

Roach crowing about betting Pacquiao wins his 8th world title against Margarito

Image: Roach crowing about betting Pacquiao wins his 8th world title against MargaritoBy Dave Lahr: You can always count on Freddie Roach picking Manny Pacquiao to win all of his fights by knockout no matter who he’s facing. It’s like clockwork. There’s no guess to it. If Pacquiao is fighting, Roach is picking him by knockout. In this case, Roach is taking it to another level, saying to Philboxing.com “I am betting my house on Manny. And had I married and had children, I will also bet them that Manny will beat [Antonio] Margarito and etch his name in boxing history as the first man to win an eighth title in as many divisions.”

Pacquiao sees himself as the greatest fighter of all time

Image: Pacquiao sees himself as the greatest fighter of all timeBy Chris Williams: What happened to the modest Manny Pacquiao? Last night on ’60 Minutes’, when Pacquiao was asked by television interviewer Bob Simon who the greatest boxer of all time was, Pacquiao said “Including me?” Simon then gave him that option. Pacquiao then came back with “Of course me.” Okay, I understand how it’s good for fighters to have a strong self belief and all, but I don’t know how Pacquiao can see himself as the greatest fighter of all time if he’s taking on fighters at catch-weights for titles and not fighting them at the full weight.

Margarito’s high work rate = Kryptonite for Pacquiao

Image: Margarito's high work rate = Kryptonite for PacquiaoBy Dave Lahr: Antonio Margarito had a much better camp than Manny Pacquiao, and is coming into this fight in the best shape in years. Conditioning is Margarito’s most important asset. Forget about his size advantage, because that’s not what makes Margarito such a great fighter. It’s his conditioning which allows him to throw massive amounts of punches without stopping. It’s Margarito’s high work rate and good power that causes him to run over good fighters like they’re mere speed bumps in the road. Pacquiao is good against fighters that throw one punch at a time and have low work rates like Joshua Clottey.

Pacquiao will lose to Margarito if he’s as easy to hit as he was against Clottey

Image: Pacquiao will lose to Margarito if he's as easy to hit as he was against ClotteyBy Chris Williams: In taking a second look at Manny Pacquiao’s bout against Joshua Clottey last March, I have to say that Pacquiao won’t stand a chance against Antonio Margarito next Saturday if he’s as hittable and stationary as he was against Clottey. I’m hoping for Pacquiao that he doesn’t try and trade with Margarito, because he simply doesn’t have the frame and the chin to take the kind of shots that Margarito will be pounding him with. And I don’t think Pacquiao can handle the body shots from Margarito either. I know Pacquiao isn’t considered about taking body shots, but he will be once Margarito starts tagging him to the body.

Pacquiao on 60 Minutes = Boring as heck

Image: Pacquiao on 60 Minutes = Boring as heckBy Dave Lahr: I just finished watching Manny Pacquiao on 60 Minutes and what a boring show it was. I can’t believe how dead the thing was. I was expecting some interesting interviews or maybe some tidbits on Pacquiao’s next fight with Antonio Margarito, but all it contained was Bob Simon talking about how great Pacquiao as a fighter and how he got blown off for an interview and had to wait an entire day to meet with him. They showed some meaningless footage of Pacquiao hitting the mitts from Freddie Roach, and then Simon talked about how Pacquiao’s servants do everything for him.

Predictions: Khan-Maidana, Haye-Harrison, Pacquiao-Margarito, Froch-Abraham, Klitschko-Chisora, Marquez-Katsidis

By Ben James: We all love boxing and we all have very strong opinions about who is going to win each fight. A lot of us spend a lot of time arguing our points with strangers on the internet but how many of us will put out money where our mouth is and declare their predictions? After studying some of the more high profile fights in the coming months I have decided to share my opinion with you all and explain why I believe it to be true.
