Chavez Jr. wants Lucian Bute next

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Marco ReyesBy Dan Ambrose: After a less than scintillating performance in beating little known middleweight Marcos Reyes (33-3, 24 KOs) by a 10 round unanimous decision last Saturday night on Showtime, former WBC 160lb champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) is looking to pick his next opponent. Chavez Jr., 29, is interested in facing former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) next.

Before he can take that fight, or any other fight, Chavez Jr. will need to wait until his left hand heals up. He says he suffered a hairline fracture of his left hand in beating Reyes. The good news is the injury should only take three weeks to heal before Chavez Jr. can resume training.

Lucian Bute battles Andrea Di Luisa on 8/15 in comeback bout

bute3434By Scott Gilfoid: After a year and a half out of the ring and two loses in his last three fights, former IBF 168lb champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) will be making a comeback next month in facing little known 2nd tier fighter Andre Di Luisa (17-2, 13 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The 35-year-old Bute cannot lose this fight if he wants to keep his career alive. To be sure, it’s up to him if he wants to keep fighting if he gets beaten by the 33-year-old Italian Di Luisa, but he’d pretty much officially done at that point.

Lucian Bute to fight on August 15th at Bell Centre, Montreal, Canada

bute3446By Scott Gilfoid: 35-year-old former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) will be looking to revive his shattered career next month in a fight against a still to be determined opponent on August 15th on Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN from the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.

With Bute fighting next month, it doesn’t look like he’ll be IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale’s opponent for his first title defense of his IBF 168lb strap. Bute’s name was one of the so-called big names that DeGale’s promoter Eddie Hearn was thinking of matching against DeGale rather than having him fight a rematch against Andre Dirrell or face 50-year-old Bernard Hopkins, who is very interested in fighting him in order to make history.

DeGale could fight Lucian Bute or Mikkel Kessler in September or October

degale6By Allan Fox: With the IBF super middleweight title now in his possession, James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) will be fighting four to five months from now in September or October in a fight that will be staged in London in the UK, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn. He wants a big name for DeGale, but not necessarily someone that is still on his game.

The big names at super middleweight are few and far in between. Once you remove names like Carl Froch from equation, it gets down to fighters who really aren’t big names, but they are guys that the hardcore fans will recognize.

Lucian Bute signs with Al Haymon

bute54By Dan Ambrose: In a rather unusual move, the high powered adviser Al Haymon has added 34-year-old former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) to his stable of fighters, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com. Bute, ranked #15 by the WBC at light heavyweight, has lost two out of his last three fights, and he’s seen by a lot of boxing fans to be past his prime and on his way down.

At 175, it’s difficult to see what Bute can accomplish in this weight division.
”Add another one to the list. Lucian Bute has signed with Al Haymon. #thankAlHaymon,” Dan Rafael said on his twitter.

Lucian Bute pulls out of Bolonti fight due to back injury

bute6666By Scott Gilfoid: In a not surprising situation, former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) pulled out of his December 6th fight against former world title challenger Roberto Bolonti (35-3, 24 KOs) due to a back injury the soon to be 35-year-old Bute suffered while sparring for the fight.

The December 6th card will still take place, but instead of Bute-Bolonti in the main event, boxing fans will be seeing Jean Pascal vs. Don George.

Bute vs. Bolonti: Will Lucian get back to winning ways?

bute3446By Oliver Norager: Former IBF Super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2,24KOs) faces tough Argentinean Roberto Bolonti (35-3, 24 KOs) at the Bell Centre, Montreal on December 6. This fight will prove if the 34-year old Bute has something left in the tank. Bute has decided to team up with Hall of Fame-trainer Freddie Roach for the Bolonti fight.

Bute has, of course, seen what turnaround has done with Miguel Cotto’s career and wants to try do the same thing with his own career. Bute hasn’t looked as himself since he was beat by Carl Froch, in devastating fashion.

Roach thinks Bute will become a world champion again very soon

bute2By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach believes that he can resurrect former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) and turn him into world champion again in the near future at 175.

Roach thinks he can turn the 35-year-old Bute’s career in the same way that he turned around Miguel Cotto’s career. However, there’s no telling whether Roach actually did anything to improve Cotto other than recommend he fight certain opponents like Delvin Rodriguez and Sergio Martinez rather than Gennady Golovkin.

Can Lucian Bute turn his career around at 34?

bute454By Allan Fox: Former IBF World super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) has hit a rough patch in his boxing career in the last two years with losses to Jean Pascal and Carl Froch. Bute has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, and he’s now fighting at light heavyweight where you would have to assume that his chin problems will be further highlighted.

Bute was knocked out in 5 rounds by Froch in May of 2012, and ever since that fight Bute has looked gun-shy in his fights against Denis Grachev and Pascal. In both fights, Bute fought like a guy that was afraid to let his hands go for fear of running into something big.

Lucian Bute faces Roberto Bolonti on 12/6

bute6666By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF super middleweight title holder Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) will be facing former Tony Bellew victim Roberto Feliciano Bolonti (35-3, 24 KOs) on December 6th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

This is an interesting fight because Bute should be fighting better opposition than this you would think, but then again his career has gone downhill ever since he was stopped in the 5th round by WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch in their fight two years ago in May of 2012.

Bute was recently beaten by Jean Pascal by a lopsided decision in a fight where Bute looked timid and unable to pull the trigger on his punches.
