By William Mackay: The winner of the September 17th fight for the vacant WBC light welterweight crown between Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s) and Argentinian Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO’s) is in a win-win situation where they not only will be capturing the vacant World Boxing Council title in the process of winning the fight, but they also will get the chance of fighting either WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley or IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan.
Lucas Matthysse
Does Morales have enough left to beat Matthysse without controversy?
Morales/Matthysse fight for WBC title and the winner [if it’s Morales] gets Khan
By William Mackay: On September 17th, Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO’s) squares off against boxing veteran Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s) to scrap it out for the vacant WBC light welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner of the fight will likely be a short term champion because both are badly flawed fighters.
Does Matthysse have to KO Erik Morales to win on September 17th?
By Dan Ambrose: If you look at some of the recent fights of light welterweight contender Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO’s) you’ll see that he really got took to the cleaners in getting beaten in controversial losses to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander. Many boxing fans feel that Matthysse should have won both of these fights, but was beaten by more popular fighters.
Schaefer: Khan to fight Morales-Matthysse winner, then possibly a well known former welterweight champion [Mosley?] in early 2012
By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer made it clear at a London press conference that his fighter WBA Super World light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) is going after the winner of the September 17th fight between Erik Morales and Lucas Matthysse for a bout would be taking place in December. Following that fight, Khan will be fighting in early 2012 against a possible ex-world champion from the welterweight division (read: 39-year-old Shane Mosley), followed by a December fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Khan: I want the Morales-Matthysse winner
By William Mackay: I recently made a minor prediction that International Boxing Federation (IBF)/World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) would target the winner of the September 17th clash between 35-year-old Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s) and Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO’s) rather than the arguably much more dangerous prospects of fighting the winner of the August 27th fight between Robert Guerrero and Marcos Maidana as well as the September 10th fight between Khan conqueror Breidis Prescott and Paul McCloskey.
Morales vs. Matthysse: Lucas needs to set a fast pace
By Jason Kim: To beat soon to be 35-year-old Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s), Argentinian Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO’s) has to come out of the blocks fast and focus on setting a really strenuous pace to wear Morales down in the last half of their fight on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Morales-Matthysse: Does Erik have enough left to beat Matthysse?
By William Mackay: 34-year-old Erik Morales goes after an almost unheard of 4th world title against Argentinian Lucas Matthysse next month on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Morales was thought to be a shot fighter going into his last fight against Marcos Maidana last April. However, Morales fought well, and almost beat Maidana.
Erik Morales looking past Matthysse, wants Maidana rematch
Erik Morales: I’m going to beat Matthysse
By Dan Ambrose: 34-year-old Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s) is fighting for the vacant WBC light welterweight title on September 17th against the number #7 ranked WBC contender Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. In looking at how mediocre Morales has looked since staging his comeback in in 2010, it’s incredible how Morales was given the chance to fight for the vacant World Boxing Council title.
