Matthysse-Dallas Jr: Lucas in a stay busy fight on January 26th

mattysse4332By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) is just trying to stay busy while he waits for more important fights to open up like his long awaited fight against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

Matthysse doesn’t just want to sit around waiting for Garcia to fight him, so he’s staying busy with a fight against #10 WBO Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1, 8 KO’s) on January 26th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. All you can hope for in this fight is that Matthysse can get some decent rounds in before he knocks Dallas Jr., and hopefully he doesn’t sustain a bad cut, because that would give Garcia more time to fight other guys.

Matthysse to face Mike Dallas Jr. on January 26th; Lundy not fighting

matthysse45By Dan Ambrose: Interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) will be facing fringe contender Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1, 8 KO’s) on January 26th instead of Hank Lundy at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to fightnews.com, Lundy was pulled out of the fight by his manager, as he didn’t get permission to face Matthysse.

Lundy didn’t stand a chance against Matthysse and neither does Dallas Jr., who has lost two out of his last four fights. Both Lundy and Dallas Jr. are about the same in terms of talent and it doesn’t really matter that Lundy is out and Dallas Jr. is in. They’re both mismatches.

Matthysse vs. Lundy on January 26th on Showtime at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada

matthysse3433By Dan Ambrose: The January 26th bout between interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) and Hank Lundy (22-2-1, 11 KO’s) has been moved from Los Angeles to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, The Joint, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Matthysse, 30, has made no secret to the fact that he’s hoping to face WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in 2013. However, it’s up to their mutual promoters at Golden Boy Promotions and the World Boxing Council whether Matthysse will get that fight because Garcia doesn’t appear to be chomping at the bit to face Matthysse.

Arum: Fans want to see Rios-Alvarado 2, not Rios vs. Matthysse

rios54By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that there is a high demand from boxing fans to see two of Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters former WBA World lightweight champion (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) go back and fight Mike Alvarado (33-1, 23 KO’s) again rather than seeing Rios move forward with his career and fight WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s).

Arum said to the Boxingsocialist.com “It would be really stupid if I did that fight [Matthysse vs. Rios]. The fight everyone wants to see is Rios and Alvarado. Why would I want to put Rios in with a guy that lost to Zab Judah? He’s [Matthysse] not a draw. The fight is not a draw. Matthysse doesn’t sell 10 tickets.”

Khan: Victor Ortiz, Josesito Lopez and Matthysse are potential opponents for me in April

matthysse3123By Scott Gilfoid: You can add WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse and former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz to the list of fighters that former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan may end up fighting in April, 2013. Josesito Lopez is already on the list, but his status is unclear because Khan hasn’t seemed really enthused when mentioning his name.

Khan said on Sky Ringside “There are a few names – Josesito Lopez, Victor Ortiz, there’s Lucas Matthysse, whoever. I fight whoever they [Golden Boy Promotions] puts in front of me.”

Lucas Matthysse – Henry Lundy battle it out on January 26th

matthysse12By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) will be looking to defend his title on January 26th against lightweight Henry Lundy (22-2-1, 11 KO’s) in what should be Matthysse’s warm-up for a big fight against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

Garcia is the one that Matthysse, 30, really wants to fight because he wants to capture those titles, and prove that he’s the best in the light welterweight division. A win for Matthysse over Garcia could lead to some much important bouts in the future.

Matthysse vs. Lundy on Alexander-Brook undercard on 1/19 in Los Angeles, CA

Image: Matthysse vs. Lundy on Alexander-Brook undercard on 1/19 in Los Angeles, CABy Dan Ambrose: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) will be fighting a well known lightweight American Hank Lundy (22-2-1, 11 KO’s) on the undercard of the Devon Alexander vs. Kell Brook fight on January 19th at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California, USA. The Matthysse-Lundy fight is being negotiated still, according to RingTV, but it looks like it’s going to be added to the Brook vs. Alexander card.

It’s a peculiar choice for Matthysse because Lundy is coming off of a loss in his last fight to Raymundo Beltran and Lundy was already exposed previous to that by John Molina. However, Lundy is well known to the casual boxing fans in the U.S because of his fights on ESPN2, so it makes sense from that standpoint, if nothing else.

Rios: Matthysse would be a harder fight than Danny Garcia

By Dan Ambrose: Once Brandon Rios faces Manny Pacquiao next April in their pay per view bout, Rios says he wouldn’t mind taking on WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia or WBA interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse. Rios thinks Matthysse would be the much harder fight, however, as he sees him as having good power. Rios doesn’t rate Garcia as a big puncher for some reason.

Matthysse in action on 2/9

Image: Matthysse in action on 2/9By Jason Kim: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) is scheduled for a fight in two weeks on December 15th in his native Argentina against a still to be determined opponent. Matthysse, 30, will then be back in the ring on February 9th on the undercard of the Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah fight card televise on Showtime at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Matthysse also still doesn’t have an opponent for that date either. But being on that card is important for Matthysse, because he could be facing Garcia in the ring really soon. Matthysse is Garcia’s mandatory challenger, and he’s going to have to get around to fighting Matthysse sooner or later.

Fans prefer Danny Garcia to fight Brandon Rios or Lucas Mattysse next, not Judah

Image: Fans prefer Danny Garcia to fight Brandon Rios or Lucas Mattysse next, not JudahBy Dan Ambrose: In a poll conducted by RingTV, boxing fans preferred by a wide margin that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia fight #1 Brandon Rios or #2 Lucas Matthysse for Garcia’s next fight in February or March of next year. Boxing fans don’t appear to be all that interested in seeing Garcia fight Zab Judah, who has already been mentioned by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer as possibly the next guy that Garcia fights.

Below are the results of the poll from 3,855 fans:
