Riddick Bowe vs Lennox Lewis: The fight that never happened

lewis32By Juni: I remember watching former heavyweight world champion Riddick Bowe when he first started. I followed his career and recorded over 10 of his matches. After fighting a bunch of guys to build up his confidence, it was time for him to start facing better opponents. That’s when he took on Tony Tubbs. I saw that fight and I still remember the scoring I had. I had thought Tubbs won, having it 96 to 94 for Tubbs. After the decision was announced, the crowd booed

Lennox Lewis

At the time, I didn’t know who he was, but read up on him when my father would buy me boxing magazines. I remember reading that Lennox Lewis was to face Gary Mason. At the time, I had said that Lewis is going to get killed by the guy who was 35-0-32. After Lewis had knocked out Mason, I was thinking “we have a new scary guy in the division”.

Lewis: Fury can’t handle Klitschko

wladimir433333By Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Lennox Lewis doesn’t think Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) has the chin, punching power, or the experience to defeat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 Kos) in their fight this Saturday night at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. Lewis is concerned that Fury was dropped by a cruiserweight in Steve Cunningham in the past.

He feels that if a small former cruiserweight like Cunningham was able to put Fury on the canvas, then that is a problem that Fury is going to have in trying to fight at the upper level of the heavyweight division.

Lewis: Wladimir needs to win WBC title then retire

wladimir0843By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Lennox Lewis believes that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) needs to beat Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) this Saturday night by bombing out the unbeaten 6’9″ fighter with a big right hand, and then go after the WBC title, which is currently held by Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs).

Lewis says Wladimir needs to try and win the WBC belt and then retire from the sport before age and injuries catches up to him. To be sure, Wladimir has recently started showing his age in his last two fights against Bryant Jennings and Kubrat Pulev.

Lennox Lewis: Tyson Fury rule the division? I think not!

fury63By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) was flapping his gums on Monday talking about how he’s going to rule the heavyweight division if he can beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) in their fight next month on October 24th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

This led to Fury and former IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis going at it briefly on Twitter in exchanging a few comments. Lewis has serious doubt that the 27-year-old Fury will rule the division. Lewis thinks that Fury should focus on his next fight against Klitschko rather than messing around on the social media sites.

Lewis gives Tyson Fury no chance of beating Wladimir Klitschko

fury55By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBO Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) will be getting a world title shot later this year against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) later this year by the virtue of Fury winning the WBO heavyweight eliminator bout against domestic level fighter Dereck Chisora last year in November, but Fury is likely to be in well over his head when he gets inside the ring with the arguably more talented Wladimir.

That’s what former heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis believes. He thinks that Fury has faced no one during his brief seven-year pro career that is remotely as big or as talented as what he’ll be seeing in the ring when he faces the 6’6”, hard-punching Wladimir later this year.

Lewis wants Mayweather-Pacquiao in 2015

floyd74By Allan Fox: Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is hoping to see a mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. That’s the fight that Lewis wants to see most of all of all the potentially huge fights out there in boxing.

Lewis points out that his fight with Mike Tyson in 2002 was still a highly successful match, even though the fight took place 13 years too late. Tyson was in his prime from 1986 to 1989.

In 1990, Tyson began his long slide downhill that eventually led to him retiring in 2005. It’s too bad Lewis didn’t catch Tyson in his best years. Fans would have been able to see how good or not so good Lewis was.

Lennox Lewis says Wladimir’s win over Pulev was “easy work”

wlad44By Allan Fox: Former world champion Lennox Lewis was impressed with the ease of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s win over Kubrat Pulev (20-1, 11 KOs) last Saturday night in Hamburg, Germany.

Lewis says that Pulev was a mere bruiser, and that Wladimir needs to think about improving the level of his opposition. If it was up to Wladimir, he likely wouldn’t have taken the fight with Pulev, because it wasn’t a fight that he was all that excited about from the get go.

Lewis thinks Leapai could surprise Wladimir Klitschko

wladimir565By Allan Fox: Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis thinks that #1 WBO Alex Leapai (30-4-3, 24 KO’s) could pull off a big upset by beating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KO’s) in their fight on April 26th at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

“There could be a surprise perhaps,” Lewis said via sport.de. “He is a good challenger.”

Lewis might need to see some more of Leapai’s past fights to see how badly over-matched he is against Wladimir. Leapai is the same guy that Kevin Johnson recently knocked out.

Lewis: I’d probably KO Fury in one round

lewis323By Scott Gilfoid: 48-year-old Lennox Lewis was amused to see British heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) calling him out yesterday for a fight. Lewis thinks that Fury hasn’t done enough to be calling him out at this point in his career given the weak opposition that Fury’s been facing thus far. Additionally, Lewis thinks he’d still likely KO Fury in one round if he did decide to fight him.

Lewis said to the Telegraph “Why would you want me right now? I’m an old man and you know what, even if I did put on my gloves right now, I’d probably knock him out inside a round.”
