Lamont Peterson plans on making it tough for Felix Diaz

peterson454By Allan Fox: Former IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) will be back inside the ring this Saturday night against Felix Diaz Jr (17-0, 8 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from the EagleBank Arena, in Fairfax, Virginia.

Peterson, 31, says he’s still fighting at 140 despite his good showing in his last fight against Danny Garcia, which took place at a catch-weight of 143 pounds last April. Peterson bulked up for that fight and looked like a genuine welterweight.

dirrell6666By Scott Gilfoid: After narrowly losing a 12 round majority decision to Danny Garcia last May in a catch-weight fight at 143 pounds, former IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) will be trying his hand at welterweight (147) against 2008 Olympic light welterweight gold medalist Felix Diaz Jr. (17-0, 8 KOs) next month in a 12 round fight on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from the EagleBank Arena at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Peterson, 31, looked sensational in his last fight in moving up to welterweight to give Garcia all he could handle for 12 rounds. Peterson put on an excellent display of taking the fight to Garcia and punishing him with power shots to the body and head.

Khan wants Thurman, Peterson or Garcia for next fight

khan677777777(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan appears to have finally come to terms with the fact that he won’t be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September. Khan instead says he’s interested in fighting Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia or Lamont Peterson. Like always, Khan says he’ll leave it in hands of his adviser Al Haymon to pick out his next opponent.

Khan doesn’t say who Haymon is looking to find for him, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the above mentioned fighters are last on the list of fighters that he’s looking to match Khan against.

Khan says he’s been rejected by Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson for rematches

khan3434By Scott Gilfoid: Just when you thought that Amir Khan’s bad luck couldn’t have gotten any worse in terms of getting high profile fights, Khan is saying that he’s had no response with former IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson and former WBC 140lb champion Danny Garcia in his attempts to get rematches with both of them.

Khan was beaten by Peterson by a narrow 12 round decision in 2011, and knocked out by Danny Garcia in the 4th round in their fight in 2012. Since then, Khan’s opposition has been less than impressive.

Lamont Peterson to fight in September

peterson66By Dan Ambrose: IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) will be back inside the ring in September against an opponent still to be determined, according to his trainer Barry Hunter. He’s not sure which weight Peterson will be fighting at.

Peterson could drop back down to 140 if a significant fight turns up that interests him. Peterson fought his last fight at a catch-weight of 143 pounds against Danny Garcia last April. Peterson, 31, lost the fight by a 12 round majority decision, but a lot of boxing fans felt that Peterson fought well enough to deserve the decision in the fight.

PBC on NBC April 11th Post-fight reviews and analysis

lee1By Daniel Reed:

Andy Lee vs. Peter Quillin
The first televised fight of the night here in the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn was an intriguing Middleweight match-up between the very popular “Irish” Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KO’s) of Limerick, Ireland, and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (31-0, 22 KO’s) of Brooklyn by way of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The red hot Lee was coming off two impressive come-from-behind, Gatti-esque knockout victories over John Jackson of the Virgin Islands at 154 lbs., and the former Olympian and amateur standout from Russia, Matt Korobov.

Did Danny Garcia really win against Lamont Peterson?

garcia665By Juni: Was I watching another fight last Saturday night when WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia defeated IBF 140 pound champion Lamont Peterson at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York? Usually I have a paper and a pen to score fights, but I was sure this fight was not going to last.

I felt the only way for Lamont to win is to box (which he did). But my question was (while I was watching the fight), how long can he box till he goes back to his old way of fighting? I had thought once his legs tire, he will stand and try to fight Garcia which will result in making it an easier fight for Danny.

Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson had 3.4 million viewers on PBC on NBC

garcia25By Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday’s fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) and IBF 140lb champion Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) was a huge success on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC. The fight brought a peak of 3.4 million viewers on NBC, according to Fight news.

The fight averaged 2.9 million. That figure makes the Garcia vs. Peterson fight the second highest watched fight in the last 17 years. That’s pretty impressive to say the least.

The Garcia-Peterson fight took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia won the fight by a somewhat controversial 12 round majority decision by the scores 114-114, 115-113 and 115-113. Even if you agreed with the decision, and there were many boxing fans who didn’t, you have to agree that Garcia did not shine in the fight.
