Holt vs. Bradley, Andrade vs. Tsypko on April 4th

bradley34157By Jim Dower: WBC light welterweight champion Kendall Holt (25-2, 13 KOs) will face off against World Boxing Organization light welterweight title holder unbeaten Timothy Bradley (23-0, 11 KOs) in a 12-round unification bout at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada on April 4th. This fight matches two fighters with extraordinary hand speed, easily the best in the entire light welterweight division. Going into this fight, Bradley looks to be the slightly stronger fighter due to his power advantage. However, that can all change in an instant if Holt is able to catch Bradley with a shot that he doesn’t see coming.

Kendall Holt Stops Ricardo Torres in 1st round KO!

holt46333.jpgBy Stuart Leland: In an exciting fight, which saw two knockdowns in the opening minute of action, Kendal Holt (24-2, 13 KOs) got off the canvas twice to stop WBO light welterweight champion Ricardo Torres (32-2, 28 KOs) in the 1st round of a scheduled 12-round title bout at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the opening bell, Torres, 28, rushed across the ring and tagged Holt with a couple of big shots. Just as Holt was beginning to pull away, however, he was nailed by a big right hand from Torres, sending him to the canvas.

Holt immediately got up, and looked to have started fighting a little too quickly, because he was hit twice more by Torres, and then knocked down a second time in the round by another big right hand from Torres. After receiving a standing eight count from referee Jay Nady, Holt was allowed to continue. Despite the two knockdowns, he looked to perfectly fine, as if he’d never been knocked down at all.

Ricardo Torres vs. Kendall Holt II on Saturday

torres335322.jpgBy Manuel Perez: WBO light welterweight champion Ricardo Torres (32-1, 28 KOs) will be facing Kendall Holt (23-2, 12 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round rematch on Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their previous fight, an 11th round TKO win for Torres, was marred due to controversy surrounding complaints made by Holt after the bout, saying that the fight was stopped far too early by referee Genaro Rodriguez, that Holt was canned in the head by a full can of beer in the 6th round immediately after he had knocked Torres down with a big left hand, the canvas was slippery with water in the 11th round making it hard for Holt to step around the ring, and that Holt was grabbed around the ankles will standing with his back to the ropes in the 11th round.

All of it seems, at least to me, a lot of excuses from a sour loser. Despite his assertions, I’ve never seen one instance of Holt being tagged in the head by a can of beer in the 6th round, and I’ve seen the fight many times. I agree with him that the canvas was wet in the 11th after fans threw both beer and water in the ring, but Torres had to navigate his way around the ring just as Holt did, and he didn’t have too hard of a time doing it.
