Pavlik vs. Ward on January 26th in Los Angeles, CA

Image: Pavlik vs. Ward on January 26th in Los Angeles, CABy Scott Gilfoid: It looks like WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) has found his next victim for an easy win, as it’s reported by Boxrec.com that the 28-year-old Ward will be facing former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KO’s) on January 26th at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California.

Incredibly this is a fight that the 30-year-old Pavlik really wants and one that he actually believes he can win. I don’t know what in the world has given Pavlik the idea that he can do anything against Ward, but something has got him thinking he can win this fight.

Andre Ward vs. Kelly Pavlik on HBO on 1/26

Image: Andre Ward vs. Kelly Pavlik on HBO on 1/26By Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) and Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KO’s) are still looking for a venue for their HBO televised fight on January 26th next year. Pavlik’s promoters at Top Rank don’t want the fight to take place in the 28-year-old Ward’s home city of Oakland, California, according to RingTV. There was talk of the bout taking place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, but that’s not going to happen because the venue is already booked with another event on that night.

Although the Ward-Pavlik fight will attract a lot of interest in the United States, it’s little more than a stay busy fight for Ward while he waits to take on the winner of the December 8th fight between Mikkel Kessler and Brian Magee in their fight for the vacant WBA World super middleweight title.

Image: Pavlik likes his chances against WardBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KO’s) sees himself with a real chance of beating WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) if they end up fighting next.

Pavlik said to thaboxingvoice.com radio show: “He’ll [Ward] be right in front of me and that will give me an advantage. If he fight me, he will be in a fight. He’s going to be in a real fight…He got dropped by a kid from my own hometown, Darnell Boone.”

Pavlik making a mistake if he fights Andre Ward

Image: Pavlik making a mistake if he fights Andre WardBy Jason Kim: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik’s career has been pretty much in a serious stall since losing his titles two years ago in a 12 round decision loss to Sergio Martinez in 2010. Pavlik’s Top Rank promoters are reportedly in negotiations with WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward’s promoters to set up a fight between them, possibly by the end of the year. If this fight comes off to fruition, we could see Pavlik suffer the worst defeat of his career, far worse than his beating he took against Bernard Hopkins or his loss to Sergio Martinez.

Pavlik has been in and out of a alcohol treatment center but his career has failed to restart due to long periods in between fights and his failure to start fighting quality fighters again. It’s almost like Pavlik has restarted his career with him facing Alfonso Lopez, Aaron Jaco, Scott Sigmon and Will Rosinksy in his last four fights.

Pavlik not interested in Edwin Rodriguez fight

Image: Pavlik not interested in Edwin Rodriguez fightBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KO’s) says he has no interest whatsoever in taking on unbeaten #3 WBC, #4 IBF, #8 WBA super middleweight contender Edwin Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KO’s) despite him looking good in blowing out Jason Escaldera (13-1-1, 12 KO’s) in 8 rounds last Saturday night in an HBO televised fight.

Speaking with 8countnews.com, Pavlik said “There’s bigger fights out there than Edwin Rodriguez. I’m a former world champion. I make big fights. I don’t need to fight him.”

Pavlik seemed to take offense that the 27-year-old Rodriguez is using him as a stepping stone to get to a title shot rather than just calling out one of the champions. Pavlik obviously doesn’t see himself as an over-the-hill type fighter or someone to be used as a stepping stone for younger super middleweights to use in order to get a title shot.

Edwin Rodriguez doesn’t need Pavlik to get to the top

Image: Edwin Rodriguez doesn't need Pavlik to get to the topBy Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten super middleweight contender Edwin Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KO’s) called out former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik after Rodriguez’s 8th round TKO win over Jason Escalera (13-1-1, 12 KO’s) last Saturday night at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Rodriguez, 27, should have known better than to waste his time calling out Pavlik, because you can see just by looking at Pavlik’s record that he’s not really going after quality fighters right now and just looking to pad his resume with some easy opponents.

Rodriguez, #3 WBC, #4 IBF, #8 WBA, said this after the fight as quoted by ESPN “We want Kelly Pavlik. I’m ready. [Jean] Pascal is a good friend, but this is business. If he wants to get it on, I’m down as well.”
