Khan: Brook should have been lighter for Golovkin

brook111

By Scott Gilfoid: Like a lot of people, Amir Khan thinks Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is making a BIG mistake for his fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) for their match this Saturday night by being so heavy. Khan thinks Brook should have stayed light so that he could have used his speed against Golovkin to avoid getting hit. Instead, Brook has bulked up to the 170s, and is currently bigger than Triple G.

At the seven-day weigh-in for the fight, Brook was at 167 to Golovkin’s 162lbs. However, Brook is likely to be well over 170 pounds by the time he rehydrates for the fight on September `10. Khan thinks that a heavy Brook will be easy for Golovkin to hit and hurt with his solid shots.

“I think it will be difficult [for Brook], said Khan. “Maybe he’s taking the wrong approach to the fight by being heavy. By being the smaller guy, he could have moved quicker. This way if he stands with a big puncher, I think he’s going to get hurt,” said Khan.

Ingle: Golovkin is slowing down; Brook is fresher

Image: Ingle: Golovkin is slowing down; Brook is fresher

By Scott Gilfoid: Dominic Ingle, the trainer for unbeaten welterweight belt holder Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs), says he’s spotted aging in 34-year-old IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) that he thinks his fighter can take advantage of this Saturday night on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Ingle says he looked at how Golovkin has appeared in his last two fights against Dominic Wade and David Lemieux, and he says he’s getting hit more and looking slower. Ingle thinks the 30-year-old Brook will be able to take full advantage of the slower Golovkin when he gets inside the ring with him on the night.

Golovkin’s WBA title won’t be fought for in Brook match

1-golovkin (2)

By Allan Fox: The World Boxing Association has decided not to sanction WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s title defense against Kell Brook on Saturday night due to Brook not being a middleweight. Brook is moving up two divisions from the welterweight division to take the fight on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Golovkin’s IBF/IBO/WBC middleweight titles will be up for grabs in the Brook fight. The WBA will let Golovkin take the fight with Brook without stripping him of his title. They just won’t let him have their title on the line for the fight. Brook has never fought at welterweight before and he’s not ranked in the top 15 at middleweight.

“What I most regret is that there are no boxers at 160 pounds who will fight against ‘Triple G,’ and Brook has to move up two divisions to fight against him,” WBA president Gilberto Mendoza Jr. said via ESPN.com.

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler points out that the WBA sanctioned the fight between Adrien Broner and former WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in 2013, when Malignaggi was the WBA champion. Broner moved up two divisions from the lightweight division to fight and beat Malignaggi. Roy Jones Jr. moved up from light heavyweight to beat WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz to snatch his title in 2003.

Paul Smith: Brook has massive ask against Golovkin

brook97

By Allan Fox: Former two-time world title challenger Paul Smith thinks Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has a real challenge on his hands in his fight on Saturday, September 10 against the naturally bigger middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs).

Smith likes Brook a lot as a fighter, but he doesn’t know if he can handle the big punches from Golovkin.

Smith says that if Golovkin were the one moving up two divisions to face Brook instead of the other way around, it would be closer fight potentially. But with Brook having to move up two divisions to take on the hardest puncher in the 160lb division in Golovkin, he doesn’t know if Brook can accomplish that task.

Golovkin arrives in UK for Brook fight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcQT_gNqCes

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) arrived in the UK today for his fight this Saturday night on September 10 against Britain’s Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 24 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, England. Golovkin has less than a week before he meets up with the 30-year-old UK fighter Brook inside the ring in front of what will be a huge horde of pro-Brook supporters at the O2 Arena.

Golovkin doesn’t care about being the visiting fighter, because he plans on shutting up the crowd and turning the three judges into spectators. In other words, there will be no controversial decisions in this fight on Saturday if Golovkin can help it, because he doesn’t plan on letting it go to a decision.

Golovkin can’t afford to look too good against Brook

golovkin633

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is under the impression that if he looks too good in beating Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) this Saturday night, it could cause Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions not to take the fight against him. Golovkin laughs that maybe he should use the strategy of not looking good so that it will get him the fight against Canelo.

It’s sad that Golovkin might lose out on a fight against the popular Mexican fighter Canelo if he beats his opponents too impressively, because a fighter should be able to earn big fights after looking good. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way in boxing.

Galahad: Brook is a better version of Golovkin

brook3

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super bantamweight Kid Galahad says he cannot see Kell brook getting beaten by IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin this Saturday night in their fight at the O2 arena in London, England. the 26-year-old Galahad trains with Brook, and he knows of how skillful he is and how much punching he’s got in his arsenal.

According to Galahad, Brook is a better version of the 34-year-old Golovkin, and he feels there’s no way that he’ll lose to the Kazakhstani fighter on September 10.

Kell Brook getting worked over by Liam Smith

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is seen using WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) for sparring help to get ready for his upcoming September 10 fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) next Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England. What shockingly jumps out at me in looking at this brief bit of sparring was how Smith, 27, appeared to be the much sharper puncher of the two.

Smith landed the much harder blows, and he had little problems pressuring Brook. Smith was able to stay close to Brook at all times by following around the ring and waiting for opportunities to nail him with his harder punches. Smith is a junior middleweight, and he probably was lighter than Brook during the sparring session.

Kell Brook’s trainer and the referee have have life/death responsibility

golovkin4

By Bob Smith: I will add my voice to those who are deeply skeptical of the chances of Kell Brook to defeat Gennady Golovkin in their fight on September 10th. Before going forward, it is worth pointing out that Kell Brook, though a top welterweight, is clearly not the best in his division, but is on the same tier as Porter, Thurman, and Spence. Before he attempts to go up one division, he should unify his own division. And I’m not sure that he could defeat either Spence or Thurman, especially if he does not have the home ring advantage.

Beyond that, there is no guarantee that Kell Brook is a top 10 junior middleweight. While he is a big welterweight, by definition, he fights smaller guys. The analogy would be Canelo, who can easily be 170s to 180s in the ring, taking on Kovalev or Ward – it would be foolish and a grave health concern for him to do so. Weight alone does not determine boxing proficiency in a division, despite Kell Brook’s attempt to achieve success in this fight by putting on weight and muscle. There is no way that Kell Brook would defeat Erislandy Lara or either of the Charlo brothers. And I don’t like his chances against Cotto, Andrade, or even Trout or Molina at 154.

Rosado: Brook could get damaged by Golovkin forever

Image: Rosado: Brook could get damaged by Golovkin forever

By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado thinks it’s a bad idea that welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is moving up in weight two divisions to challenge IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10. Rosado thinks Brook could get damaged permanently by Golovkin from a potential brutal beating that he inflicts on him.

Rosado points out that many fighters are never the same after they take a really bad beating inside the ring. With Brook moving up in weight to face one of the most dangerous punchers in the 160lb division, he’s taking big risk against Golovkin.
