Brook gets title shot after stoppage victory over Saldivia

Image: Brook gets title shot after stoppage victory over SaldiviaBy Gareth Rees: Kell Brook (29-0) earned himself a shot at the IBF Welterweight title after a 3rd round stoppage victory over Hector Saldivia (41-3). After his disappointing performance in the win against Carson Jones last time out, Brook made sure he was totally ready and came out with a new attitude in his preparations for this title eliminator and the results were obvious.

Many have pointed out that he looked physically better than ever and reports were that it was the best camp of his career and unlike in the preparation for Jones he was 100% dedicated, even bringing in a new nutritionist to help with the weight cut.

Brook: I am ready to turn into a machine after beating Saldivia

Image: Brook: I am ready to turn into a machine after beating SaldiviaBy Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) put himself in position tonight to fight for the IBF welterweight title by defeating Hector Saldivia (41-3, 32 KO’s) in a 3rd round stoppage at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Brook said afterwards “We’ve been hitting the numbers and when we go for the world title, we will carry on where we have left off. I am ready to turn into a machine.”

This is actually kind of funny because Brook is assuming that he’ll be able to do the same things that he did with Saldivia to Devon Alexander or Randall Bailey. I don’t see how Brook can do that, because Saldivia was a special case.

Brook stops Saldivia with a jab in 3rd round

Image: Brook stops Saldivia with a jab in 3rd roundBy Scott Gilfoid: In an utterly pathetic mismatch, undefeated Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) destroyed a badly overmatched Hector Saldivia (41-3, 32 KO’s) in the third round to earn a mandatory position in their IBF welterweight eliminator bout at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Brook hit Saldivia with a jab in the third and Saldivia keeled over and hit the canvas. Although he got back to his feet the fight was still halted because Saldivia was too hurt.

Before anyone gets excited about the win you have to remember that Saldivia, who was slow as molasses, had had already been stopped in the 1st round two years ago by Said Ouali and had beaten only obscure opposition since then. The real question is why on earth did the International Boxing Federation rank Saldivia #3 in the division when it was clear years ago that he didn’t belong anywhere near the top 15 or even the top 50 in my view.

Brook destroys Saldivia; Anderson stops Reid

Image: Brook destroys Saldivia; Anderson stops ReidBy William Mackay: Kenny Anderson (18-1, 13 KO’s) defeated former WBC super middleweight champion Robin Reid (42-8-1, 29 KO’s) by a 5th round TKO to capture the vacant BBBofC British super middleweight title on the undercard of the Kell Brook vs. Hector Saldivia fight on Saturday night at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

The heavy handed Anderson didn’t look all that great until knocking Reid down with a nice uppercut and then blasting him out with a flurry of shots to get the win.

Kell Brook’s retirement threat, career hanging in the balance

Image: Kell Brook's retirement threat, career hanging in the balanceBy Scott Gilfoid: British welterweight Kell Brook (28-0, 18 KO’s) made a retirement threat for tonight’s fight with tonight’s IBF welterweight eliminator bout against Hector Saldivia (41-2, 32 KO’s) at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Brook has been talking about hanging up the gloves if he gets spanked tonight by the unheralded 28-year-old Saldivia, promising retirement if he can’t get past this opponent onto his much coveted title shot against either Devon Alexander or Randall Bailey.

Kell Brook hoping a win over Saldivia will lead to becoming an elite fighter

Image: Kell Brook hoping a win over Saldivia will lead to becoming an elite fighterBy Scott Gilfoid: The International Boxing Federation has really tossed undefeated Kell Brook (28-0, 18 KO’s) a bone by making the unknown, untested and VERY average looking Hector Saldivia (41-2, 32 KO’s) the #3 IBF contender at welterweight, which is making it easy for Brook to get an easy title shot by beating Saldivia tonight in their IBF 147 lb eliminator bout at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The winner of this fight will fight the Randall Bailey vs. Devon Alexander winner.

This is hometown advantage for Brook, who seems to fight nowhere else for some reason. It probably wouldn’t matter, though, because Saldivia is someone that Brook could probably beat on the moon in zero oxygen if needed. It’s incredibly confusing why the IBF made Saldivia the #3 contender at welterweight because he doesn’t look better than guys that he’s ranked ahead of, such as Devon Alexander, Jan Zaveck, Carson Jones or Mike Jones. Heck, he doesn’t even look as good as Matthew Hatton, and that kind of tells you how off this ranking is for Saldivia.

Kell Brook to prove why he’s one of the best welterweights in the world tonight

Image: Kell Brook to prove why he’s one of the best welterweights in the world tonightBy Marcus Stewart: Upcoming welterweight Kell Brook is in a final eliminator for the IBF title as he takes on Hector Saldivia tonight in Sheffield at the Motorpoint Arena. Kell Brook is ranked as the 3rd best welterweight in the world and I can see why.

Brook has blown away practically all of his opponents with slick boxing skills and tremendous punching power. Even against Carson Jones, when he wasn’t completely fit for the fight, he managed to scrounge the victory out like the true British warrior that he is.

Brook: You’re going to see the new me against Saldivia

Image: Brook: You're going to see the new me against SaldiviaBy Scott Gilfoid: Some fighters come up with all kinds of excuses for when they fail to perform at a high level when their promoters ramp up their competition after many years of feeding them softest of competition.

Kell Brook (28-0, 18 KO’s) seems to be one of those fighters filled with excuses for why he suddenly looked dreadful in his last fight agaisnt Carson Jones last July when Brook was finally put in with someone that could fight a little after eight long years of easy fights.

Kell Brook says he’l retire if he doesn’t beat Saldivia on Saturday

Image: Kell Brook says he'l retire if he doesn't beat Saldivia on SaturdayBy Scott Gilfoid: First it was Carl Froch talking about retiring if he didn’t beat Arthur Abraham in the Super Six tournament in 2010, and now it’s undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook (28-0, 18 KO’s) saying he’ll hang it up if he can’t beat Argentinian Hector Saldivia (41-2, 32 KO’s) on Saturday night in their IBF welterweight eliminator bout at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

The 26-year-old Brook said to thesun.co.uk “People keep saying I have talent so if I can’t get rid of guys like Saldivia I don’t deserve to be at this level. That is why I’m saying I will pack it up if I don’t beat him on Saturday night.”
