Marquez says Canelo-Khan is a mismatch

Image: Marquez says Canelo-Khan is a mismatchBy Dan Ambrose: Juan Manuel Marquez is giving Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) no chance of beating the heavier and stronger Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) in their fight on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view.

Marquez thinks Canelo will stop Khan when he decides to. Marquez feels that Khan will need to move constantly in the fight, because as soon as he stops moving, it’ll be over for him. Marquez sees Khan’s fragile chin as being his undoing in this fight. Without the ability to take Canelo’s heavy power shots, Khan will wind up losing, according to Marquez.

Marquez wants Cotto fight in September or October

marquez777aBy Dan Ambrose:
Former three division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) wants to take a tune-up fight in May to get the rust out, and then after that, he would like to face middleweight Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) in September or October this year. Maruez, 42, has not fought since May of 2014 due to an injury he suffered in his fight against Mike Alvarado.

If he has to face the 35-year-old Cotto, then he will need a good tune-up to get ready for that fight. Marquez has been in contact with Cotto’s management, and they reportedly are interested in the fight.

Cotto lost his WBC middleweight title in his last fight to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and he wants to return to the ring in June against an opponent still to be determined. A fight against Marquez would be idea for Cotto later this year.

Marquez wants to fight 2 more times before retiring

marquez66By Dan Ambrose: 42-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) says he plans on fighting two more times before he retires from the sport and wraps up his long pro career. Just when Marquez plans on fighting again is unclear at this point. He’s interested in fighting for a fifth division world title, and presumably that would be against one of the welterweight champions.

Marquez is also interested in fighting Miguel Cotto, but that’s a fight that wouldn’t involve a world title due to Cotto recently getting beaten by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. One problem with Marquez fighting for a title is the fact that he’s not ranked by any of the sanctioning bodies at this time in the 147lb division because of his long period of inactivity.

Marquez hasn’t fought in almost two years since his win over Mike Alvarado in May 2014.

Miguel Cotto vs. Juan Manuel Marquez rumors

marquez4356By Dan Ambrose: There are a lot of rumors floating around about the Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) and Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) facing each other in their next fights.

Thus far, Cotto’s camp isn’t ready to confirm whether the rumors have any basis in fact. They’re staying quiet on the fight, which suggests that talks could have already started. It’s a fight that would benefit both fighters, because Cotto is conming off of a loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and Marquez hasn’t fought in close to two years.

Marquez needs a fight right now, and a bout against Cotto would be a nice retirement fight for the Mexican star. Marquez has had a knee problem that has kept him out of the ring since his win over Mike Alvarado in 2014.

Beristain sees Marquez-Cotto as possible fight

marquez44444By Dan Ambrose: Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 42 KOs) has been out of the ring for almost two years since his last fight in 2014. It’s thought that the 42-year-old Marquez may never fight again, and if he does it will be for a final farewell fight to end his long 23-year pro career.

Marquez’s long time trainer Nacho Beristain says he’s not ruling out Marquez coming back and being capable of fighting former WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Beristain thinks it’s possible.

Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach likes the fight. We don’t know how Cotto feels about fighting Marquez. It would be his call if a fight like that were to go ahead.

Marquez: Canelo can beat Golovkin, but not Mayweather

canelo1(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Allan Fox: Boxing great Juan Manuel Marquez thinks that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) showed enough improvement last night with his win over Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) to suggest that he’ll beat IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) if the two middleweights face each other.

Marquez thinks Canelo can beat Golovkin if he fights defensively by making the Kazakhstan fighter miss with his power punches like he was making Cotto miss last night in their fight on HBO PPV from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Carlos Molina possible for December

marquez7By Dan Ambrose: It looks like we could be seeing 42-year-old former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (57-6-2, 40 KOs) facing 32-year-old former IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (23-6-2, 7 KOs) in a farewell fight for Marquez in December.

The Marquez-Molina hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s tentative for December. Marquez has been out of the ring for the past year and a half since beating Mike Alvarado by a 12 round unanimous decision last May at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Marquez: I’m not interested in Pacquiao rematch

marquez777aBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has talked recently of adding 42-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez’s name in the hat for a fifth fight against his fighter Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) in early 2016. Marquez says he’s absolutely not interested in facing the 36-year-old Pacquiao again.

Arum is trying to find an opponent for Pacquiao, and he has a list of Amir Khan, Kell Brook and Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs). According to Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, the list is only of those three fighters. However, Arum has mentioned Terence Crawford and Lucas Matthysse recently as two other fighters he’s going to make his pick from.

Roach says Arum told him to pick from Khan, Marquez or Brook for Pacquiao’s next opponent

roach111By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum gave him three names – Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez and Kell Brook – for him to pick from for Manny Pacquiao’s next fight in early 2016. Roach says he thought they were all good names for Pacquiao and that he thinks he’ll have no problems beating any of them.

Roach blames Pacquiao’s recent poor performance against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Pacquiao having an injured shoulder. Roach thinks that Pacquiao will be fine against whoever they pick for his next fight as long as his shoulder is 100% for the fight.

Khan still desired opponent for Pacquiao, says Arum

khan777By Chris Williams: It looks like Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) is still the leading candidate to get the fight against Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) for the Filipino fighter’s first fight back from a shoulder injury in the first quarter of next year.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum says Pacquiao is still the lead guy that he’s interested in matching against Pacquiao for this fight. However, Arum also says he’s interested in matching Pacquiao against 42-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez. You can bet that Arum would scrap the idea of matching Pacquiao against Khan if he can get Marquez to agree to another fight against the 36-year-old Pacquiao.
