Last night saw an old fashioned tare up between featherweights John Simpson (British champion) and Stephen Smith (Commonwealth champion). The fight was a close contest through the vast majority of the fight but Smith was the quickest to hit top gear. The home fighter took most of the early rounds with quick hands and decent power, wobbling the Scottish Simpson on a few occasions.

By William Mackay: If you like to watch two fighters go at it for 12 rounds without much in the way of defense then Wednesday night’s bout between British featherweight champion John Simpson (22-8, 9 KO’s) and challenger Stephen Smith (12-0, 6 KO’s) was for you. Smith, 25, won the fight by a 12 round decision at the Olympia, in Liverpool, England. The final judge’ scores were 118-112, 115-114 and 114-114.

By Nate Anderson: For the second time in a year, Commonwealth featherweight champion John Simpson (20-6, 8 KO’s) stopped Paul Truscott (13-2, 1 KO’s), this time in the 10th round on Friday night at the Eston Sports Academy, Middlesbrough, in Yorkshire. Simpson, 26, was making his Commonwealth title, which he won with an eighth round stoppage victory over Truscott in January 2009.

By Nate Anderson: Making his first defense of his Commonwealth (British Empire) featherweight title, Paul Truscott (12-1, 1 KOs) was stopped in the 8th round by challenger John Simpson (19-6, 7 KOs) of a scheduled 12-round bout at the Eston Sports Academy, Middlesbrough, in Northumbria. With Truscott trailing in the fight, the bout was stopped in the 8th round due to a cut on the right eyelid of Truscott by referee Howard John Foster, who stopped it at 0:54 of the round.
