Pacquiao-Vargas does approximately 300K PPV buys

pac836

By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s recent fight against WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-2, 10 KOs) has brought in less than monstrous pay-per-view numbers on Top Rank’s broadcast. Bob Arum, the promoter for Pacquiao and Vargas, is saying that the fight card brought in a little over 300,000 pay-per-view buys, according to RingTV. Arum is pleased with those numbers, even though they represent a drop off of approximated 100,000 buys from the 400,000 pay-per-view buys from Pacquiao’s previous fight against Tim Bradley last April on HBO PPV.

That fight was seen as a HUGE drop off in buys from the 4.6 million buys Pacquiao’s fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. generated last year in May 2015.

Vargas says Pacquiao fight was close

vargas4747

By Dam Ambrose: Former WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-2, 10 KOs) seems to be in denial about his loss to Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) last Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Vargas lost the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision, and two of the three judges had it wide in favor or Pacquiao by a 118-109 and 118-109.

One judge had an oddball score of 114-113 in favor of Pacquiao. That would be the judge that Vargas would agree with, because he felt the fight was an even one. The boxing fans weren’t booing the judges’ decision afterwards, which means they agreed with the decision.

Arum says Mayweather-Pacquiao has 75% chance of happening

Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that a fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his fighter Manny Pacquiao has a 75 percent chance of happening. Arum seems to have changed his mind about the chances of the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch happening, because just last Saturday night, he was saying that Mayweather is retired and that he wasn’t sure if a second fight could take place between the two superstars. Arum looks like he’s changed his tune for some reason.

“Floyd called us and asked for tickets,” Arum said to TMZ.com. ”It’s a great sign. I’d love for the fight to happen. I’d make it 75% that it happens.”

Arum rules out Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch

floyd863

By Dan Ambrose: If you were hoping that Manny Pacquiao’s one-sided 12 round unanimous decision win over WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas last night would lead to a rematch between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., then I have some bad news for you. It’s not happening. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum said to the media last Saturday night that as far as he’s concerned, Mayweather is retired.

Arum says that Pacquiao’s next opponent will come from this list: Terence Crawford, Vasyl Lomachenko, and possibly Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman. Arum seemed to give a hint in how he plans on attempting to match Pacquiao against next by naming Crawford first followed by Lomachenko. Both of those fighters are in Arum’s Top Rank stable. Thurman and Garcia are with another promoter.

Pacquiao has lost a step, Mayweather rematch unlikely

pac8

By Dan Ambrose: A lot of fans are excited today after learning that Floyd Mayweather Jr. came to see Manny Pacquiao’s fight last night against WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather, 39, didn’t show any signs that he was at the fight to scout out Pacquiao for a possible rematch. On the contrary, Mayweather said he was taking his daughter to the fight and nothing more than that.

Mayweather is not interested in a second fight with Pacquiao. The sooner the boxing public gets that through their minds the better it’ll be for them, because Pacquiao has clearly lost a step or two and isn’t the same fighter he was a year ago when Mayweather beat him.

Pacquiao willing to fight Crawford next at 140

pac754

By Chris Williams: After his win over WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas last Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao likely put a smile on his 84-year-old promoter Bob Arum’s face last night when he said that he would be willing to fight WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford in his next fight.

Arum has been banging the drum for a fight between Pacquiao and Crawford for the past year, and now it appears that the fight is going to happen unless a popular fighter like Floyd Mayweather Jr. steps up to the plate to take the fight against Pacquiao.

Kell Brook wants Pacquiao unification match

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-38

By Scott Gilfoid: Upon learning of the highly popular Manny Paquiao capturing the WBO welterweight title last Saturday night, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook wasted no time in requesting a unification fight with the 37-year-old newly crowned champion. Pacquiao captured the World Boxing Organization 147lb title in beating champion Jessie Vargas (27-2, 10 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision in beating him by the scores 118-109, 118-109 and 115-113.

The last score was a very unusual one, because the fight was a clear victory for Pacquiao. For the judge to have the fight scored badly in Pacquiao’s favor, it makes you wonder if he was seeing things clearly last Saturday night or maybe watching another fight.
