Image: James Toney signs with UFC!by Daniel Ciminera: News this evening, in a move which may not be much of a shock to some people, 41 year old James “Lights Out” Toney (72/6/3), has signed a “multi-fight” contract with the UFC.

Toney, who won world titles at 5 different weights in the boxing ring and has been revered as a technically brilliant, future hall of fame boxer for many years, has been looking for a couple of years to get into mixed martial arts and had previously had talks with “Strikeforce”, a competitor of UFC. However, Toney went to UFC president Dana White insisting that the fights being offered to him were beneath him, telling White, “I have a lot of pride and I’d never do anything to embarrass myself. I’m a fighter. I want to fight. Don’t ever underestimate me.”

When told that Tarver wanted to fight him, Toney said in an interview with Greg Leon, “Really? We can do this.” Toney then off the beaten track and started talking about the Klitschko brothers, David Haye, and Chris Arreola.

Toney defeats Greer, Doesn’t Look Ready for Klitschko

By Dave Lahr: Heavyweight James Toney (71-6, 44 KO’s) kept himself in the heavyweight picture with an impressive 2nd round knockout win over journeyman Matthew Greer (12-6, 11 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Pechange Resort & Casino, in Temecula, California. With Toney pounding away at Greer with body shots and short chopping punches to the head, the referee stepped in and stopped the bout in the 2nd round. The fight was mostly one-sided with Toney landing pile driving body shots again and again to the midsection of Greer.

By Jason Kim: Heavyweight James Toney (71-6-3, 43 KO’s) appears to be very serious about wanting to look good an impress tonight against heavyweight Matthew Greer (12-5, 11 KO’s) in a 10 round bout at the Pechange Resort & Casino, in Temecula, California. The 41-year-old Toney weighed in yesterday at 217.5, the lowest weight he’s been since he weighed 217 on the dot for a 9th round stoppage win over Evander Holyfield six long years ago in October 2003.
