All total, Kirkland hit the canvas three separate times in the round first and only round of the fight. Kirkland seemed to never recover from a short left hand from Ishida early in the round.

In some cases, this can be quite a long period, and in most cases, it can be very frustrating. Therefore, I feel it necessary to commend James Kirkland for taking fights so close together. First, it has to be said that safety is always an issue, and that stepping into the ring for bouts back to back as he is can pose a real danger to his well being.

By Jim Dower: Unbeaten former junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (25-0, 22 KO’s) will be fighting this Saturday night against 32-year-old Ahsanti Gibbs (10-2, 4 KO’s) in a scheduled eight round bout on the undercard of the Saul Alvarez vs. Matthew Hatton bout at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. Although the fight is technically scheduled for eight rounds, look for it to last two or three rounds at the most unless Kirkland decides to carry Gibbs for the full eight.

Kirkland, 26, was recently released from a Texas prison where he had been held for a weapons violation from April 2009 until recently.

After serving a year in prison in Austin, Texas, on weapons charges, Kirkland was recently released from prison and was training for his December 11th bout against Delray Raines (18-8 -1, 13 KO’s) at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kirkland, 26, wasn’t at the gym wasn’t at the gym, where he was supposed to be, when his probation officer came looking for him, and that led to Kirkland having to do an extra week in jail. Kirland was at the dentist office for an hour getting his mouthpiece fit for him by his dentist.
