By Jim Dower: Unbeaten World Boxing Council World bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka (26-0-2, 18 KOs) retained his WBC 118lb title on Friday night by stopping 31-year-old former WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (36-5-1, 12 KOs) in the 7th round at the Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan.

Yamanaka, 33, knocked the 31-year-old Moreno down four times in the fight before it was finally halted in the 7th round by referee Daniel Van de Wiele. The official time of the stoppage was at 1:09 of the 7th.

Kiko Martinez stops Hasegawa

hasegawa55By Allan Fox: IBF super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (31-4, 23 KO’s) successfully defended his title by stopping former WBC bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa (33-5, 15 KO’s) in the 7th round on Wednesday night at the Castle Hall, in Osaka, Osaka, Japan. Martinez, 28, knocked the 33-year-old Hasegawa down three times in the fight.

The fight was halted at 1:20 of the 7th round by referee Robert Byrd after Martinez knocked Hasegawa down twice in the round. Martinez had also knocked Hasegawa down in the 2nd round from a big left hook to the head. At the time of the stoppage, Hasegawa was bleeding from his nose and was cut over his left eye. He also had swelling around his right eye.

The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 117-111, all for Yamanaka.

Jhonny Gonzalez to challenge Hozumi Hasegawa for WBC featherweight title

By Dan Ambrose: Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (47-7, 41 KO’s) is looking to challenge WBC featherweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa (29-3, 12 KO”s) next. According to fightnews, a purse auction will take place this Friday for the two fighters at the WBC headquarters in Mexico City. The bout could take place in Mexico, but it’s still up in there air right now in terms of where they want to put this fight.
