Image: Rigondeaux to fight on Donaire-Arce undercard on December 15thBy Chris Williams: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) may be having little luck in getting a fight against WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire despite being with the same promotional company Top Rank, but Rigondeaux will at least have the opportunity to fight on the undercard of Donaire’s mismatch against Jorge Arce on December 15th at a still to be determined venue, according to Dan Rafael.

He says that Bob Arum of Top Rank said he’s in the process of finalizing the Arce-Donaire fight and that Rigondeaux will be on the undercard. This will be a good thing if Arum finds Rigondeaux a good opponent that’s well known.

Rigondeaux: Donaire showed that he’s afraid of me last Saturday

Image: Rigondeaux: Donaire showed that he's afraid of me last SaturdayBy Chris Williams: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux believes that WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) exposed himself last Saturday night when he was being interviewed by HBO’s Max Kellerman, who asked Donaire why he won’t fight Rigondeaux.

Donaire basically said that Rigondeaux needed to show him more for him to be excited about fighting him. Donaire inferred that Rigondeaux needs more experience at the pro level.

Garcia: Rigondeaux has to earn his way to a shot against Donaire

Image: Garcia: Rigondeaux has to earn his way to a shot against DonaireBy Dan Ambrose: Robert Garcia, the trainer for IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s), doesn’t believe that WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) has earned his way to a unification bout against Donaire due to the level of competition he’s been facing thus far.

Garcia said to Chris Robinson at CRHarmony “I have no doubt that Nonito Donaire can beat Rigondeaux; it could even be an easy fight. But he [Rigondeaux] can’t win the spot by beating someone like [Robert] Marroquin. He’s got to win the spot by beating names like Nonito has been doing.”

Donaire: Rigondeaux needs more experience for me to fight him

Image: Donaire: Rigondeaux needs more experience for me to fight himBy Chris Williams: IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) pretty much told the boxing world last night that he’s not going to be fighting WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux any time soon, if ever, after Donaire defeated a faded 36-year-old Toshiaki Nishioka (39-5-3, 24 KO’s) by a 9th round TKO at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California.

Nishioka was the fighter that Donaire had been saying was the best super bantamweight in the division, and after the fight Donaire was sticking to that believe despite Nishioka only averaging a little over 20 punches thrown per round in a textbook example of a fighter not really trying to win.

Rigondeaux extends contract with Top Rank

Image: Rigondeaux extends contract with Top RankBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) has reportedly extended his contract with Top Rank, which had previously run out recently. According to RingTV, the 32-year-old Rigondeaux has signed a multi-fight deal with Top Rank. It’s unclear how long the contract is or if it’s just for three fights.

Golden Boy Promotions supposedly offered a bigger deal with for Rigondeaux in terms of money, but for some reason Rigondeaux opted to stay with Top Rank. It’s likely that he resigned because of the potential to get a big money fight against IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, who is easily the biggest money maker in the super bantamweight division.

Donaire: Nishioka is more dangerous than Rigondeaux

Image: Donaire: Nishioka is more dangerous than RigondeauxBy Chris Williams: IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s) is convinced that his opponent this Saturday 36-year-old former super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) is the most dangerous fighter at super bantamweight, even better than WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux. I’m pretty sure boxing fans aren’t buying this, because Nishioka has looked awful recently, more like a fading contender than a former champion.

Donaire told Fighthub.tv “I think the most dangerous guy is right behind me, Nishioka. He has more power and he knows how to fight. He’s been in the game a long time and he’s a very dangerous guy.”

Rigondeaux defeats Marroquin but shows vulnerability

Image: Rigondeaux defeats Marroquin but shows vulnerabilityBy Chris Williams: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) rather easily took care of 23-year-old fringe contender Robert Marroquin (22-2, 15 KO’s) in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The final judges’ scores were 118-108, 118-108 and 118-108.

Rigondeaux vs. Marroquin on Saturday

Image: Rigondeaux vs. Marroquin on SaturdayBy Allan Fox: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (10-0, 8 KO’s) will be seeing what he can do against highly thought of Top Rank prospect Robert Marroquin (22-1, 15 KO’s) on Saturday night on the undercard of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This fight is going to be seen by millions of boxing fans giving the 31-year-old Rigondeaux a great chance of winning over countless fans if he can beat Marroquin as impressively as he’s beaten his last three opponents Willie Casey, Rico Ramos and Teon Kennedy. Marroquin, 22, is in the same class as those guys, maybe a little worse. But Rigondeaux needs to adapt to whatever Marroquin brings to the ring in this fight and quickly look to take him out as fast as possible to look good.

Rigondeaux-Marroquin fight back on the Chavez Jr. vs Martinez PPV card this Saturday

Image: Rigondeaux-Marroquin fight back on the Chavez Jr. vs Martinez PPV card this SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (10-0, 8 KO’s) will be getting a nice little payday this Saturday night when he takes on fringe Top Rank contender Robert Marroquin (22-1, 15 KO’s) in what should be an incredibly easy title defense on the undercard of the $49.99 pay per view card headed by WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rigondeaux’s manager Gary Hyde reportedly worked out a deal with Top Rank so that the Rigondeaux-Marroquin fight can take place on the Chavez Jr-Martinez card. The fight itself is kind of a nothing fight, but this is the guy that Top Rank wants Rigondeaux to fight for some odd reason. Marroquin is one of their Top Rank fighters, and you have to imagine it’s a big gamble on their part to where they’re likely hoping that Marroquin can put in a good showing in losing to Rigondeaux.
